  1. Yes! I just eat out of a much smaller bowl and quit the clean plate club. I've made a lot of substitutions, like sashimi instead of sushi and cauliflower instead of potatoes, low carb Pasta, etc. but I count my calories and can still have the occasional treat. I'm just as happy with two tater tots as I used to be with a serving. The first couple bites are the best anyway.

I'm one year out of my VSG surgery. I have GERD really bad. NO meds have helped. I also feel like food gets stuck in my throat. My doc has set me up for an EGD. Depending on the results, he said we would probably revise my sleeve to a bypass. What is the success like? I have gained 30 lbs. back. I am so embarrassed. Will the bypass help me get more weight off??

My male friend started at 500 lbs. and lost 100 with the sleeve. He has a serious eating disorder he has tried to get help for for years. When he stopped losing at 400 he got a revision to the bypass and has lost another 100 lbs. He really needed something where he could not binge like he used to.

I think you should do it for the GERD and it's likely you may lose more depending on your habits.

  3. II have depression/GAD. I can't take SSRIs due to side effects. I take Nefazodone and did take Xanax XR. I had to switch from Xanax XR to regular and I have trouble staying asleep all night. Overall the transition has been fine and has not affected my weight.

This is why I picked Nefazodone over the many more modern options. "Unlike the SSRI antidepressants, nefazodone associated with minimal weight gain and minimal sexual side effects."

@NikkiOwl Buspar just made me sleepy.

  4. This is somewhat hilarious but I thought none of my hair fell out. I thought it was because I ate a lot of Protein and relatively, a higher number of calories. My hairdresser finally broke it to me that that’s when she told me I was so thin I should try short hair and cut my long hair into a bob. I never even noticed! So what you need is a good hairdresser who is cool and also a good liar.

I started using edibles about 9 months ago to replace the alcohol “vice.” I have a fatty liver and although have never been a heavy drinker, it gave me the incentive to just stay away from alcohol altogether, and gave me an “excuse” to not drink even socially. I found that the high from marijuana was much preferred over the intoxication from drinking, you can be totally chill but still have control over your actions. The problem with marijuana is I get the munchies really bad and have no control in that area. I am afraid to do edibles or vape post op for fear that I would not overeat again. I’m only 9 days out so my new habits need to be more solidified before getting high again ... thoughts?

https://www.leafly.com has reviews. You can see what strains cause the munchies aka are good for chemo patients, for example, and what strains aren't.

  6. It's really hard to lose the weight when you're stuck at home and don't use the calories you normally use running around all day. I've gained a few pounds. I do Pilates and run most every day. But I agree, the struggle can be very hard. If anyone is about to tell me to work on my food addiction, save it.

  7. The restriction for people with the sleeve varies a lot. Some people have trouble eating, some never feel it. Some get full a lot faster, and it completely goes away for some people. So I think the sleeve is still there (no way to put stomach back) but the restriction isn't felt.

Honestly it’s not about the actual number I’m just afraid to stop losing since it’s a slower process and I’m the one stopping myself after 2-3 bites. And I wish I could tell my family to leave me the hell alone but how can I when they are right? I did fail😔 I have 2 beautiful children from it but to ballon back after I’ve tasted the glory is so depressing.

I HAVE. IT CAN BE DONE.

I recommend therapy. It's really none of their business, and if you can't tell them to drop it or you're leaving the room, please get help!

  9. @ms.sss, I've been feeling a lot better. These were my doctor's notes from a telemedicine visit, which is remarkably similar to what my doctor friends told me.

    "Vasovagal syncope
She reports a few syncopal events always in the morning when she was getting up out of bed. I suspect this is related to low blood pressure that is secondary to rapid weight loss and a lowering of blood pressure overall that her body has may be not adjusted to. I recommend she increase the salt in her diet. She is also check blood work to make sure she is not anemic already drinking plenty of fluids. I also recommend compression stockings to be put on in the morning. I recommend she get up very slowly from bed. If this persists despite the measures as discussed above I recommend she will need a cardiology visit with EKG and echocardiogram and potential Holter monitor."

  10. With the sleeve. there are slider foods that you can eat quite a lot of because they don't sit in your sleeve. Ice cream, milk shakes, pie, cheese, get the idea? You will still get hungry, probably. It's like being on a diet for the rest of your life, I just fill up much more easily and try to avoid slider foods and sugar, so it's easier to stay on the diet.

  11. @JRT Mom, "quarantined" and "under a stay at home order" are being used pretty exchangeably. I've been under a stay at home order for about two months. I can leave for the grocery store, drug store, to take walks, for emergencies, and that's about it.

The things that help me are calorie tracking, exercising, planned Zoom get-togethers with my friends or volunteer groups, and walking my dogs outside. Maintaining my weight loss has been very challenging.

  12. Yes, I've been on them for many years. I take Xanax for anxiety nightly. You can go into withdrawl and even die if you go cold turkey when you've been taking it as long as I have, so my surgeon had them add some to my IV when I was in the hospital, I take Nefazodone for depression and was able to swallow the pill the day after surgery.
