Hi everyone! I really enjoy reading about everyone's victories! Thanks for sharing. My NSV happened on New Year's Eve. We had some friends over and we decided to go sliding. Not only could I fit in the plastic sled, but I was able to walk up the hill without slowing down or huffing and puffing! What a great feeling!

Donated three yard-size bags of clothes to G-dub and donated 10 suits to an interviewing/back to work nonprofit.

I had gastric bypass surgery on 12/17 and the first change I noticed was my watch band felt loose. It’s one notch tighter now. I can also see changes in my face. I decided to take a weekly photo to document the changes in my face. It’s crazy!

I cleaned out the closet and have a full Pampered Chef box of clothes and today I will be cleaning out the dresser. I also have a separate bag of tops for my sister in law who is larger.

I went to my orthopedic doctor today and he is very pleased with my success and will put off knee replacement surgery as long as shots continue to do good for me.

scale victory wise I started out at 380 and as of this morning I am at 304. Surgery was on 9/26/18

Had my gastric sleeve on 12/20 and so far the one shirt I use to cram my body into is super loose now and you can even tell how stretched out it is from me trying to make it work prior to surgery.

2 months post op. Down 81 pounds.
I tried the insurance route 3 times and all 3 times the ins.co would pull the no bariatric rider at the last minute. I paid out of pocket for mine, $13k. I gave them a check on 10/01 and was on the table 10/15. Dr required 2 visits. One was a “physical” more or less and the other was a sales pitch, the next day he was playing with my innards.
    10/15 the day of surgery i was 381, 12/15 I’m 300.
do what your dr says and the procedure will work.
Water is critical, lots of Protein, as few carbs as possible. I try to stay under 1000 calories and 20 carbs a day, and I’m usually able to do that the key is reading labels. meat has few/no carbs- cook it simply and it’s perfect. sauces and seasonings are the devil. I use a lot of garlic, salt, pepper and rosemary. And I grill everything beef, bird, fish... everything
Dont graze eat. Figure out what you can “hold” and then only put 75% on your plate.
i guess I got lucky- I have had ZERO complications post op. No bleeding, no dumping, no major pain, nothing. I went back to work after a week off... I was bored silly sitting at home that week
I live and die by my 30oz yeti. I drink 3 cups plus a day. One before lunch, one before dinner, one before bed. Sometime I shoot some MIO or lemon in it. Somedays I have unsweet tea. I’ve been able to keep the soda and alcohol monsters away, but somedays I’d kill for a ginger ale
Pouches of tuna and salmon and chicken are easy to carry in the car or work bag.
A little thing I do is when I’m on dinner duty, I hit the free sample display at the deli. One cube of meat, one of cheese and I’m half full, keeps me from over indulging with actual dinner
for a sweet treat, sugar free popcicles are just sweet enough to do the trick. Atkins has some good low carb/high protein bars. One thing I learned is the more you pay, the better they are.
Exercise is difficult for me due to the nature of my work- I’m on a seagoing tugboat 9 months a year. So the whole boat is my gym- everything is 100 pounds or more, it’s difficult to get the cardio in though- you can walk only so many laps around my 150’ steel island.

Hi everyone, I just weighed in on my 5-week post op and lost 18 lbs from surgery day and 28 lbs from pre op diet. I am beyond happy, I had a long stall and finally lost 4 pounds in 6 days! I started this journey with a BMI of 43 and am now in the 38 range which is huge for me. I know is not a lot but I feel way better than I was before...I was depressed, hiding from my friends, feeling a lot of pain on feet and lower back and now I barely feel any pain at all, plus I now am more confident in going out with friends and family...I have tons of energy and am working out every day for 45-60 min. This surgery really brought me back to life. I am also very grateful for this community you guys help me on a daily basis with encouragement and just reminding myself why I am doing this! Thanks and have a wonderful day!

I’m officially at the 6 week mark today. I have lost 33 lbs & 18.25% of my excess body weight.
I feel good about the progress. I’m happy about it but it’s hard to be overjoyed. I lost 100+ lbs with the band and I remember feeling so good and being so ecstatic about every goal. I maintained that weight loss for a long time but gained it back in the last year when my band had to be removed.
It’s an odd feeling because this larger body doesn’t even seem like mine. I think that’s the opposite feeling that a lot of wls paitents feel. Usually it takes a while to accept the new smaller body.
I’m not beating myself up or thinking negative thoughts. It’s just so different from my last wls journey, ya know?

Not a very good bedside manner! You are not a failure! Remember, this is your journey. You can't control what people say, you can only control how you react.

Its funny, my therapist asked me how much I'd lost and I didn't know what to say - I have a spreadsheet with 3 totals: Total from my high weight, total from the day I started the pre-surgery diet, and total from surgery day. :)

New here. Sleeved on 10/29. Hit 40 pounds down as of this morning and it all feels a little unreal. I keep waiting for it to stop like it always did in the past!! Loved having a group like this when I was expecting my kids, so this should be fun. Looking forward to it.

I'm not sure if one post on four topics is more annoying, or if four posts would be more annoying. Sorry if I guessed wrong. I'm not checking this site quite as often, now, and when I do come in, I mostly only ever look at this thread, to see how my October surgery friends are doing.
Carbs: I wouldn't say it's exactly the whole truth that we "can't have bread or rice," as a blanket statement. Like, no, not right now -- at least not unless your team said toast was OK, as some do. But long term, yeah, most of us will probably reintroduce whole grain bread and brown rice in small amounts. Some people might choose not to, but that's a personal choice, not a rule we all have to follow. Some plans (Kaiser, for instance) have people eating mashed potatoes now, so the "no carbs" thing is just one school of thought that some of the veterans on this site (and probably some nutritionists who are really into keto) push, but it is by no means a universal bariatric surgery rule.
Liquid: This wouldn't have worked for me right after surgery, but as soon as I was able to take normal-size drinks (as opposed to those super careful small sips immediately after surgery), I went back to using my favorite mugs with hot beverages that I really enjoy (decaf hot teas, Decaf coffee). One is 20 ounces, and the other is 24 ounces, so I only have to drink three mugfuls per day to get to 64 oz. I find it a lot easier to get to my goal because it feels manageable ("three mugfuls" combined with "I like this beverage") than if I'm using smaller cups or forcing down plain Water (which hurts, sometimes). Pre-op, I did the same thing with water bottles, sometimes with Mio or something in them, sometimes with cold herbal teas, sometimes plain. That's probably what I'll do next summer, when hot beverages are less appealing. 😁 I kind of expect my sleeve to be more consistently OK with water by then, too.
Goals: Did your teams give you weight loss goals? Mine didn't, for which I'm grateful, though I know the average for the sleeve is 60% excess weight lost. (Take your weight on surgery day. Find your ideal weight--I use one of the higher numbers, since I've always been heavy and will have more bone structure to support that than someone who spent most of their life thin. Subtract your ideal weight from your surgery weight. That is your excess weight. Multiply that by .6 to get 60%, and subtract that number from your surgery day weight. That is how much you can reasonably expect to lose and keep off, long-term--but it's just an average: some people do better, and some do worse.) So I've got that number in a spreadsheet, a year out from my surgery, and I'm tracking my progress once a week to see if I'm on track for that, with a little chart that shows how I'm losing extra fast right now, even with stalls. (To be clear: not everyone gets there in 12 months, and I don't fully expect to, since I'm battling arthritis, which limits my activity a bit. Many people lose for the first 18 months or so--faster in the beginning, slower toward the 18 month mark. Weight loss tends to be about done, at that point, unless you are really working hard, either athletically or with an extra restrictive diet.)
Motivation: I see people lamenting stalls. I wonder if the weight loss chart would help you? Because I had a week and a half stall, and I could still see clearly that my weight loss line was below a straight one year line to the average goal weight for where I started. Also, for your mental health, please stop weighing yourself daily if you are the kind of person who will be upset by a stall. Also, if you haven't already, take measurements. How many inches around is your calf at its largest point? Your thigh? Your hips? Your waist? Your neck? Your upper arm? Write all that down. When you hit a stall, pull out the measuring tape. Seeing those differences will help you see that you're still making progress. ❤️
