My journey started in 2008, I was about 130 pound over weight for my age and body size, I was on blood pressure, thyroid, cholesterol and Hormone replacement medicine.  Both of my parents had had three heart attacks a piece and both had type 2 diabetes.  I decided to that I didn't want to live like that.  I started looking into the Lap Band and found out that my insurance would help pay for it.  I ended up having to prove that I had tried different things to loose weight including doctor recommended programs.  The insurance approved me after I proved to them I had tried to loose weight other ways and we scheduled a lap band procedure.  I lost about 50 pounds and things went really well for about 2 years and then the band slipped and I ended up having to get the fluid removed. The Doctor that performed the procedure ended up leaving the practice and I didn't care for the Doctor that took his place and ended up having to find another Doctor.  It took me 5 year and gaining 70 pounds  before I decided I had to do something else.  I found a doctor but he thought there was too many problems with the band and so he wouldn't fill it.  He gave me the choice of Gastric Bypass and the Sleeve.  I chose the bypass as it kept my stomach in place even if it really wasn't doing anything.  I ended up getting approved right away and the surgery was scheduled 3 months later.  During the surgery they removed the port and band, repaired my esophagus from the damage that the band had caused, they removed my gall bladder and did the gastric bypass.  The surgery was about 8 hours long but they did a lot of stuff. I ended up having a few problems and hyperaged but after three days in ICU I began a very exciting journey.     I have done really well, I was taken off the blood pressure and cholesterol medicine even before I got out of the hospital and have not been put back on them.  I have lost 120 pounds and gain about 10 of them back but have stayed there for about a year.  It will always be a challenge but as long as I stay on top of how I eat  and getting the walking in I know it will continue to work.
