Six months post-op+ : The Sophomores Thread
I’m 6 months out and also stalled for a month. I started a 30 day yoga program at home using my amazon prime membership (lots of free yoga instruction on there!). After two weeks of doing yoga 4-5 days a week I dropped 4 pounds and I lost another 2 last week. It’s pretty hard and I’m sore a lot! I also notice I can eat a bit more than I could but my hunger is at least in control for the moment. I try to stay around 1000 calories a day. Dr says I should hit 1200. I do about once a week. This is hard work people! Sending some support your way!

December 2018 Sleevers!
Had my 6 month post-op appointment on 6/13. I’m down 72 pounds and in ONEDERLAND!! Off my BP and cholesterol meds. Still would like to lose another 35-40 pounds but the loss rate has definitely slowed. About a pound a week for the last few weeks. I can eat more, but trying to stay around 1000 calories a day. I get hungry but can also go long periods of time without eating. Overall I’m really pleased with the surgery. It has made the process easier. Hopefully I can keep it off once I reach goal.

Anyone else hiccup when they are full?
Hiccups is my trigger as well. And they go away very quickly. It’s really odd but I don’t mind it.

The Maintenance Thread
MS- when my dr wanted me to up my calorie intake, she suggested eating a handful of nuts. Very caloric and good fats! I can easily add 200 calories without getting really full feeling.

Loose Skin, Saggy Breasts and Hair loss...OH MY!?
I’m 52 years old and was totally freaked with the idea of losing hair. My dr said if I got 100 g of protein daily I wouldn’t lose my hair. I did on most days and he was right. Didn’t lose any hair! Unfortunately I already had saggy boobs and that has not improved. The rest of my body is ok though. Not too saggy. I started yoga, light weight work and lots of walking. I’ve been pleased with the progress thus far. Just wish I’d done it years ago!

DDP Yoga
I just ordered a yoga mat and it is being delivered today. I was just going to watch yoga classes I can get free through Prime. What is so much better about this yoga?

7 Days Post Op - Ate Cottage Cheese
Had surgery on 12/14/18. Almost 6 months post op. I didnt even know I set up a profile as I use Tapatalk. I don’t usually bother with that kind of stuff.

7 Days Post Op - Ate Cottage Cheese
I was allowed cottage cheese at 1 week. It was fine.

Top Recommendation from VGS people 6mos out or more
My dr promised that if I got 100 grams of protein a day I would not lose my hair. From day 2 after surgery I strived for that. I wasn’t able to do it every day early on (first week) but at least got 80 a day. After that, I reach 100 everyday. I’m almost 6 months out and have not lost any hair! After my 3 month follow up appt, dr said I could go to 80 G protein daily. I’ve been so thankful to not lose my hair. It’s pretty fine to begin with.

Vegas Vacation After VSG Food and Alcohol Thoughts
I couldn’t really drink a whole drink until 5 months. Now I can tolerate a few glasses of wine or a vodka and water with crystal light added. 2 is my limit. After that is just makes my stomach hurt and gives me a headache.

Eating Salad
I can eat salad with no problem. I tried it for the first time at about 6 weeks. I don’t eat it often though. It’s too filling and I can’t get my protein in.

Vegas Vacation After VSG Food and Alcohol Thoughts
I just went this month when I was 5 months post op. It is very easy to get lots of protein and water in. There is a CVS or Walgreens on every corner and tons of health food options. I also took powdered protein and mixed it with steamed milk from Starbucks for my morning “coffee.” I drank some wine but probably not more than 2-3 per day. I actually lost 4 lbs as we averaged 9 miles a day walking!

Cigna- Requirements and Timeline
I have Cigna and I was under the impression that the DS surgery is not covered by Cigna at this time (or wasn’t last year when I had the sleeve).

HELP I'm so stressed and I SMOKE
I took Chantix about 10 years ago. It made me nauseated as hell but I kept on taking it. Now, if I even think about cigs I remember that nauseated feeling and all cravings disappear!

Feeling Hopless...:(
Maybe you need to up your calories? My dr keeps telling me to get more calories but I just can’t seem to get over 900-1000. She wants me to get at least 1200-1300. I’m almost 6 months out and the weight loss is slowing but not yet stalled. I’ve been losing about 2 lbs a week for the last month or two. Better than nothing though!

Alternative Pasta
My favorite is Cali’flour Foods Califlower and Yellow Lentil Pasta. Bought it on Amazon. It only comes in a penne but the taste and texture is most like real pasta.

Gastric sleeve revision
Before you get a revision, try doing intermittent fasting. A friend that had the sleeve that wasn’t really successful has started IF with great results! She said it wasn’t that hard, especially with the restriction from the sleeve.

Cocktails & Wine
My dr recommended 3 months but basically said I could do what I wanted after 6 weeks. I waited three months and half a glass of wine and couldn’t drink anymore. It felt really weird going down and I didn’t care for the sensation. I’m 6 months out now and. Can tolerate wine (2 glass limit). I’ve tried some vodka drinks but they are hard because all the mixers I like are either carbonated or have too much sugar. One dirty martini gets me fairly buzzed but I’ve noticed that it goes away fairly quickly. It’s pretty weird. I have the sleeve, not bypass.

Protein shakes and bars forever?
Not for my program. My dr wants me to eat as much real food as possible and only use protein drinks/bars if I can’t reach goal. By 6 weeks I was cleared for all real food as tolerable.

Overeaters Anonymous - Should I go??
Well I’m not a food addict either. I’ve lost over 60 lbs and still have all my hair. I never go over my set calories or macros. It just takes me all day long to get it in. It’s a struggle to eat this much honestly but it is working. I’m not flabby either, my skin is going back into place (other than boobs but they were drooping before I gained weight). And I’m 51 yo. So I’m pretty pleased. Other than at week 2 I’ve not stalled at all. If this stops working then I’ll try something else. She is a doctor and has also had the surgery , successfully, so I think I’ll stick to her plan as long as it’s working.

Overeaters Anonymous - Should I go??
I talked to my dr about snacking because she wants me to increase my calories. She said to figure out everything I need to eat in a day to get the required calories/protein/water, etc and eat on it all day if I have to. If my lunch takes 2 hours to eat then so be it. She doesn’t believe it is “snacking”. I’m just eating what I’m required to eat for the day.

(ms.sss) 6 Month Post-op Update
That’s awesome. I’m four months out and have only lost 60 so I don’t think I’ll lose as much as you at 6 months. Congrats! When did your hair start coming out? I haven’t had that. My dr promised me that if I got 100 grams of protein a day I wouldn’t lose it and I was pretty faithful to that. After my 3 month appt they said I could back it down to 80. I also don’t exercise as much as you. That is something I definitely need to step up. Thanks for the inspiration!

ugggg cant get below 155
I have a friend that had the same thing happen about a year out from the sleeve surgery. She started doing IF with carb cycling and has great success. I plan on doing the same when I’m further out. I’m at 4 months post op now.

Tortillas and chips?
I’ve taken my own Quest chips into a Mexican restaurant and eaten them with the cheese dip. I don’t think anybody really noticed. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
