Strictures and Burping. Fun stuff. Advice?
I had my one week postop today and I am very dehydrated. I am having trouble swallowing - food and liquid is getting stuck at the bottom of my esophagus before it goes into my stomach. It doesn't come back up. It just sits there for several, long moments and then drops. I am trying to force myself to drink anyways. They said it *could* be a stricture, but it's too early to tell and could just be sensitive from recent surgery. I tried looking up strictures and all I can find are the ones connecting your stomach to intestine. Nothing about your esophagus to your stomach. Is this feeling normal? It happens about 80% of the time. Second question. I cannot stop burping. It isnt related to me eating or drinking. It is all.the.time. It doesn't happen when I am laying down, but when I am sitting and standing. And I always feel like I have to force it out. I'm not swallowing any air, because it isn't necessarily happening when I am drinking or eating. Is this just the CO2 coming out still?

Help, I'm hungry AGAIN!
Girl I am just 6 days post op and feel exactly as hungry as I did last week, pre-op.

6 days post op, starving!
I just didnt expect to feel hungry. Like, normal pre-op hunger. I didnt at first, but it's coming out full force and nothing I am consuming now is satisfying it.

6 days post op, starving!
Day 6 post op. I am on full liquids until Thursday or Friday. I am starting to feel so so hungry though. My brain has begun plotting "tricks" on how I could scoop put Taco Bell burritos and eat that and just have "just one bite of mac n cheese". I just have a deep hunger that isnt remotely being satisfied by liquids. I NEED to chew something! lol. The longer I go without food-food, the harder it's becoming not to just gorge and dump. And I already had dumping once from trying cream soup (which they said I could have but didnt tolerate). I am so scared I'll get to real foods and have more dumping. But I am going a bit nuts on liquids, dreaming about 7 layer dip on tablespoons, drizzled with fire sauce. lol! Texture. Required.

Mental Starvation?
I had bypass, and I am only 6 days out and have been on liquids since the day before surgery and I am already going nuts, so I sympathize. I feel hungry, too, but I think it's moreso an extreme urge to just want something solid. I feel a hunger deep inside that isnt satiated with liquids. I think it's normal and will get much better once we can actually chew something!

4 days post op.. emotional wreck, help.
I tried to get in with a therapist before surgery but my psychiatrist has to see me first to do a referral and she can't see me til December. Then it's like another month from there. I know once my hormones have time to regulate again I will be much better. I just need to get there.

4 days post op.. emotional wreck, help.
My surgeon's office JUST called while I was randomly bawling my eyes out. I think I briefly scared the nurse. lol. I seriously feel like I am experiencing the worst PMS of my life. That's the only way I can explain my emotions right now. She said every day it will get better, and even after week 1 there will be a marked improvement. I'm just in a crazy place right now, emotionally. And there seems to be no reasoning with it. My brain is being an a-hole. I know I did the right thing. I KNOW it. But some part of me is trying it's hardest to make me feel just awful.

4 days post op.. emotional wreck, help.
Hey all. I am 4 days post op robotic RNY... all day I've been getting super hot and then shivering. No fever though. Getting water down a lot better than yesterday. But I keep like.. inducing panic attacks. My heart has been pounding since yesterday and i keep half-crying. I feel like a crazy person! I keep questioning if I did the right thing, and then thinking about foods like Golden Grahams and mac n cheese and wondering why I couldn't just be happy the way I was and how unjust it is that I have friends who eat total garbage and never gained a pound and that I had to have this surgery just to be healthy, etc etc. I didn't really have any health issues and did this mostly due to poor self image and maybe to prevent the unknown problems I'd have later on. Serious Buyer's Remorse keeps cycling through. I am tired of eating liquids and tired of feeling nauseous and crampy. I just want all of it to stop and for me to feel normal again. I know I will eventually feel better and not sick, once I heal up. But my head is playing tricks on me and I feel like I will feel this cruddy forever and I wonder wtf I did to myself. How do I get through this... there's no turning back and that is terrifying to me. But it's too late for that now. Like. I had to get my stomach chopped in half to stop eating junk. I feel pathetic for that. And everywhere I look there's food ads. On TV, while in the car, on social media. It's like a constant reminder of failure. Sorry for the rant. I'm just feeling like I am on a rollercoaster of emotion. And also still, obviously, sore. I am already down 10lbs in 5 days, which is great and all. I just feel sad I couldn't do this on my own. I feel weak. Any words of encouragement from the vets here are appreciated.

When can I start swallowing capsules?
I just got home from the hospital today and they said I can swallow any capsules. I just have to crush the potassium pill because it's huge. They were even giving me capsules in the hospital.

Just got home.. question about eating
Hey! Just had surgery on the 1st and got home this morning at 11. Everything went perfectly. I am struggling a bit with one thing I don't really get yet. I don't feel hungry, maybe a slight twinge. But I do not feel full at all. I am on 2 2oz portions of full liquids 5 times a day. Just now, for example, I opted for 4 oz of cream of tomato soup. I think I am sipping too fast? It is so hard to tell because I don't feel full... but by the time I guess my body has had enough I get kind of burpy and heavy feeling. Does that mean I am going too quickly or is that just the new cue on when to stop? I'm not taking big gulps, I don't think... but it only takes me about 5 minutes to finish those 4 ounces. Also, I can drink water nonstop and not have any symptoms. Is that normal? I went through 18 ounces in 2 hours no problem. I don't want to do things TOO fast, but without normal cues I'm just not sure what's pushing it?

Did you tell your new partner you had WLS?
Now that I've had the last 2 weeks to think about it... these are my conclusions so far... I honestly don't want to waste my time going on a date with someone just for them to have an issue with it. I like the other poster's process of putting a before and after photo as one of the dating profile pics. That way, they know whether to "swipe right or swipe left" and I don't even have to talk to anyone who may be against it. I was planning on waiting until after plastics to start dating. I won't feel comfortable in my own skin until that's finished, and I don't want to start dating the wrong person because I still have low self-esteem due to my body image. I mean, yes, time flies and all.. but I am 29. I think I can wait 18 months-24 months to start dating again.

Can’t decide which surgery is best... let’s talk about hunger
I am having bypass on Thursday. My surgeon said it will reduce/eliminate hunger and cravings, but if you read these forums... you'll see that both bypass and sleeve patients still experience some hunger and cravings. From everything I've read and everyone I've talked to, neither seems to be better than the other. It really seems to be luck of the draw and how your own body reacts. As an aside, the sleeve can make acid reflux worse, while bypass improves it... which is why I went with that choice. Don't know if you suffer from acid reflux, but that's something to consider, too!

Acne!!
After you have your 3 mouthfuls, how long do you typically feel you have to wait before drinking again?
-
Acne!!
That was actually one of my questions for the surgeon tomorrow. Like, I know I am supposed to have this 8oz shake mid-morning. Well, how do I know how long I should wait between sips? Similar thing with water.

Acne!!
I bought a 64oz water bottle when I started taking a super strong diuretic for my pseudotumor. I've since stopped taking the diuretic, but I'm still always thirsty so I fill that thing up twice at work, and then drink several more 8oz glasses at home! I hope I can somehow get close to this again after my stomach is tiny!
-
Acne!!
Not yet - I have my final visit with my surgeon tomorrow morning and I'll bring it up. I went ahead just now and scheduled an appointment with a dermatologist for next week - hope I am up to going.

Have you purchased any goal clothing for after surgery?
I just so happened to save a bag of business skirts from when I was a size 12 a few years back. I'm a 22 now, so those are my goal clothes! I hope to get to a size 10, ideally. I just can't wait to start purging my "fat" clothes. I hate all of them! lol!

Acne!!
I'm really worried that once my hormones start going nuts after surgery, it will just get worse, especially since I won't be absorbing the vitamins as well as I am now. (I am even peeing neon green because I am being dosed with so many vitamins).

Acne!!
I drink 100oz - 120oz a day currently, and I have been on the bariatric vitamin regimine for the last 15 days + some weird immunonutrition immune boosting recovery shake. I don't *feel* stressed. I don't know. It is really painful though! I feel like I need something like Accutane, but I am scared to take a medicine that harsh post-abdominal surgery.

Under 30 Bypass Crew
I was just told today that surgeons don't recommend gastric bypass to younger people because you have a longer lifespan of not getting enough nutrients (contraindicated for long-term risk and permanency), and it has a devastating impact when you are older. I have noticed that pretty much everyone I've met or talked to that had gastric is 40's or later. Anyone here in their 20's like me?

What order should the plastics be done?
The side boob fat is not actually part of your breast. It's fat. Like part of your side.. torso... I asked about it when I had my reduction/lift. They will not touch it; it's a separate procedure. You would need liposuction in that area and skin removal separately if there is any.
-
What order should the plastics be done?
I had a breast reduction last year (before WLS) and there was NO pain at all. I would add that onto any other surgery. It was extremely easy, and they chopped off a full 8lbs! I plan on doing the arms AND a 360 lower body lift at the same time. I just want to get it all done and over with. Suffer through it once, not multiple times.

Non-dairy Protein Powder
I am having this same struggle. I can't tolerate whey protein. Unjury Pea Protein is touted, but I thought it was SUPER GROSS. There's rice protein on Amazon. I love 365 Everyday Vanilla Soy by Whole Foods, but they stopped selling it on Amazon and there's no Whole Foods near me.
