  1. Thank you all for your prayers for my father and family. Dad is doing much better. He still remains in the hospital. His Dr. is very concerned about a infection in the fistula. It is a very vital part of his body for him. Due to the amount of people who were attempting to stop the bleeding Dr Kennedy feels he needs to keep a very close eye on him. I spent the afternoon with him today. He was in a very good mood and sitting him his wheelchair. He was moved out of ICU too the medical floor, so we have to be sure that one of us is always with him. Due to him being a quadriplegic and 71 yrs old. The nurses at times seem to think he can do for him self. He can when he is not laying in the bed. He is very picky about who transfers him,the only person that he will allow is my mom or his brother. My dad is 6'3 and my mom is 5'2 but together it balances out great for her to due standing transfers. The last time the nurses tried transferring him they dropped him on the floor. Now that he has had his leg amputated he knows that it is much harder to do. I just want to say thanks for the support that you all shared my way with the time in need. When it was time for my surgery my dad was in ICU and had just had his leg amputated, all he wanted was for me to have the surgery. The support I received from my lab band Friends was unbelievable. I pray each night for my lap band friends and that God lays his hands on all those in need. Thank you all so much ! DeAnn

  2. Hello May Band Friends,

I was banded on May 4th in Federal Way Washington by Dr. Srikanth. I am doing great! I did have a bit of a set back on Week 1 post-op Mother's Day weekend. I was hosting the family at my house and was busy getting things ready, like , Pulling weeds, cleaning the patio, gathering the spring dishes from the cupboard when I pulled the muscle that the port is attached to. BOY did that hurt. I have doing great with my Water, exercises, and NO sugar. I exercise 30-60 min each day. I always try to have my water down by 4 PM. I do my Protein Drinks one in the AM and one in the PM. I mix the powder with 2 oz of water and it is thick so it stays and absorbs better. I have not missed a day of multi-vitamins, Calcium, Vitamins D,C, effoxor, Iron. oh and don't forget the DOS stool softener. I have lost 24 lbs since I had surgery. I get to start mushie food on Friday. I am a little nervous. I am not even sure what I want to eat first. Any ideas? Through this whole thing I have been stressed with my dad being in the hospital. He has spent most of the last 5 months in and out. He has lost his leg. Has had septia poisoning, had his fistula rupture and lost three pints of blood, and has had two emergency surgery. I feel like I'm doing pretty good. I know the Lord has his hand on him and the family I'm sure with out our faith we would be all going crazy! I can't tell you how much I have appreciated the support from my friends here on lap band talk. The power here is great! I look forward to continuing the journey of our weight losses all together.

PS. Dad may get to come home Saturday! Praise GOD!!!

  3. Michelle, I had the most vivid dreams when on the vicadin. I now take the extra-strength Tylenol I think it works better. It knocks me out like anything. It really helps with my pulled muscle. Hope you are feeling better as the days go on. Take care and remember always follow what the Dr. says even if you feel great! ( you know what I did still hurts) Off to make some homemade soup!

  4. Congrats to the new bander's! I was banded on May 4th in Washington St. I have been doing really well. I"m still on liquids till next Friday. I am still suffering with gas pains. I am thinking now they are coming from the Vitamins or Protein Drink. Jim my port area was a lot of colors too it was bruising. But if you have any concern you should contact your Dr. Never let anything go. Just a reminder to you all! Follow what the Dr's orders. I thought I was doing so well and went out side a week post op and was helping in the yard pulling some weeds and ended up pulling the muscle that the port is attached to..I'm still dealing with that. ! when he says no pulling pushing lifting I now learned a painful lesson. Today marks a great day for me I am no longer in the 300's thats a number I am so glad not to see again on the scale. I wish you all the best of luck!

Keep up the good work. See you on the down side of you journey

  5. I have a story that is similar. I was at the local safeway , was in line to check out when a little girl in the basket ahead of me said to her mommy " look mommy there is a fat lady" and the mother replied "your right! how many more can you count!" I Looked a that woman and said " is that any way to raise a child you should be ashamed of yourself" The lady looked at me pick up her daughter and left. Leaving the full basket. The little girl was crying and saying" mommy but that was a nice lady" I felt so sorry for the little girl and wanted to rip that mother a new one!

  6. Please keep my Dad ( tom ) and Mom (Jan) in your prayers today. I just received a called that my dad will be going back in to surgery in a few hrs to have his fistula redone again. Mom is getting very weary and I am really getting worried about her. He has a blockage and they can not do dialysis. I will be thinking of you all as we continue to pray for all our families and Friends.

This has been a rough road for him the past 6 months with this being the 5th time in ICU no more than a four week period that he has been home. this was at 8:30 AM

OK I forgot to send this off this AM as I left in a hurry! Dad is doing OK. He had to have the fistula revised again. This was done on Wednesday also. Wednesday morning it ruptured and he lost 3 pints of blood. I saw him for a bit today while he was at dialysis he was very sleepy. They took him from recovery to the clinic to run ( dialysis for 4 hrs. ) so We came home by the time he gets out it will be 6 PM and we can not see him from 7-8 as they change staffing and have staff meetings. Mom was heading out to check him at 6.

Our hope and prayers are that all goes well! he gets rest. Mom gets rest. ( us too) and the hand that heals all is placed upon them.

  7. Drewslou, I will definitely keep your hubby and family in our prayers. I know where you are coming from. My father has been a quadriplegic for the past 40 years. I was six when he broke his neck in a diving accident. He is in ICU right now. On Wednesday his fistula (sp) for dialysis ruptured and he lost 3 pints of blood had to go in and have surgery to reconstruct the artery. I know the health issues with Quads & para. Keep up the faith and god is always at your side. Please keep me updated on his progress.

    God Bless, DeAnn

  8. Hi Fishy, I live in Graham ! I was banded May 4th. I went to Surgical weight Loss center in Tacoma. My Doctor is Dr. Srikanth ,The surgery was done at St Francis Hospital in Federal Way. I am doing good. I still am suffering from gas pains but can deal with them! I attend the weight loss support groups at St. Joesph in Tacoma they meet the 1 & 3 Mondays of each month. I also go to the Surgical weight loss Center support group that meets at the La Quinta Inn. It is in Tacoma off I-5 on the first Wednesday of each month. Do you have a follow up Dr. set up. I hear it is a really good idea to have that all done before you have your band done. You may call the Surgical Weight loss center as they work with patients having it done in Mexico. I was self pay also. I choose to stay here and have it done. I just really liked Dr. Srikanth and felt very comfortable with him.

I wish you the best of luck in your new journey. You are going to do great!

Soon it will be Gone For Good!

    DeAnn

  9. Been there....still there...Banded May 4th and still experiencing gas pains I would suggest WALKING WALKING WALKING and Gas X tablets that are fast dissolving. they do have new strips too. I was not good and pulled the muscle my port is in, so I've been down for a week. It hurts. Good luck and keep walking it really does work!

  10. These are the best! we made them a last month when we were on a camp out with my husbands company. Now we are going to make them for our Memorial weekend camp out with the family. We used a big Turkey cooker ( deep fryer ) and boiled the Water in it outside and I want to say we had near twenty bags in it at one time ! It was GREAT!!!! Remember to always use freezer bags! They said the first time they did baggies and it was a mess.... Just a FYI

  11. Rockinrobyn, congrats on being banded. I too was banded @ St. Francis hospital in Federal way, WA. May 4th. Hope all is going well. I am feeling so much better today! welcome to bandland! and you band journey.
