    Gastric Sleeve On Nov 20th

be careful with the caffeine. I do not believe we are supposed to be drinking caffeine right now due to its a dehydrator. Check with your Dr. First.. but something I learned at a support meeting was to roast veggies and put them in your broth to give it flavor, then to remove them.

    Pre-op Tips & Tricks

also get Protein water. It will help with the protein in case you do not get all the shakes in. Also check with your Dr. Mine also said 4-5 but it had to be the lower protein g.. not the 30 because then we would be taking in way too much protein. I spaced my protein shakes out for every few hours in between my meal times. I had broth for a meal to keep some kind of normalcy. ( I could not have food at all, it was strictly liquid.) Congratulations! You got this!

    Tespo

I have been wanting one of these too. It would be great to know!
  5. Well today I am 2 weeks post op. I am down 11.6 since surgery and 20 before for a total of 31.6. I have done very well and been very lucky since day 1. I have a great surgeon and have not had any issues so far. Today I start Puree Foods for the next two weeks. He said I could try a week then move to soft if I wanted to, but if I was unable to hold the food down then I needed to back it back up to puree. I think I will just follow the two week schedule. I really want to get back to Ballroom Dancing, but I have to wait a min of 2 weeks and max of 4. He said it all depends on if I can hold down food and keep getting all my liquids and proteins. He did warn me that as of right now it was easy because everything was in liquid form, but starting today, the puree will take place of the protein shake meals and I still need to get 64 ounces of Liquids in. I am a little worried about the next stage as I have seen others not be able to tolerate foods, but I am confident I will figure something out.  Here is to the next stage!

  6. Happy Thanksgiving to All! I am starting puree today and still cooking for my adult children! Willpower here I come! LOL.. It will be fine, I am not hungry and will have some blended chili for lunch today. For dinner I may puree some ground turkey and cauliflower mash.. but I have a feeling I will still have some chili to eat LOL. For breakfast, I am still working on my caramel pecan flavored decaf with caramel protein shake in it. My son ran off to the store to buy all the stuff for desserts since I excluded that all from my shopping list LOL. Daughter will be here after her work shift at Disney! Have a wonderful time with family today all. that is really what the day is about and not the food.
  7. are you tracking your food intake? What about liquids? Also on the food, what is your intake? Carbs? Proteins? Etc. How many calories are you consuming daily and are you eating your protein first. I am still fairly new at this but all I see on the hospital support group I am a part of is the Bariatric Coordinator advises those that are in the same situation is to go back to basics. The carbs should be minimal until you are at 75% of your excess weight lost. Again, I am not a doctor and I am new at this myself, but maybe you need to re-evaluate how many carbs you are eating daily, and how much water you are drinking as well. Good Luck

    Chest pains

the pain is gas as you are sipping. I went through the same thing every time i took a sip. It seems the gas was trying to pass the liquid on the way down as the burp was coming up. I am now two weeks post op and that seems to have gone away. I dont exactly remember which day but i no longer feel that constant pain in the chest as i am drinking liquids.

    Sweets

Nice Matt! I agree 100%. Having said that. Find alternatives to the sweets you are eating. We all get that sweet tooth at one time or another but there are plenty of options out there to assist. One of my favorite i learned a long time ago while on a diet plan was the apple pie filling.. Cut up and apple, add a little bit of splenda, cinnamon, and i think a dash of cornstarch.. with a tablespoon of water. I will have to find the exact recipe. But you microwave it. It taste just like apple pie, warm. if you are in the period of your journey where you can add enlightened or halo top.. then add just a little. Warning it melts very fast LOL.. but it sure hit the spot when i needed something sweet.

    New and completely lost

Welcome and Good Luck! Congratulations on the quitting smoking. I quit too on Sept 25th mainly because i decided to do the surgery and my surgeon required 30 day smoke free before surgery. I am now two weeks post op and do not regret a thing. I have no plans on going back to smoking either.

    Plateau?

I am two weeks post op today. I havent hit a stall yet, but i am sure it is coming as i start puree foods today. I missed walking the last two days due to busy schedules and not getting home till 10 pm last night and 9pm the night before. I am going to try and make up for it today and tomorrow by doing 2 miles instead of 1.. and then maybe just do two miles a day going forward. I just want to make sure i am eating enough for that amount of walking. Up until now i was only taking in 350 calories a day, and burning off 200 just in the walk never mind the rest of the day.. Here is to the next phase.
  13. Great article..love love this article. Thank you SW 306.6 CW 273.0 GW 135
  14. Congratulations and good Luck! I was lucky and had no issues immediately following surgery. Today I am 13 days post op and down 11.3 since surgery and 30.6 since i started my pre op diet. This is the best decision i have ever made. Today i transition to Puree. and i had a little bit of chili ( only because i couldnt blend it at work, i was unprepared). I will blend it later and attempt to finish it for dinner along with a protein shake. Heres to a speedy recovery!
  15. I am new to this myself, I find however carrying stuff with me at all times helps. I just moved to puree today. What about one of the hand blenders you can use while on the road. Meal prep when you stop at hotels, then use the blender to blend it. Though I am not sure if you have a microwave on your bus. If not, it will be a little difficult. But if not, you can blend while at the hotel and freeze while on the bus and then microwave. Since you will be eating 3 meals a day, you can have the evening one right before you go on stage or whatnot to accomodate your timing. Not sure if any of this info helped, especially coming from a newbie, but i am pretty much a planner and am always looking for ways to accomplish tasks. Also for exercise... You can see if they have a small stationary piece of equipment that you can work with on the bus if there is enough room or get videos that you can use to walk in place and get your exercise in that way since you will be traveling. Good Luck!

    How will you handle Thanksgiving?

I am just starting puree, so i will be sticking to my puree menu of some sort. I will be however cooking as my son is a vegetarian, daughter is high protein low carb and son in law only one to eat whatever LOL.. So i will cook, they are all in their mid 20s and i do not want any of them to be without. We always get together for the hanging out and maybe a venture out to see the crazy black friday stuff, or just stay in and watch movies. It will be a later than normal dinner because daughter has to work in the morning. ( She works for Disney- and gets out at 4) so dinner will be at 6
  18. my surgeon will fix the upper Gi issue during the course of the VSG.. He had told me that from the beginning, that if he saw anything that would cause reflux or anything he would fix it.. Maybe i am misunderstanding the issue and one has nothing to do with the other.. but i would check into them fixing it while in there doing the surgery.
  19. I used to be just like that. I had moved away from my children who are grown and i too wrote off family a long time ago after my parents passed. Do the best you can with your son.. Make memories! Go someplace and create traditions. Thats what i did with my children a long time ago before i had moved out of state. It took 3 years of holidays without them for me to move back and we have more fun over the holidays and none of it is about the food.

    1st purée meal

I just ordered Wendy's Chili- I know i shouldnt be eating out already, but i checked the nutrition on it. I will still have my shake because i do not see myself eating nearly any of it, and i dont have a blender at work so will have to blend when i get home tonight to try the rest. I am excited and scared at the same time.

6 days post op . I need help!

it gets better! Walk walk walk!!! Even if its just a few houses over and back. It will help relieve the gas pain. It does get easier as each day goes by.

    How did you do it?

I saw the doctor today. Number one goal is to maintain hydration. I move into Puree foods tomorrow then to soft and then regular. He did say i did not need to follow his guide of 2 weeks to the T.. Said to test it.. if at any point i am not getting my 64 ounces of water in.. to back up and not progress further until its accomplished. He did say.. He doesnt want me to have more than 40g of carbs per day. ( the nutritionist recommended 60g) He said i didnt need that many, and 40 was enough and i needed to make sure i ate those last and only if still hungry. I am both excited and nervous to start puree tomorrow because i have not had food in my system since Oct 25th. Will see how tomorrow goes.. Slow and Steady wins the race!
