  1. So, some may have seen some threads where I was complaining that it hurt really bad to swallow. I am 15 days out now and get about 20oz of water a day. I just got back from my surgeon and he is 95% sure I've developed an ulcer where my esophagus meets the pouch. (I am not a smoker) He put me on Carafate 4 times a day and asked me to resume Percocet. It really really hurts to swallow. Even spit hurts to swallow. They are doing an endoscopy Monday to ensure it's not a stricture, but nothing ever comes back up or gets stuck... it just burns like the fires of hell, lol, which is a massive deterrent to swallowing. They also put me back on liquids. I was on soft foods. Anyone else here get an ulcer? How long does it take to heal? It's really painful and really inhibiting my fluid intake. My everything intake, really. They don't want to put me on IV fluids yet though because my electrolytes are fine. Hopefully this Carafate soothes things!
  2. Welp. Today I drank 26oz in 30 minutes, which was apparently a grave error... as it came out the other end 10 min later without warning. So, yes, I can drink now... But apparently I need to pace myself. lol. Ughhhh. As far as protein, I am just following my handbook exactly and not specifically counting. They said not to worry about meeting protein goals for several weeks and to just follow the book. I am probably 2/3 of the way there anyways with what they have me eating. I had a mini mental breakdown last night over Taco Bell. The ex moved out yesterday and it was contentious and now I am totally alone, but started reading Never Binge Again during said breakdown, and it made me feel a lot better.
  3. I am the most impatient person in the world. I told my friend this morning that I'll be the first person ever to not lose weight from gastric bypass and that medical science will have failed me. lol. Can I just wake up and be down 40lbs already? Yep. It's going to be a looonnngg road for me. lol
  4. Just wanted to update. This morning I woke up and just filled up a giant Slurpee cup from the tap with hot water. It's been an hour and I've had 39 ounces!! I had my first meal and it was filling for once! You seriously never appreciate the power of what water can do when you're drinking 100 oz a day... until you suddenly drop to... 10 a day. Feeling much better already.
  5. Oh, I get that! I lost 60lbs last year and went down ONE pants size. Absurd. I felt a lot better though, physically. (gained all that weight back however). I am still interested in the number though.
  6. Easier said than done! lol! I was just curious as to each person's patterns. I know it varies. My friend who had the sleeve is like... girl... don't even weigh yourself until at least a month or two. And my surgeon doesn't care until 1 month, either. But I'm still curious!
  7. Hey all. I am 8 days out and lost 12lbs the first 4 days, nothing the last 3, and gained a pound this morning. I've lost 12lbs in a week before on low carb diets. When do you really start noticing it drop, typically? Like when in your process did you think "hey, it's actually working?"
  8. Making some crushed ice Powerade as we speak...
  9. Thanks for the advice. Coupled with the encouragement from the dietitian that I haven't ruined my entire plane of existence, I feel a bit better. lol.
  10. Also the timer idea is a good one. I think that will help me a lot!
  11. The nurse in the morning also told me to not have more than 4 oz of broth anymore. But the dietitian just said I could use that as my hydration. UGH. Would have been doing that all along.
  12. Just talked to my dietitian. She said to forego eating if it means I can get more fluid in. I'm only at about 25oz today so far. I also asked her why my manual says to only have one protein shake a day, which means I am getting only 15g of protein (minus my small protein meals), and she said if I can tolerate more to have more. Um... yes. The protein shakes don't bother my but this friggin book says to only have 12 ounces a day!
  13. I'm not still on liquids. I am on puree and some soft foods. Had chili, tuna, cottage cheese, and yogurt today.
  14. I haven't tried the popsicles yet which is dumb on my part because I literally just bought some. lol. I'll get one now, actually. I do fine with warm broth. It's something about room temp and cold liquids that just is so uncomfortable. I also constantly feel like I am sipping, but then I look at the ounces drank and it's been like.... 4. I sent a message to my dietitian asking if I can drink broth more in lieu of water. I also am going to go get tea tonight. Late, when no one is at Walmart, so I can shrink to the ground if I need to. lol!
  15. I am one week postop and have been starving since I was in the hospital. I am feeling really discouraged because I thought this would help with my hunger at least a little, but it did nothing?? So now instead of actually being able to eat what I used to and feel satisfied, I eat my 2.5 oz and continue to feel starving. I am also having the same old cravings and I worry that them, coupled with my hunger, is going to lead to failure. I could have starved myself without surgery.... Yes, I've contacted my surgical team and I'm getting a lot of "we don't knows" and have been forwarded to 4 different members of the team so far and I'm now waiting on the 4th to try to find an answer for me. I feel like I made a huge mistake! I am supposed to eat five 2.5 oz meals for 2 months and I literally sit and stare at the clock to run to eat at the 2 hour intervals. I feel like I am set up for failure because I can't go 2 months feeling this way! I'm even starting to contemplate ways to just stretch the pouch out eventually and just say eff it. It's a bad head space right now.
  16. For what it's worth, I am a week out and I regret it. I did this for the wrong reasons and I know it. I am also dehydrated, bad, but I am waiting for lab results to return before my surgical team decides if I need emergency fluids. I haven't walked since I was gone because I can't stand more than 3 min without getting lightheaded. I am starving and have cravings, despite eating. I CAN drink water, but it feels like it gets stuck when I swallow and it's a huge deterrent but they won't look for a stricture for 4 weeks. I get about 20oz of liquid a day right now. I used to get over 100. My urine is straight up brown. Maybe it'll get better. Maybe it won't. Either way, it is what it is and you aren't alone. I was told NOT to go to the ER yet. So I wait.
  17. Ok... I thought it was just me being cursed or something. lol. I didn't check the cream of chicken, but the hummus was low in fat and sugars. Maybe the seasonings just irritated me even though it was plain? It was definitely a different... experience.... than the soup fiasco. I'm going to stick to bland stuff for a while... maybe the only thing new try will be tuna or chicken salad. Unf. I don't want to be someone who ends up sick all the time! I thought it only really happened with really starchy or sugary things like desserts or pastas, etc.
  18. I'm eating exactly what my surgeon has cleared me for.
  19. I'm just wondering if anyone had this issue at first and it went away?
  20. Yes, the surgeon said it could be a stricture or it could just be sensitivity while I am healing since it's so soon and they will discuss it again in 3 weeks. But in the meantime I am not getting fluids in so I don't know what to do. I told them all of this. I'm trying to swallow and push through since it's not coming back up.
  21. I just had surgery on the 1st. On full liquids, I was allowed to eat cream based soups, so Monday I had strained cream of chicken. For hourrrrrsss I was sweating and then shivering and my heart was racing. Now I am on puree and I had 2 oz of hummus and I just dry-heaved several times and I'm getting super flushed. I feel so so so nauseous and hot! I am eating what they say I can but this is twice now in 3 days! Is this truly dumping or is it just from my stomach not being healed enough? Should I never try these foods again? Is this going to be a risk every single friggin time I have a new food?? This is awful! Every time I eat I am terrified. It makes me not want to eat ever.
  22. Omg I an glad I found this thread. I am one week out and about 80% of the time I swallow anything it feels like it gets stuck. Doc said today it could be a stricture but they're going to give it a few weeks. It's so uncomfortable and I am really dehydrated because I don't want to eat or drink because of it!
  23. I didn't have mini, I had regular RNY, but I am one week out and food and liquids are getting caught in my esophagus too. It is extremely uncomfortable and has made me dehydrated because I don't want to drink. I've been eating 2 or 3 of my 5 meals a day. They told me it could be a stricture but it's too early to tell. Have they checked you for that?
  24. I'm also only getting 15g to 20g of protein a day, and my surgeon said that is normal and he doesn't expect me to get to my levels for weeks. So I'm not stressing.
  25. I had surgery on the 1st and still have all the same cravings. The only thing stopping me is knowing I will feel horrific if I ate it. Monday I was scheming every possible way it would be *ok* to have a single bite of Taco Bell. But I have already experienced dumping from some cream of chicken soup so let me tell you... that is not something I want again. I just went to puree today... I am a huge texture person. I can't wait to move onto the crunch. I guess the thing is... I am still hungry. I am still craving. But now I will literally get violently ill if I cave, so I won't. That's the tool for me. Deterrence by punishment. lol.
