birthday present for my trainer
My trainer's birthday is Monday. He is turning 47. I love him; he has been my only true "real life" support and motivation. He has taught me so much, not just about exercise, but about how to accept myself the way I am. He is always so encouraging and gets so psyched to see when I succeed and it makes me feel just awesome. It's something I've never had before in my life. He is my therapist and my rock. I'd like to get him a birthday gift but I have no clue. He expects me to be snarky and sarcastic, lol, so something along those lines. He is a powerlifter and likes the mountains and hunting. Anyone have any ideas? Would it be weird to get him something? I'm definitely going to write him a thank you note later on in "my journey". Something amusingly cynical would be great. lol

Spinning Lessons.
I serioussllyy hate cardio, but I was really shocked that I enjoyed the class. Except now that the day has gone on, it feels like I have... chafing in places that should never chafe. LOL. I recommend trying it! Don't wear crappy shoes.... And put sponges in your underwear. lolol.

Drinking water as a teacher
As a chronic water chugger, I will tell you that while it won't do any harm, taking very large gulps or chugging will be painful. Try to take small sips throughout the day. Can you not have a water bottle on your desk?

Do you ever feel you are losing too fast?
I lost 55 or so in the first 8 weeks. Then nothing at all for the next 8. Now I am losing 2 per week. It will slow down.

Bypass v’s Sleeve..... help!
I knew I wanted bypass because it has the malabsorption component and the deterrence of dumping syndrome. My sleeve friend can still eat whatever carbs/sugar he wants and not risk feeling ill. I like having the negative reinforcement to deter me from straying. Also... acid reflux. Totally gone since bypass, but can get really bad with the sleeve.

BP Store Wishlist
Maybe I'm just not seeing it, but there should really be a wishlist for the BP store so every time we log in to buy stuff we don't have to keep searching for it, especially when the items we want are out of stock. It would be nice to add our favorite items to a list and just be able to go to that list and pick out the things we want for a particular order instead of scrolling through past orders or trying to find it again. Like a "favorites" button or something like Amazon's wishlist.

Spinning Lessons.
So I decided maybe a class would get me going with cardio. I took spinning for the first time yesterday. It was my first time on actual bike pedals since I was diagnosed with plantar fasciitis in 2014. I wore the most flimsy, thin-soled, circuit training shoes I had... not knowing. GOOD LAWD. I wasn't able to stand up on the pedals much because the pain was excruciating! I haven't had any pain in that foot since about 2017 so I had forgotten about it. The class itself was awesome and I am going to do it every Wednesday. But I went home and immediately ordered firm-soled cycling shoes and..... BUTT PADDED UNDERWEAR! I have bruises on bones in places I didn't even know existed. lmao. So now I have a trainer twice a week, spinning once a week, and yoga once a week. Woooooots

Laxative "transfer addiction"?
That makes sense. I don't want to get in the mindset that laxatives = weight loss.

HELOC for Plastics
Insurance pays for tummy if you have rashes, but by 18 months out (when they would pay), I imagine my stomach will be pretty much flat, but I want a tummy tuck anyways to get a bit more tightness. It may be a mini tummy tuck. I don't know much about the inner thigh work. I never hear much about people having that done. My "plan" is brachioplasty in November, tummy tuck May 2020, and then butt/legs December 2020.

30 minutes
I find this to probably be the most challenging thing for me. Probably because I always have a drink at my desk at work, but also have my breakfast and 2 snacks at work so sometimes I drink something and then it's snack time and I don't even think about it. I do make sure I get a drink when I go out to eat though because I made the GRAVE error of getting old bay wings and then starting friggin' choking on the spice in the back of my throat and desperately needed a sip, but hadn't gotten even a water. So. Yeah. It's good to have on hand in event of choking. LOL. I also eat A LOT of hot sauce and sometimes a small sip is absolutely required because of the sheer burning in your mouth. I need to start the timer thing for real, though, for work occasions.

Laxative "transfer addiction"?
So, I went through a period, as some may recall, where I didn't go for 17 days. Now I take 2 Colace a day and a mag citrate pill. But then on the weekends I take a full dose of Milk of Magnesia and it seriousssslllyyy cleans me out over the next 12-24 hours. Like, disturbingly. I won't go into graphic detail. That's also the time I drop weight during the week and see the scale move. I asked my surgeon if it was okay to continue taking Milk of Mag indefinitely and he said once a week is fine and will not cause any physical reliance on laxatives. But I feel like I REALLY look forward to the weekend when I can take it because I seriously drop 2lbs afterwards, and that's pretty much how it's been going the last 5 months. No real weight loss during the week, take that laxative, and then I drop weight. And thus far that weight has stayed off so I don't know the correlation really because if I was just expelling water I wouldn't be losing inches, so I must be for real losing weight, too... obviously. Anyway, I sort of feel like I may be becoming MENTALLY dependent on laxatives as a "boost" to losing weight. Has anyone experienced this? I am apparently not physically reliant on them. I would probably go at least twice a week without the MoM on the weekend, but I feel like I HAVE to to lose weight every week. Is this a weird transfer addiction??? O_o I feel like if I didn't know my bowels would basically stop working if I took MoM every single day, I probably would. But from what I understand, laxatives don't cause weight loss... just water loss. But why does the scale drop and NOT go back up after I use them?

Did your surgeon want you to lose weight before you got surgery
Mine said I could if I wanted to, but it wasn't a big deal. I actually gained a little, whoops.

Caffeine Pre and Post Op!
Caffeine was only "forbidden" until I was able to consistently get in at least 72oz of water in a day. Caffeine is a diuretic and that is no bueno post-op. I'm now allowed one cup a day. But I have three some days - of hot tea. Meh.

mother's day jerk
Similar situation with me. Began in middle school with my father saying I was fat when I wasn't. Continued for years and then stopped when I actually became overweight... something that happened because of body image issues directly from the comments he made when I was a child. People don't understand the effect their words truly have on kids. Anyways, screw em.

mother's day jerk
It's messed up because when I was skinny before, my gma and dad would tell me I was fat... and now that I am losing weight, although I'm still 50lbs heavier than I was when they said I was fat, they now say I look good. like wtmf!

mother's day jerk
seeing my gma for the first time since I had surgery. she legit said I "used to be her granddaughter then stopped for a few years (while I was fat) and decided to be her granddaughter again"...... [emoji35][emoji35][emoji35] and yes, she did mean it like that. she always talked **** about my weight behind my back since I had gained. she's become anorexic in her old age, as well, so she has her own problems. we have never gotten along. well jokes on her because it was a buffet and i ate a bit too much and puked in the bathroom, cutting the visit short. #bariatricweaponization

med sorting day!
I take 2 at a time over 5 minutes, 3 times a day.

Nausea...does it ever go away?
I could not tolerate whey. Try soy shake instead. If you continue to be nauseous, could be gallbladder.

Update on my stricture and second endoscopy
I had an ulcer for several weeks immediately post-op. With a lot of medicine and diligence it cleared up. Took about 12 weeks or so. I am glad they can try repeat endoscopies! I was like O___O for a moment!

HELOC for Plastics
I want my arms, tummy, butt, and inner thighs. Arms are the priority though, and insurance MAY pay for my stomach.

regret not doing this sooner
I regret not having this surgery at a lower weight, like 230. I would be at my goal by now. My coworker's niece had the surgery in February at 215 and is already like 10lbs from her goal weight. I have gotten a lot better at not comparing myself to others' progress, but seeing how quick "lighter" WLS patients have hit their goals makes me feel sad at my own journey and that I waited so long.

Six months post-op+ : The Sophomores Thread
I was told up until May 1 (my 6 mos) not to add fiber because of a hernia repair. I take Colace twice daily, Magnesium Citrate pill once daily, and Milk of Mag once a week. I did have some senna last night. They finally said I could add Metamucil if I want, but they also said taking the Milk of Mag once a week is fine, too. I will go once a week on the Colace and Mag Citrate by themselves, so still need the MoM to truly go on the weekends.

How many oz
Depends what those 4oz are. I am 6 months out and sometimes struggle with 4oz of meat. But 4oz of cottage cheese is nothing.

Smoking and ulcers
My question was specifically why bypass patients are more at risk than those that haven't had the surgery. I was trying to understand the science behind that, and not be berated. Also, cigs are like $3 a pack where I live and with the frequency in which I purchase them, it doesn't exactly break the bank so I don't even understand that last comment.
