    The Maintenance Thread

This is a great bit of head work that you’ve done though and you’ll be so much better for having “been there, done that” Okay, so my big desire and focus in life is travel. I don’t even mean big travel— I get Uber psyched and excited to plan a single-night getaway 90 miles away. I find myself planning the next trip as soon as I get back from the current one. We are taking a beach vacay in June and I’ve finally narrowed my search down to 5 places, lol. Oh it will be so much fun to finish planning that. I also love home projects. Even if it’s something silly like finding a vase at a consignment store and then making up a floral arrangement, I love it Very soon we will be doing some remodeling around the house and I’ll be in heaven for months planning it and designing everything to the most particular detail. Poor hubs.... all of my free time will be spent poring over home design websites and dragging him to stores.

Yes! Lol, I LOVE that I no longer have boobs to speak of, but I think curves and boobs are very sexy. Weird, right?
  3. Interesting convo with my NUT yesterday. I weighed in at the office at 138.8 (forgot to weigh at home, but later in the day and with clothes on it’s about a 1.5-2 pound difference) My NUT is an athlete and she’s quite trim and fit. Here are the takeaways from my convo with her. 1. She doesn’t think I’m in any way underweight. In fact, she told me it’s probable I could lose another few pounds and not to panic if that happens. 2. She still wants me under 40gm carbs (total, not just net) daily. Any extra calories she wants coming from fats 3. Speaking of calories, she says it’s not uncommon at all to still be under 1,000 daily at a year out. She told me to try to at least get in 800, but that if I wasn’t hungry and was getting my protein In, then don’t sweat it. 4. Re IF: she’s not a proponent of IF, but she’s not against it either. Again, as long as I can get in 800 calories and at least 65gm protein and 96oz water, then she said I can eat in whatever interval works best for me. It was a good appointment and I really needed to hear those things.

Okay so all of your outfits are amazing, but this just really looks AH-MAY-ZING! Nice curves and you can just see that you’re so happy with the new you. It does suck that people treat us so differently as thin vs heavier. Nowadays, I almost want to confront people who are sooooo much nicer and more accepting of me now. I don’t because it would only send out negative energy vibes and I’m trying my best to avoid that head space, but sometimes I’ll be out and people are all super smiley and friendly and it makes me wish that I could look like I did a year ago for just 5 minutes just to see how they’d react. Hubs and I went out of town yesterday for a nice getaway at a hotel and spa and everyone was just as nice as could be. I got offered a free room upgrade and the wait staff at the spa bent over backward making sure we didn’t need anything while we were there. At dinner I got a funny look from the waiter when I didn’t order an entree, but I get less of those funny looks as I’m at this weight. People now expect someone my size NOT to eat all that much I guess 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️
  5. My therapist actually doesn’t want me logging anything and she doesn’t think it’s a good idea to weigh myself. Her opinion is that counting calories and macros and weighing didn’t prevent me from becoming MO to start with, and it won’t do me much good now that I’m in maintenance. She also wants me to try to get in touch with more of my feelings than with scientific data. I have a science brain and love to crunch numbers, which she thinks isn’t the best for me ATM. I’m still unsure of that advice, TBH She wants me to not log food and not weigh for 2 weeks and use how my body feels as a guide. I get where she’s coming from, but she’s managed to maintain her size within 5-10 pounds for the last 28 years post WLS. As far as my physique, she’s more along the lines of the weight loss clinic, which is there’s a lot of wiggle room and that I could lose 10 more pounds and be fine, or gain 10-15 and still be fine. Her theory is that many times our bodies will naturally reset to a weight that we spent the most time in before MO started For me, that weight would be in the 125-128 range as I was there during most of my 20’s until I got pregnant. Since I did spend at least a decade of my life “underweight” she thinks my body is trying it’s best to get there again. My cancer situation was unlucky/lucky. Since I had TNBC, it was auto stage 3 with a 50% five year survival rate, but I don’t have to take the endocrine disrupters. And now that I’m 10 years out, my risk factors for recurrence are at zero.

    Food Before and After Photos

I go with cab sav because I like it AND it’s typically lowest sugar.
  7. I hear ya on adding fats. Some days I eat an astounding % from fats —like over 50%. Problem is that fats are such an appetite suppressant for me that I have to be careful or I don’t meet protein goals.
  8. I get that. I truly do. Anyone who knows me knows that I’ve always been an extremely goal-oriented person and I will drive myself relentlessly to meet challenges. If I’m not focused on a goal or on a project I get restless, anxious and cranky. This is probably getting into the headwork topic, but I have been working with a therapist on this since a couple of months prior to surgery and we’ve been working on recognizing when these behaviors start to send me into a spiral. So the good news is that later this year, hubs and I are going to be doing some remodeling around the house. Once I start to go down the Houzz, HGTV, and better homes and garden rabbit hole, I’ll not be as focused on diet and exercise. 🤣🤣🤣 Seriously though, I’m keeping journals and through that it’s how I actually identified that when I IF, I’m more secure than when I don’t. Time will tell if that turns into an actual problem or not, but I’m prepared to do the headwork and face it if/when it becomes necessary n

Lol, I’m skipping any candy and going for 2 glasses red wine. 🍷
  11. Honestly my sleeve is still fairly tight even after a year PO When I’m eating how I prefer (low carb, high protein, >80oz water daily) it’s freaking hard to get in over 900 calories. About the only way to get in >1100 calories is to expand my eating window to >12 hours and pack in some extra carbs. Which lead to sugar cravings Which leads to me feeling bloated and yucky and completely unmotivated to exercise, work, be productive, be intimate with hubs. A couple of times, I’ve had a very noticeable increase in anxiety and depression after just 3 days without IF. At first, I was utilizing IF as a way to survive. If I tried to eat much before noon I’d have stomach cramps, nausea, feel sick and bloated, and not drink. Pushing my water to the early part of the day and eating later made all the difference in the world and allowed me to enjoy—rather than endure—this process. Sleeve gets tighter the longer it goes without food, but usually by 16-18 hours I’ve got enough of an appetite to get in 3/4-1 cup of food.
  12. Lol, I keep having this same problem. TBH, I love IF so much that I’m almost to the point where I’m willing to risk dropping a few more pounds just to keep the IF lifestyle. I’ve found that I’m more anxious and grumpy when I have a larger eating window, and I’m toying around with the idea of saying, “screw it, let’s see where this leads!” The whole point of this process was for me to start living my best life possible, and when I started this journey, I had never heard of IF, let alone try it. It was only after surgery that I found this thread, started reading, then watched all of Dr Fungs videos, then read his books, etc.... Discovering IF was a huge “A HA” in my life and when I don’t have IF days, I don’t like it. I feel lazy, unmotivated, and blah. So if I truly want to lead my best life, that’s gonna include way more days with IF than without. Eventually my body will let me eat more once I break fast, no?

Good morning lovelies! I’m sooooo psyched to be off work today and to be heading to the studio in a few minutes.
  14. True. If I don’t get at least 7 hrs sleep, I’m going to feel like crap and need to break my fast earlier. Which sucks bc getting enough sleep sometimes is nearly impossible

    The Maintenance Thread

Love everything about this! One thing that worries me is that now that I’ve almost entirely stopped losing (and yes.... that’s a GOOD thing) I’m going to need other goals to reach, cause the scale dropping more pounds is neither realistic nor adviseable. This is why I’m starting to focus more on body composition, rather than the number on the scale. The “high” from the weight loss is over, so that MUST be replaced with something else. This is why I’ve got a session with my NUT planned on February 12th so we can work together to get my macros to a “maintenance” place that involves me working toward building up more muscle and endurance (she’s a serious runner so I’ll be interested in her thoughts on how many/what types of carbs I might need) I too realize I’m 2-3 weeks of reckless abandon away from sliding down a dark hole of indulgence that will lead to depression, self-hate, and many of those other things that led me to MO to start with. Sadly the surgery could only slice out part of my stomach, it couldn’t slice out the part of my brain that’s still “fat”. Speaking of triggers, any carb for me in a way is a trigger. Some, obviously are worse than others, but this is why it’s been so darn difficult for me to re-introduce them back into my diet. Hell, I even had an incident a week or so ago with salad. Freaking salad set me off for some reason. This really is a huge mind f**k, but I’m glad we have each other to learn from and to lean on.
  16. That usually happens to me after 18 hours, which is why I don’t do many >20 hr fasts.

    🎈 Pity Party🎈

Thanks so much! Those kind words have totally made my day. The timing will depend both on when I can get the funds saved, and how much time I will need off, which will ultimately depend on which procedure I choose. It’s almost impossible to take any time off in the winter months, but with LOA I could probably swing it. Fingers crossed that I’ll be able to have it done early January 2021. Lots of floaters are looking for hours, bc nobody wants to take vacay in January so I’m betting I’d have an easier time asking for time off then.
  22. Okay so fasting update: Monday thru Tuesday was my 18 hr fast, but both Monday and Tuesday were low cal days. Looks like I got in 500-ish Monday and 750-ish Tuesday. Yesterday I felt like eating every 3-4 hours, and I did. Oddly enough, I was also craving alcohol, but didn’t have any cuz i do 5:2 most weeks and it wasn’t the weekend. Trying to figure out where my intense wine craving from yesterday came from. Even though I ate every 3-4 hours, my “feasting” was moderate. I supplemented with extra protein shake and had an extra serving of veggies and hummus for an afternoon snack. The wine craving was so bad last night that I broke down at 9pm and made myself a chai latte with a dollop of whipped cream on top (only 100 calories, but it shocked me how much I “needed” it)
  23. Lol, Fluffy. How many times per hour do you have to dash to the restroom? I think I’d have to pee 2x/ hour. You’re awesome. Seriously though, fasting days= frequent hourly trips to the bathroom once my body realizes no calories are coming and it has to start dumping glycogen
