  1. Ever since I started pre-op, my skin has been exploding with both cystic acne and whiteheads. Mostly cystic acne. I've always had a small amount on my forehead from the oil from my bangs. But it has gotten very bad and painful! What is going on? Will the hormone changes post-op make it even worse?? I have surgery in 2 days. Did anyone experience acne issues either pre or post-op? Never had it this bad for as long as I can remember.
  2. Martinsburg, West Virginia here
  3. I am now just 4 days out from surgery and haven't lost a pound. 12 days on pre-op so far. Followed the pre-op diet exactly. Oh well.
  4. I know I don't get to choose what happens, but if I had to choose between the two, I would most definitely prefer being constipated! lol! I don't want to risk any accidents at work or in public. Diarrhea is the worst! I would rather vomit every day of my life than deal with that.
  5. I am on my pre-op which is primarily liquid and one small meal and I am extremely constipated. Worse than I've been in a very long time.
  6. BY THE WAY: We have a Facebook support group for November Bypass Patients! Search for "Bypass'ing in November" on Facebook!
  7. Go up by your username in the righthand corner and click "create" and then "ticker". You can make a few different kinds... weight lost... days to surgery... that sort of thing.
  8. Lots of people have it, but it doesn't cause symptoms. Why don't they have you bring in a stool sample? Would you still have to stop your GERD medicine then?
  9. I am having trouble finding many items in the bariatricpal store that does not have whey in it. Anyone here familiar with any products on there that are whey-free? I've clicked through a bunch with no luck, except for the sloppy joes.
  10. Pft this thread. Yeah... um... I gained 15lbs during my "food funerals" between my first appointment and the last one I had (June 6th - mid-September) and after finding out that I hadn't lost a single pound in 7 days on my pre-op diet, I went and got Burger King AND Taco Bell yesterday sooooo. Yeah. Actually feel pretty ashamed about it since I didn't even make it a solid 7 days without slipping up. I'm sure post-op NEXT WEEK will be peachy..
  11. Went to the START Clinic yesterday and the hospital's scale says I haven't lost ANY weight. So... 8 days in out of 16 and zero weight loss. I don't even understand how this is scientifically possible.
  12. I went to the Start Clinic today to do my final pre-op stuff before surgery next week and they tested me for a urinary tract infection, saying they don't do surgery if you have one. Well, turns out I have one... but my surgeon sent me a note saying "it's not of immediate concern" and we will discuss it at my next appointment... which is next week, the day before my surgery. they didn't give me any antibiotics for it, either. do they give you antibiotics after surgery? is that why they are holding off, maybe, because whatever they'll give me will help the UTI, too? a little concerned... surgery next Thursday.
  13. Wow. My doc told me never to eat any bread again!
  14. I have to believe I am just experiencing an extreme drop in my metabolism and next week things will improve. I've been on super low carb diets (less than 30g total a day) and have been very successful. This is not working at all for me so far. I'm sticking to it, for sure, but I don't want to see my surgeon the day before surgery and him not believe I did what they said to do. I guess that's my main concern.
  15. I can't have whey protein isolates. I am intolerant to whey protein. Not lactose, but whey itself. Atkins shakes are half whey, half soy, so I tolerate those okay. My other shake is a soy protein isolate.
  16. I have a call on Monday with the bariatric nurse to confirm my medications. I think I need to discuss this with them. Because I've been on other diets before and lost more than this in a shorter time. So something isn't right... unless my body is in starvation mode and it's going to drop a TON all at once. It's really hard not to get discouraged, though, when you actually do what you're supposed to. =( I lost more weight in September when I was eating Taco Bell once a day. lol. Not kidding.
  17. I chose only the low carb Atkins. Not looking at net carbs, but total. I was told nothing else than the things I described.
  18. I wake up, take my bariatric vitamins. 8am, protein shake. 12, healthy choice or Atkins meal, 5, protein shake. and the immuno recovery drink shortly after. second dose of bariatric vitamins around 7. that's it.
  19. I drink a lot of water. I drink 80oz a day, minimum. I am doing everything I am told to do, at the times I was told to do it. This is stupid.
  20. And when I weighed myself on Day 1, I was dressed and today I wasn't. So I may have not even lost hardly a thing!
  21. I've been on my pre-op diet for 5 solid days now and I have lost 1 lb! I thought we are supposed to lose weight on this thing! My surgeon said "everybody" drops a lot of pounds in these 16 days and I have lost 1lb. ONE. And I am starving! What gives!? I have two shakes a day that are 100-180 calories each and one frozen meal under 300 calories and that's it! If I can't lose weight eating this few calories, how will surgery help? Feeling discouraged.
  22. I did gain 15lbs though during my food binge! But, day 2 on pre-op and I've already dropped 3lbs of water weight. So... it's fixable. I don't regret my food funerals. I would have regretted it if I didn't do it, lol. The last of a bad habit. Like savoring the last cig before you quit.
  23. My thing is... after surgery... I don't WANT to eat what I want now. Because all I want now is junk which is how I got this size. So, for me, it truly was a goodbye. I don't intend on giving into my cravings or even if I dont have cravings... having any of the junky stuff I enjoy now. I can't do it because it's a slippery slope. It's better to abstain. I'm on the pre-op diet now so my food funerals are over for real. Taking this bit seriously.
  24. It tastes exactly like if you were to bite into a fish oil pill. And mix it with creamer. Seriously repulsive. I am chugging it as fast as humanly possible and then chugging water.
  25. My surgeon said 2 weeks for desk jobs, 4 weeks for physically demanding jobs. Can drive on your own in 1 week. I'm taking 2 weeks (fortunately there's Election Day and Veteran's Day in there so I don't have to use SO much leave). Obviously, though, you never know if you could have complications so it could always be longer. Better to rest than push yourself, I think. That being said, one of my bosses had this surgery 6 years ago and went back to work 3 days after getting out of the hospital, just to meetings. He said he felt really uncomfortable, but it was manageable.
