  1. Surgery: VSG (just a little over 5 months post op, still losing...)

    Starting weight: 146.4

Goals: Get to 135 lbs (which would mean a 100 lbs loss for me since October!) && increase strength training time/amount. Right now I do maybe 20-30 mins twice a week, I want to do more.

#1 Something I'm proud of today: I am getting so much better at remembering the steps in Zumba. I didn't feel as stupid as I normally do this morning at class.

So not really a victory BUT I had to put on a wetsuit yesterday and I was not embarrassed. we swam with the manatees!

omg i'm so looking forward to putting on a wetsuit and not having to choose from the men's selection because none of the womens' sizes fit me before.

Well, my 5 month update (I'm really only 5 months out because I was sleeved on 10/29). I'm down 103 total, 96 since pre-op diet, 82 since surgery (appx 68% EWL since surgery). I'd take it all back if I could. I had a great first 3 months - got my protein/liquids in from around day 3, could eat most anything I tried. Now I'm sick as a f'ing dog. Luckily, I'm at least a bit better than I was at the end of February, when I cried every day from the reflux and overwhelming nausea. Doc changed my meds a bit, so the reflux is manageable and I am not nauseous all the time, just when I eat. I can eat FAR less now than I could even a month after surgery. And I can't tolerate Protein drinks. So, I'm now getting about half the Protein I'm supposed to (and that's with drinking 2 glasses of milk a day) and struggling to get my liquids. I did this to improve my quality of life, and it has deteriorated rapidly. Doc doesn't seem to know what is going on, and is just suggesting converting to bypass to fix the reflux. But he admits that might not fix the nausea/inability to eat. So, his answer is to further reduce the size of my stomach and rearrange my intestines, which will cause more malnutrition, when he's so concerned about my lack of nutrition that he's considering putting me on a PICC line? Um, no thanks. Not untill he figures out why the hell I'm so f'ing sick.

I see him again on Friday, so I hope we can get answers. Because at this point, I'm a little scared of what my life is becoming. I'm supposed to be creating healthy eating habits, but I can barely eat anything. So I feel like I'm creating super unhealthy eating habits, just the opposite of the ones I had before.

Im sorry you are having a crappy time. Did you consider maybe seeing another Dr/getting a second, third, fourth opinion?

My 6 month is 4/25 and I’m down 76 pounds since surgery almost ONEDERLAND. I’m averaging about 12-13 per month and I not been exercising sometimes my energy level is next to nothing. I know because I’m not getting my Water or meeting calories. I will start exercising this week to meet my 6 month goal at end of month to be low 190s. I’ve lost 10 pounds since last photo

March 1st starting weight: 158.1 lbs, 4 months post surgery, still losing...

Goal for this month : get into the 140's

I didn't do the daily participation this month, but I DID read it almost every day and kept up with everyones updates. Despite my non-posting, I did complete the "No Junk Food" challenge (its really my natural state anyway). And I did get into the 140's...I finished off March at 146.9 lbs, (a loss of 11.2 lbs for march :99_muscle:)

so 11 more lbs to go! I just scheduled a Tummy Tuck and breast lift for July so that is motivating me to lose the last 11lbs.

So exciting! 11 lbs is not far to go. I'm about 26lbs to goal and and started looking at PS options...I can't decide what to do first...how did you decide?

Tomorrow is 6 months for me! I’m really happy overall but my hair has started to fall out 😫 anyone have any recommendations on making it stop? I’ve added Biotin to my daily Vitamins.

Other than that, I started at 256 and am down to 180! I haven’t had as much time to exercise lately so I’m stalled, but I’m motivated to start up again!

You are only 5 lbs to goal!! (at least what's stated on the sidebar)...that must feel amazing 😁 My hair had started to shed around month 3...so I chopped it all off and it looks less thin now...hopefully it starts to come back soon...

  8. Okay, October sleevers, its April 1st tomorrow and that means we will all be hitting our 6 month marks over the next 30-31 days. Would love to hear/read about everyone's progress and updates as we all reach our 6-month-surgiverssaries (yes, i know that's not a real word, so I don't know how to spell it!).

Hope to hear from everyone :) (even its its just to say hey whats up...)

I haven't lost much yet - and was feeling a little discouraged, truth be told. But I had a couple of NSVs today that cheered me up.

First, I am very short (5ft) and have a top loading washing machine. I would have trouble reaching down to the bottom to empty it, and it would hurt my upper belly where the metal would be digging into me trying to reach down. Well today, I was not only able to reach the bottom, but could do it without impaling myself on the lip of the tub.

And I went to get my hair trimmed - first time since surgery. One of the places where I have noticeably lost weight is my face - I had no neck, just a massive wobbly double chin that looked like a goiter. Now it's disappearing. Before when I got my hair cut, I would be too embarrassed to look in the mirror - hating my fat, round face. Today I watched in the mirror and actually smiled at myself and didn't feel self-conscious or embarrassed.

    Love these ❤️

I will add - one problem I've found is that I'm losing a LOT faster in the hips/legs than in the waist. So a lot of my old smaller clothes just don't fit correctly. They fit in the waist and are unbearably baggy in the butt/legs. So, I'm just getting used to that. I think I still have a plus-sized waist, but normal sized legs.

I'm the opposite, old pants/jeans fit my hips and legs, but they gape at the waist, especially at the back...if you stand behind me you can look down my jeans when I'm not wearing a belt. It doesn't help that my butt has deflated considerably 🙄.

WLS wish: that we could choose where the weight came off from. 🙏

  11. Wow, being discussed so thoroughly seems oddly unsettling (?)

@SteveT74, thanks for taking the time to write all this, I can tell you have put a lot of thought and research into your posts. As someone who to tends to lose hours reading about subjects that interest me as well as take pride in composing a well thought out essay/email/argument/post-it note, I can appreciate your efforts.

To be clear, both my nutritionist and surgeon (and while i'm at it my PCP) are satisfied with my progress so far (despite my NUT preferring that I up my calories). I'm sure they think I could be doing even better, like more calories, more exercise, more sleep, less salt, less special-occasion alcohol, less Perrier (my nemesis!) etc, but for now they are cool with what I'm doing. Come three months from now, they may advise me differently, and thats cool too...I could very well be in a different position to better address that, then.

I just hope I don't chicken (Yes I like chicken in my Caesar Salad) out.

I'm nearing 50 (turning 47 this year), and I chickened out TWICE in the year and a half before I finally went through with it last fall. The "chickening" is probably one of my bigger regrets. It really served no purpose other than to allow me to gain another 15 lbs during that time, and to further delay getting to where needed to be.

    Good Luck!

  13. Like others have stated above, everyone will have a different recipe for what works for them. What works for one, may not work for the other. With that said, I watch/track calories and carbs (and Protein, fibre, fat).

These were two goals my nutritionist set for me, which I consider my primary daily goals (I don't always meet them, but I do the majority of the time):

    • 70g protein
    • minimum 2.5L Water, the more the better.

The next two I set for myself:

    • Net carbs under 20g.
    • Fat, I put a limit of 20-30g (but this is the most flexible macro I watch/track). I have noticed that if I take in more fat over consecutive days, my bathroom regularity improves.

I end up averaging about 500 cals a day*.

    * I know this sounds like a small amount of cals, but I don't feel deprived nor starving...primarily due to the restriction of my sleeve (sometimes I think my surgeon may not have meant to make it this size, but whatevs, I'll take it). I am physically satisfied with the amounts I eat at meals. My nutritionist last month said she would like to see me take in more calories, but not to force it, if I can't. I'm sure I could choose more fatty, high-carb foods to do this, but honestly, I don't want to. In any case, both she and my surgeon were satisfied with my progress.

    P.S. I am also only 5'1".

  14. I've slowing been going through my "skinnier clothes" that I've kept over the years (in case I lost weight of course!), and piling up the clothes I'm sizing out off on one side of my closet. I'm planning to sell the good items to a thrift shop, and the not-so-good ones are going into the donation bin. I don't want to keep them if only as a symbolic gesture that I will never need them ever again.

As for going through my skinny clothes, they are depleting and there are only size 6's left in my stash, which I can't fit into comfortably yet.

I haven't done any major shopping, just underwear and bras, and SOCKS.

However, I do plan on doing some serious shopping soon as I need some summer clothes and some new shoes (my feet have shrunk 1.5 sizes!)...kinda excited :)
