  1. I agree it would help with weight loss. Every diet I had been on pre-surgery fell apart when I stopped logging my food and drinking lots of water. That's a must for me, I know some people don't need to log.
  2. Have you tried talking to your surgeon's office? There are patches and chewables, but I wouldn't use them without talking to my surgeon's office. I take mine in a small glass of tomato juice or other thick liquid like a protein shake in the morning. I would think taking it during breakfast would be easiest. I used to take my iron at night and it did NOT make me feel good, so I moved everything but calcium to the morning.

    Avoiding dehydration

I find uncarbonated Hint water easier to drink than tap water. Wegmans just started making their own version, Wegmans Wonder Water. It's less expensive. It comes in 16 oz. bottles so my goal is to drink 4 a day.
  4. I can eat anything but I’ve chosen not to have bread, pasta, anything fried, or with a lot of fat or sugar. If I do eat a small roll, like at a restaurant, I’ll be totally full. Which kind of ruins the rest of dinner.

Now when I see MO people...

Something to look forward to... I was looking at my online medical record though my medical system where it lists my medical issues and obese was one of them. I clicked on it and emailed them back that my BMI was 28 and they took it off.

Now when I see MO people...

If someone is MO and asks me how I lost weight, I tell them I had WLS and that I'm happy to talk to them about it if they want to. My doctor suggested the surgery to me and I was extremely against it until a couple of my close friends and my massage therapist all had it with good outcomes. After talking to them a lot, I finally decided to do it. And I've been VERY happy with the decision.

How many calories do you eat a day?

@claricey, you didn't ask me, but I get a lot of protein. Breakfast: 1 scrambled egg, a slice turkey bacon, half a cup of coffee with fat-free milk, a small glass of tomato juice (to take my pills) Lunch: Healthy Choice Power Bowl, or a salad with no dressing and salmon or chicken on top if I go out. Dinner: 5 oz. fish, half a cup of veggies Snack options if I get hungry: Banana, yogurt, quarter cup mixed nuts Water: 64 oz. Almost every meal and snack is built around protein. I was stalled out and just decreased my calories to 800 and started losing again, which means skipping the snacks. But In my first six months, I broke some stalls by eating more. Increasing or decreasing by 100 calories a day for a week isn't going to hurt anything, I don't think.

    Beginning of diet

I like the Premier Protein shakes. My plan was 2 shakes and a Lean Cuisine type frozen diet meal for dinner. If we got too hungry we could do 1 shake and 2 frozen meals. I did the 1 shake and 2 frozen meals for my prep and my liver was fine.
  11. Both in regular diets and after bariatric surgery it has slowed down quite a bit. If I were to increase exercise and cut calories now it may make a difference.

Six months post-op+ : The Sophomores Thread

I think Fledge is awesome and spot on. I haven't lost many lbs. in the last month but I've gone from size 18 jeans to size 14 jeans and I care about being smaller a lot more than about a number on a scale. For me, clothes sizes are the easiest way to tell I'm still losing fat, whether the scale moves much or not.

Sorry, here you go. Cancel anything you don't want to do. Canceling things is the best. https://www.americanboardcosmeticsurgery.org/are-cosmetic-surgeons-who-charge-a-consult-fee-better-than-those-who-dont/

I had a lot of thoughts about this when you posted in, namely that the doctors who charge are shysters, so I did some reading. There are very valid reasons to charge. One is that you won't feel pressured to get work done since you have paid them for their time. Now I think it's pretty neutral. There are good reasons to charge and not to charge. I learned a lot from this article.

    NSV's Spring 2019 Edition

I have a bunch of pairs of NYDJ left from when I lost weight on Phentermine in 2012. Pre-surgery I was wearing a 22W. Today I fit into 14s! The smallest I HAVE, and I thought I was thin at the time, are 12s. Guess if I keep losting I will be needing some smaller jeans!

Foodies - honestly how bad is it?

I like to eat out a lot. My husband was very concerned about me having the surgery because he thought he would miss our date nights. I got the gastric sleeve nine months ago. I am still in losing mode and I eat about 1,000 calories a day. I track calories, protein, carbs, and water. I am also one of the very lucky ones. No complications, no dumping, etc. I'm losing a bit slowly, in part, because I'm in perimenopause. The good news is I can eat all the foods I could before, just in much smaller quantities. I didn't drink soda before and still don't. I liked to drink alcohol before, I have cranked that way back to a special treat. I don't order dessert and rarely even feel like trying a bite. Probably the biggest change is if bread gets put on the table, I don't eat it. If I ate it, I would be about full and the show would be over. I can eat about 5 ounces and I know I need protein to function so one of my go-to's is raw fish. I eat a lot of sashimi, tuna tartare, oysters, shrimp cocktail, lobster cocktail, etc. These seem like some of the healthiest, tastiest foods to me now. I've figured out foods I can order at ethnic restaurants like Chicken Satay at Thai places. I usually order a salad with protein on it or an appetizer. So far, it's working out fine. I do have to reassure waiters/waitresses a lot that everything was good because I didn't eat much, but I take it home and either eat it the next day or give it to the doggos.
  17. I don't consider trying to help someone as "bashing." You may have a different opinion, but there's no need for hostility.

    Dating websites

Oh, I found ALL the reasons... It is estimated that about 20% of eharmony applicants are rejected. In 2007, eharmony stated since the site's launch, they had rejected about a million people who applied to use the service. They reported that about 30% of those applicants were denied because they were already married, 27% were younger than the minimum application age of 21, and 9% provided inconsistent answers on the application. Eharmony also stated they reject anyone under the age of 60 who has been married more than four times, or who fails their "dysthymia scale", testing as having a depressed disposition.

    Dating websites

EHarmony has a right wing, Christian owner and has banned LGBT users. Not suggesting that’s why they banned you, but good to know if you have opinions on the topic.
  20. I started getting much more serious with firming cream. I use Silk Therapeutics. It’s expensive, but it seems to help.
  21. Have you had an MRI? It sounds like the herniated discs are making your back hurt, not the surgery? Does that sound right? I have degenerative disc disease and part of why I got the surgery was to take some of the weight off to help my back feel better. PT, dry needling, and Tramadol all help me.
  22. Phentermine can't be taken for long periods of time. As soon as you stop taking it, your hunger will come back with a vengeance. I lost 80 lbs. on it before surgery and when I had gained 70 back... I finally started thinking about surgery. Some doctors, who I consider good and smart, won't even prescribe it anymore, because you're just setting yourself up to fail.

    Meh to the scale now?

Last time I had a major weight loss I landed at 175 and couldn't get any lower so I picked that. But I'm bigger now than I was then due to a back injury that keeps me from doing interval training like I used to. But I also feel like I could slowly slide down to 150 now... the only thing that would concern me is if I started gaining more than a couple of pounds. My doctor thinks 175 is fine, 150 is fine, it's all good.

    Not telling anyone

I'm surprised I don't get more questions. Lots of people have made positive comments about my weight loss, but very few have asked how. I think if you're fat, most people think you should be dieting and exercising and that is enough to lose weight.
