  1. I agree with both posters. You can add healthy, more exciting food options, and get therapy. Both would be good. Does your dr have a WLS support group? Also, join a gym and get a trainer. Even though you say you don’t stick with it, it wouldn’t hurt to at least try. You may find you can replace an unhealthy addiction (food) with a healthier one(exercise).

  2. My husband was much the same way when I first broached the subject. He went to an informational meeting with me and to my dr appt and asked LOTS of questions. After that, he was very supportive and remains so a year later. I’ve lost 106 lbs, am off all my medication and truly feel like I have my life back. My husband said the other night that he loves me at any weight but he feels like I’m much happier and that makes him happy. Yep, he’s a keeper!

    Could I have lost it on my own? Maybe. But I don’t think I would have stuck with it long enough. I had real hunger and now I have little/controlled hunger. And I’m keeping up my exercise whereas before I would get frustrated and quit.

  3. So. I'm only almost four days out and I'm already wondering about plastics. Are they pretty much inevitable? Is there anything that can be done to prevent them? Special toning exercises, etc? Just curious...


    My best advice would be to exercise as soon as you can, adding in toning and strengthening. Building muscle while losing fat will help. It’s not going to totally prevent it, but it helps.

  4. I was 120 overweight and I’ve lost 104. Mostly, my general aches and pains are gone but the arthritis is my hip seems to be back and slightly worse. Could just be aging though.

    I have so much more energy and can walk, and jog, long distances where I just couldn’t before. I would get too winded and overheated.

    I’ve really not had a single regret.

  6. There are scales you can buy that will tell you approximately what your “maintenance” calories are, or your dr office should be able to tell you. For instance, I’m 5’8 and mine is 1530. I never eat that many calories and still have 16 pounds to my goal weight. My surgery was 13 months ago. I average 1200 calories a day and I lose about 2 pounds every 3-4 weeks. The weight loss has tapered off, but I’ve never gained.

  7. I’m 10 months out and have lost 90 lbs. plan on losing 20 more. While on liquids and soft foods I didn’t think my restriction was very good but once I started eating regular food it really kicked in. I still get hungry, some days more than others, but I get full very quickly. You just have to be careful because there are ways to “eat around” the restriction and you can still over eat if you are eating the wrong foods. I’ve not had any regrets thus far!

  8. Some of you skinny minnies need to check out these....reminds me of my clothes back in the late 60's/early 70's. I had a couple of pairs from Peter Max that I loved so much. The goal was for your shoes not to show at all[emoji41][emoji12]

  10. I think you’re fine. I had no issues post-op either. You’ll start to feel the restriction when you eat solid food. The liquid and puréed stage isn’t going to make you feel very full, but don’t over do it. Measure everything and be sure to get your in Protein and Water.

    Gas pain can last up to two weeks, everybody is different. You should feel some relief after your first bowel movement.

  11. Talk to your team. It happened to me at about 5/6 months out. Dr told me to up my calories to 1200. I was averaging 800-1000. After that I tried to hit at least 1000 every day and started yoga. Lost 2 pounds a week later and am still averaging 2 a week.

    Last week I tried intermittent fasting and lost 5 pounds! You may want to look into that too. I’m just not sure it’s sustainable for me.

  12. Because my surgery was before Christmas I ended up going out almost immediately - after a week. I usually had something at home before I went and just had water/ tea or a cup of Soup. After 2 weeks I would get a baked sweet potato. Sometimes I would just order something I knew my husband would like and he could he eat it the next day.

  13. You should have an endoscopy before you’re approved and that will show whether there are indications that you may develop GERD. Of course, there is always a chance of it but if you have no indications now, I’d say the chances are lower.

    Since spicy foods already give you heartburn, I would stay away from them post-op. I loved spicy food before but really can’t tolerate it anymore.

  14. I'm a HUGE, HUGE, HUGE University of Kentucky fan! I live in Louisville, KY. My husband played football for UK. I'm a basketball fanatic.

    We are very close- I live in between Lex and L-Ville.

    Can you give an example of your daily diet? Are you getting bored with it? I’ve been thinking of trying something else as my weight loss is slowing. I’m averaging 1-2 pounds per week now. Was thinking about IF but I get pretty hangry if I go too long without eating.

  15. My dr doesn’t do bypass anymore so sleeve was only option. I was only uncomfortable the first day. I wouldn’t even call it pain. Only took what pain med they gave me in the hospital. Took Tylenol once home. I’ve had two previous surgeries (gall bladder and hysterectomy) and this was easiest by far.

    I still had hunger for the first few weeks until I started on more dense food. Then the restriction really kicked in and I don’t really get too hungry anymore. I’m almost 7 months out and I’ve lost 75 lbs. I’m very pleased overall.

  16. When chia seeds get wet, they expand and are not crunchy. If you put them in yogurt overnight and eat the next day they will be soft. Look at receipts on Pinterest for over night oats. You can follow some of those just leave out the oats if you don’t eat them.
