  1. That's the weirdest thing. I eat yogurt and cottage cheese daily totally fine. I can have nonfat milk fine. But any whey protein shakes or whey protein snacks cause those dumping symptoms. I don't know if there's something in actual milk products that is soothing and prevents it and when the whey itself is isolated out/concentrated it hurts me but it's been like that since surgery, which is why I could only use soy shakes. No clue. I always get soooooo sweaty and flushed and usually vomit.
  2. I was told no citrus fruits because of the fibrous membranes and how they don't digest well and can cause blockages? I dunno. I've eaten a few very small pieces of mandarin oranges that came in a salad.
  3. I feel like there needs to be a Juniors thread. Like 12-18 monthers. =p
  4. Whoopsies. Hey... it was a BariatricPal item though! lol. I just know that nearly every friggin' protein snack that says has whey in it makes me sick but I was *hoping* this one wouldn't. It was delicious though. So if you can tolerate whey... highly recommend. LOL.
  5. I definitely had multiple food funerals during my two-week pre-op "diet" period. I don't regret it whatsoever. I got in all those last "flavors" of foods I mentally committed myself to not having again. I feel like I've been very successful thus far (granted, it hasn't been a full year yet), and I haven't cheated once or really had very many cravings.
  6. Nice! I'll check them out. I got the flavor of delicious chocolate and don't want to have to sacrifice it! lol. Those bars were such a tease. I threw them at my coworker to take away from me but crawled out of the bathroom later and was like "... kinda... worth... it...." *melt*
  7. I bought the BariatricPal Variety Pack protein candy bars and had the Rocky Road one yesterday and IT WAS SO GOOD. AND IT MADE ME SO VIOLENTLY ILL. lol. I *knew* it probably would because of the whey proteins, but it was heavenly. And *almost* worth it. I ended up sweating for 2 hours and puking. So, maybe not. Anyone know of any NON-WHEY chocolate goodies we can have? Soy-based?? Obviously low-carb, preferably high protein. Low-carb soy anything is so hard to find!
  8. No, no compression stockings. Just encouraged to walk around. No blood thinners needed, either, thankfully. Just a ton of heparin shots in the hospital. The shots left permanent discoloration... which may be removed during my upcoming TT. It's a big brown spot. =/
  9. When I said the family doesn't care, I meant like... I was told that they aren't bothering seeking help for him or telling his doc because "he does it to himself so he will just die". That's just what she said. I'm sure they CARE to a degree, but not enough to do anything else for him. I've certainly gotten to that point with someone I know who has an addiction. I get it.
  10. I didn't go for fourteen+ days once. Went to the hospital and there was no blockage. Absurdity. I still take Colace twice daily, MagCitrate PILL once daily, and Milk of Mag once weekly.
  11. *shrug* If he says there's an added risk, I'm okay doing it separately, especially if he can just snip snip in-office. When I had my lift/reduction, the side boob was not part of it because it isn't breast tissue - it would have been an "extra" procedure. I'm already going to be a zombie with my arms in compression garments and my abs in a binder. lol.
  12. Reposting because I should have marked out my personal info. Even though it's probably already been stolen by now. LOL.
  13. The surgeon said he can't remove the skin from my "side boob" because a lot of important vessels run through there that serve the abdominal area so once the TT is healed, he is going to numb the skin in office and cut it off in office. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. lol.
  14. You could be putting on a lot of muscle mass, so still losing fat but not going down on the scale. You should definitely have some rest days between weights!
  15. To be honest, the impression I got was that they weren't going to reach out to him because they typically only do so if another physician contacts them with their concerns. But, she assured me if they did it would be a benign "just checking in" call and they wouldn't bring up anything I said. That way, he wouldn't feel as if "anyone knew his secret" or he was pressured to say anything. I feel like I did the right thing. I also didn't give them my name - just that I was a patient that had surgery a few days before he did. I work in a building that has a large public recovery resource center right downstairs and my coworker is very familiar with all of the resources they offer for addictions. The family just doesn't care. It's just sad. I'm not pushing it any further or involving myself in any other way.
  16. I called. I spoke to the Program Manager at the office and told her what I had been told and what I had seen, and that I had seen pictures of him from being in the hospital from the hemorrhaging last week and he looked horrific. I saw the before photos (of him at 450lbs) and seeing how gaunt he is now would haunt me the rest of my life if he does die and I didn't at least do something. She is going to check with his surgeon to see if they are even allowed to call and do a random check-in. She said it would just be something casual and they would act like it was a regular follow-up call like an appointment confirmation/9 months check-up call. Not actually bring up anything I said, but leave it to him if he wants to say anything.... so he doesn't feel cornered or know anyone "ratted him out". just as if they called everyone at this midway point to see how they were doing. I told them I felt very conflicted about even calling, but they said they deeply appreciate patients like me and my concern for him and they will move forward in the best way they feel they can... if at all. They may not do anything, which is fine... I just couldn't sit by and say I did nothing.
  17. I am definitely a water chugger. It hurt pretty bad to chug water at first. For a while actually. I asked my dietitian if it would do any harm or stretch the pouch and she was like "No... but why would you do it if it hurts?" LOL BECAUSE I AM THIRSTY! Anyways, I seem to be able to chug a fair amount now pain-free. I take large mouthfuls typically instead of chugging, when I think to do so. When you're all sweaty/hot it's annoying to take microsips.
  18. The thing is, I don't know him personally. My coworker's niece and her brother both had the surgery (the niece in February of this year and the brother when I had mine). I told her to pass along the info for this group a few times and that they could also add me on Facebook if they wanted, but neither had. I give her my "I don't like this" BariatricPal food (LOL) and protein mixes to pass along to them all the time.
  19. There's so many what-ifs. It is really hard to sit back and just watch this kind of thing happen... when it is totally preventable. I'm always a sucker for taking in "projects" and trying to "fix" them. His family is just like whateverrrrrrr it seems and it's kinda' infuriating. I don't know. He is SUPPOSED to have a 12 month appointment the same time as me so I guess they will see him then, if he goes. If he makes it another 2 months.
  20. I am just going to feel terrible when he dies. Because he is. Truly. He doesn't eat. He is drinking with an actively bleeding ulcer. At least if he could start getting in some nutrition that would be something. This is just terrible.... =[
  21. So, my coworker's brother had gastric bypass a few days after I did. Same office, different surgeon. This was 10 months ago almost. He is STILL not eating solid foods. He tried eating a few things, but he got sick, so now he has a food aversion and only eats jello and yogurt. On top of that, he has become an alcoholic. He had blood in his stool and a local doctor thought it was his colon, but then he woke up one night covered in blood. He went to the local hospital (not the one where our surgeon's are), and lost 3 pints of blood due to a bleeding ulcer in his pouch. He drinks a bottle of whiskey a day and also drinks beer. He looks GREY. He has lost nearly 300lbs in the last 10 months alone. He has not told our bariatric clinic about any of this. They don't know about the ulcer, or his drinking, or that he still isn't eating solid food. He is literally going to die. His family hasn't contacted the bariatric clinic either. I don't know this guy - only what my coworker has shared. She says that every day he tells her he regrets what he has done, but is ashamed to contact the bariatric surgeon because they are going to tell him to stop drinking and he doesn't want to. His family has been unable to get him to see anyone about the drinking. Should I make a call to my bariatric office and just be like "hey, I know you can't confirm or deny that this guy is a patient but so and so had surgery on this date with this doctor and this has happened... maybe just make a call to him as a casual "checkup"" in hopes that that will trigger him opening up to get help?
  22. I lost about 40% of my hair. Started at 3 weeks post-op and stopped at about 7 months post-op. It'll stop and come back. It looked super thin and stringy but it's the least annoying of all the possible complications/side effects, trust. lol. I have full bangs so they looked ridiculous with only a few strands for a while. LOL
  23. LOVIN ALL THE TOE BEANZ
  24. Noooo just spit into a paper towel for a bit. Blah.
