My doc told me I've lost 70% of my excess body weight, so she doesn't expect me to lose much more. I'm like hell nah, I've still got 40 lbs to go!

So, I'm off the IF for now. I have started to see an internist who is guiding my nutrition and dietary guidelines. He wants me to stop the IF for now. He says once I get into the diet he wants I can still do it for its other benefits. For now he has my macros and 50% Protein, 30% fat and 20% carbs. I am very excited about this doctor. He is going to be using a machine to calculate my actual resting metabolic rate so I'll know exactly how many calories to eat!

    1. You don't meet all your nutritional needs that day. I choose to focus on getting lots of Protein when I do eat because I do weight training. However, I only do it twice a week so I make sure I meet all my macros the other days.
    2. I take my Vitamins as usual. They don't have any calories so it doesn't break my fast
    3. I just don't overeat enough to feel uncomfortable, it's meant to be a low calorie day.

I wish I'd known about stalls. I wasn't expecting them and they're depressing but normal.

Vitamins *can* be taken whenever you can fit them in... I don't count them as a meal (I don't believe I need to be extremely rigid or a purists because I have other rules to focus on)

I try to meet my Macros but its really hard to do in an hour. I mostly just try to get in as much Protein as possible because I do weight training. I usually get about 500 calories in.

Down 10 pounds as of today. It's been just over a month. I did an OMAD Monday then another OMAD yesterday. Today will be 18 hours, then tomorrow through Sunday 16:8. (I like to eat a little more freely on the weekend). I did find out that the little bit of Creamer I was putting in my coffee raised my blood sugar like 15 points. So I tried some sugar free and measured a TBSP, that had no effect on my sugar. Most of the doctors I follow say anything less than 50 calories won't break your fast.

Okay so thats what I would’ve guessed.
I seriously might try OMAD Saturday because it’s going to be busy busy in the daytime, but hubs and I are grilling out and making food for the kids (adult kids who can be bribed to come visit with food offerings) and settling in for a rare weekend off for the two of us to veg in the evening and watch some football
For some reason, OMAD appeals to me in a situation like this because I can once again partake in the experience of the meal.
I’m thinking I’m going to set aside 2 hours for eating and seeing what happens.

I, too, have found fasting to be really empowering. You learn that true hunger really only lasts a short time and then passes. Learning this takes away the urgent need for immediate gratification - like really! Our bodies are actually going to shrivel up and die in 30 minutes if we don't eat??? I've found that it gives me a much better awareness of true hunger vs head hunger. I think it's great to have these extra tools in the toolbox.

I had a similar surgery date and starting weight. First: when have you ever lost 100 pounds?!! That's amazing! Be proud for how far you have come. I was losing and gaining the same 3 pounds for like a month then I started IF and I have lost about 7. However, my doctor told me not to expect to lose much more because I have already beat the expectation of 70% of excess weight lost. I am still trying to reach my goal though. With that said, the surgery is just a tool. We still have to learn how to be healthy! Are you tracking calories and macros? getting enough Protein and Water?

GB in CA reacted to Chel1 in 2 Years AFTER Bariatric Surgery - Insight & Encouragement
    Hi ALL!
I haven't posted in some time due to life has been crazy busy in a good way. It has been 2 years since my surgery! When I finally got to my 200lb mark (after 1 year which was 81 pounds down ) the doctors & staff were ecstatic and they were comfortable with that progress and me maintaining that weight. Well, I wasn't settling for that goal because I had/have my own personal goals.
In 2018 I had to have emergency gall bladder removal which caused me to tweak my diet even more. I was determined to get to my "first" goal weight of 150lbs. I am happy to say I only have 18 more pounds to go!
What do I do? I continue to follow a healthy lifestyle of diet and exercise. I work out about 5 days a week and I am a black card member at Planet Fitness. I still follow the drink wait 15 mins to eat or eat wait 30 mins to drink rule. I call it the 15/30. Some think weight loss surgery is one's way of a "quick fix", well, I'm here to tell anyone that statement is far from the truth because I have worked hard over the past 2 years to get to this point and I will continue to grind at it until I reach my 1st goal weight of 150lbs and will strive to reach my ultimate weight of 130. I know I can do it and if I fall somewhere in the middle between the two well then, I guess I will just Celebrate that too.

When I initially met with the surgeon I told him I will do the work and meet my goal. He said, "Everyone says that initially and most don't follow through". I said that day that I will prove him wrong. When I went back later after surgery I brought that conversation back up to him and I told him to not make general statements to me because my mindset and determination is mine and no one else's. He apologizes and told me that I was right. ( I don't entertain negative statements nor allow others to make negative comments concerning my health & wellness. I don't allow negativity nor negative energy in my space. It doesn't matter who it is they have to go)

What people say and feel about your journey means nothing. What are you determined to do to reach your goals?
I now have to go buy new workout clothes because my Under-Armor "stretch" pants that were tight are beginning to sag! lol In just this past 3 weeks I have lost 7lbs. I was stuck in the 70s for a long time. If you find yourself stuck don't despair, kick up the workouts and tighten up on those extra carbs and your body will eventually respond.
Continue to do the work and you will see the results. Never give up on yourself, your health, nor all the possibilities your future holds besides, your life does depend on it.
I hope this has encouraged someone and if you are considering surgery, I hope this will give you insight on the possibilities ahead.

    Many Blessings,
    Michele

I talked to my nutritionist. She has no problems with me fluctuating my Protein up and down. She just doesn't want me to suppress it every day. I only need about 45-53g of protein per day to sustain my body at my new weight. So to eat 50-55g or Protein One day and raise on other days is perfectly fine. The protein can come from "all sources"--meaning even protein in veggies count! She wants me to focus on getting protein from many sources. Yes, complete Proteins are important, but that can come from milk, yogurt, eggs as well as things like quinao/beans/lentils/soy Beans (which I got the go ahead to have a serving a day from whole sources (no isolates)) or things like hemp and chia seeds and I'm now allowed a bit of flax seed too.
I had a pre-albumin test recently and my pre-albumin was 24. Think 20 is low. But the doc was fine with it being at 24. Some days I get 90g of protein (feast days), but other days I'm more like 50-ish. I usually on days where I do a 20/4 or a 22/2, will do 1 shake (25-30g protein) + 1 meal with 4-5oz of cooked protein (meat/fish/seafood--something very dense protein per ounce--trying for 7g protein/ounce of source (weight). So if I can get 24-30g of protein in a meal + the shake, I'm gold! And right before eating closes for the night, I might still be able to get in 4oz of kefir + 2-3oz Protein Drink (love strawberries and cream flavor or peaches and cream flavor mixed with low fat kefir).
    TRE=Time Restricted Eating

Ok, maybe @Healthy_life2 will step in and help you with this. She runs marathons! And has a huge routine down that is very specific for her work out schedule. She's awesome sauce!!! Congrats on the triathlon next month!!! Wooooot!!!! I hear ya on the urgency stuff when you cut down via TRE (time restricted eating)--especially during a race! Wow! That would be unpleasant!!

@FluffyChix Do you do low Protein One day, then load up the next? I just worry about doing the low day because out nutritionists really drill that Protein intake into your head

I think 18:6 has really helped me. It boosted me past a stall, and now is maintaining my goal weight. There is something very significant about the fasting period. I try to do most of my exercises during the fasting time, which supposedly boosts the fat burning. But the limited eating window really helps curb the total caloric intake. There have been days lately where I have really "blown it" with my eating plan. I still eat only healthy, non processed foods, but I seems to be hungrier and needing more calories. But....... my weight is still remaining a few pounds below goal, and I think IF is the tool that is helping that.
When I hit a stall a while ago, I added alternate day IF (500 cal one day, 1,ooo the next) and it really knocked off the pounds like magic. Got me to goal.
the next layer is to fast 24 hours one day a week.
The final layer is a 72 hour fast maybe every month. So there are lots of IF tools to use and it really helps take the anxiety out of maintanence. I fear losing control and regaining, but these IF tools give me confidence that things will go well and I will be able to maintain.

I know I said I wouldn't worry so much about the scale, but I'm curious. Does anyone lose weight with 16:8 fasts? I only lose at 24+ hours

Same. I had RNY soon after you (11/6) and I've tried a bunch of veggies, fresh sourdough (which is supposed to be easier to digest, but still), Carba Nada Pasta (high Protein, lower carb), etc, and no issues. Like you, I haven't gone wild and tried to eat cake or anything, so maybe sugar or super friend food might, but so far, so good.
Also, because this group tends to get a wee curious, I should add the sourdough was from a local bakery, and actually had spent grain added to it. Spent grain (leftovers from beer making) is actually awesome in bread, because most of the starches are used up by the beer brewing, and what's left is Fiber and protein. BONUS!
