    October 2018 Sleevers

I haven’t posted in a while. Life gets in the way! I had my surgery October 16th. I had my three month follow up with my doctor last week. He was very pleased with my progress. I’m down 56 pounds since October 2 when I started the liver shrinking diet and 43 pounds since the surgery. Here are some of the amazing things that have happened to me (besides my weight loss): I’ve lost 26 inches all over my body My old clothes fit me now. In fact some of my size 16 are big! I can fit into some XL’s! But probably the most amazing change is that life has been very stressful lately, dealing with two sick parents who live far away. I’ve traveled several times to visit them in the past month and the old me would’ve turned to food to help me cope but I haven’t! I feel so much more capable of dealing with my stress because of all of the work I did beforehand. I’ve realized that food is not that important and that I’m not going to let it derail all of the work I’ve done! I hope you’re all doing well and feeling great!

I took a couple of dulcolax and they help but now I’ve started eating two prunes a day and that seems to help better! The dulcolax takes some time to work. Good luck! I know it’s so painful!

For starters let me say, wow on your weight loss! You’re doing great! I know for me, I’ve been so stuck on that number on the scale for so long it’s hard to sometimes realize the other fantastic changes going on. For example, dropping clothing sizes, being able to walk upstairs without being totally out of breath and losing inches. Everyone stalls, especially when you start eating solid food again. Put the scale away and focus on all of the other positive things!

I second that you got this! Just be mindful of what you’re eating. I always tend to talk and not pay attention to my chewing and what I’ve eaten.

    Dr. Tishler in Hartford CT?

I wouldn’t worry to much about being a pest. It’s your health!

I drink crystal light, if you like that, or I put cucumber in my water. Makes it a lot easier to drink it!

    Dr. Tishler in Hartford CT?

I used Dr. Pirello at St Francis in Hartford. You definitely have to stay on top of them. Keep calling. That’s what I had to do. Also, make sure you’ve done everything they’ve asked for. This makes the insurance process much faster! Good luck!

    40yr olds...

Good luck! Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery.
  13. I’m with you KT! This weekend we celebrated Chanukah and my nephews birthday. I really really wanted to dig into the cake I made him and eat anything fried, but I didn’t! You can do this! Maybe it’s the stress of writing your paper that’s making you want to eat? Do you have sugar free popsicles? I love those and they usually help with cravings. Good luck!
  14. I’ve tried a bunch. Premier protein is good but I really like Unjury chocolate splendor and their vanilla. You’re right to find ones you like beforehand. They gave me the ensure protein in the hospital. They were ok but your tastebuds will be off a bit and sweet things may taste SUPER sweet to you. That’ll pass after a few weeks. Good luck!

    Babies over 40?

I’m sorry for your loss. I’ve heard that you do become very fertile but most surgeons warn against getting pregnant in the first year. I’d definitely talk to your surgeon about it. Best of luck to you!

    40yr olds...

What an awesome birthday gift to give yourself! Don’t stress to much about the fluid. As long as you’re drinking what you can and peeing, I wouldn’t worry. It’ll get easier to drink. Good luck to you!

    30g protein bars

Have you tried the Think Thin? They are definitely softer than some of the others.

I’m 44 and had the sleeve done in October. I’m so happy I did it!

    30g protein bars

I like the Think Thin protein bars. I think they only have 20g of protein but they taste like a treat and they’re low in sugar. I also like the premier protein bars.

Hi Linda. I had both. I’m not taking Prilosec anymore but my doctor’s had me on pantoprazole since the surgery and for three months after. I don’t have any heartburn but I can’t say if it’s because of the medication or not. I can eat spicy foods without any problem. I can tell you I had no pain after the surgery, but everyone is different. Good luck!

First of all you look fantastic! I’m 7 weeks out and I try to weigh myself only once a week but I agree, it’s hard! Don’t get stuck on those numbers! Look at other things, like this picture and the way your clothes fit. I’m going to try to go a few weeks without weighing myself. Maybe that’ll help you too. Good luck and keep up the great work!

    Need help

Maybe start from scratch? Go back to protein shakes once or twice a day. Try to prepare your food ahead of time. So maybe put a portion in a container and know that’s what you can have. Also, try to go to a support group or therapy and talk it out. I like the support groups because I get good ideas and I don’t feel alone in this journey. You can get back on track!!!! Good luck!

Hide your scale! Lol. I was making myself crazy in the beginning too now I weigh myself once a week. I lost nothing this week. Makes me frustrated too but I’ve lost a lot of inches and my clothes fit better! That’s what I try to go by. You’re doing an awesome job! Just step away from the scale!
