  1. I went into the office 3 days post op for just a couple hours to check email and make sure nothing was going crazy. Then 1 week post op I worked half days, 2 weeks post op I worked 6 hour days, the plan was to work full days three weeks post op, but got an ulcer and was unable to keep anything down. It depends solely on the type of work you do. I wasn’t sore, but getting fluids in has been practically a full time job for me and if I am distracted by work, I won’t drink like I should. If you can work short days I recommend it. It allowed me to not go stir crazy at home, not use a ton of PTO, etc

    Hey , everyone

I am 10 days Post op. The day after surgery I noticed two little red spots in my belly next to my incisions, I didn't make anything of it cause they were not bothering me .

But as the days have gone by , I have rash like spots all over my body . I had read in my discharged paper from hospital ( to go ER or contact doctor if i developed a rash).

They don't itch or burn anything like that , the rash is just there. Has anybody have experience something like this? I am devating if i should go to the ER or just wait till Monday to call my surgeon? Ohhh..... forgot to mention my diet is pure liquid. broth vaggie, Clear Protein, Water, Jello. So it cant be food allergies.

YES!! This exact same thing happened to me. I was told it was either an allergic reaction to 1) the carafate u was taking 2) the surgical glue or 3) the sutures. I took some liquid Benadryl and stopped taking the carafate and it went away. Now, I am not sure which of those were the culprit (if any), but it was definitely weird. I suggest following your docs instructions. Better safe than sorry.

**clearly I didn’t read the whole thread before I responded 😒. Glad you are A-ok.

  3. I feel like the only plus size girl to never had boobs. I started at a 52B.. maybe an A, but just wore bralettes because no one really makes a comfortable big band, small cup bra. I did have to go get new brawlettes though because I lost 3 inches in my band size, and bust measurement, since surgery.

Damn sorry that this is happening to you.

Since fall is rolling around there will be great Soup everywhere. I hope that helps ease your mind about extended liquids.

Biggest bonus of all, you are going to lose a ton more than normal because stalls usually happens when you switch to solids.

Chin up. Don't let your crown fall.

Thank you! Yeah, the extra weight loss will be a bonus, just a little bummed, but it’s all a process, right?

  5. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with a gastric ulcer post op? I’m three and a half weeks post op VSG and I’ve had really bad nausea starting this past Saturday. I was also unable to keep much of anything down. Finally got in to see my surgeon yesterday and also had a barium swallow test, blood test, And B1 injection. The barium swallow test showed that everything is fine structurally, but they did suspect a gastric ulcer. My surgeon made a call and got me into a gastroenterologist office to have an H. Pylori test. That came back negative, so we are treating like it is an ulcer. Back on carafate and two different PPIs. The NP called today to tell me my labs looked normal but they I’m going to need to go back to full liquids while this heals, which could be 4-5 weeks. That was really disheartening to hear because full liquids was really difficult for me and I’m just a few days from eating a “semi-normal” diet.

Just to clarify, this isn’t necessarily a complication from the VSG, I understand that. I could have developed it regardless... just wanted to see if anyone else has gone through it.

  6. Yes!!!! It took me Eight years post gallbladder surgery to find an answer to my post gallbladder bile diarrhea. Mostly because it hasn’t been consistent. I could go months without having any and then one day a sip of Water can send me straight to the bathroom. I was sleeved two weeks ago, and haven’t taken my cholestyramine for over a year pre op because I wasn’t having issues. I find it’s much worse for me when I’m stressed or overly tired. Also, the powder is gross, but luckily when I need it I can get by with 1/2 to 1/3 a packet. I was actually planning on asking my surgeon this week about restarting it because I’m having symptoms again post op. I was almost hoping to be constipated post op or a nice change of pace! Lol!! (Sorry, dealing with this actually put in a depression for awhile because I felt chained to my house as I never knew when it would hit so I try to find humor on it when I can)

side note- it may have actually ended up saving my life because the gastro that diagnosed me insisted on a colonoscopy (at 33) and found a significantly large pre-cancerous polyp. I ended up having four colonoscopies in 18 months and am coming up for my two year check this Spring. Point being, if I had waited until the normal age to have one, it probably wouldn’t have been precancerous anymore.

Hahaha you are the kinder gentler poster.

Mine goes more like...yep. It's hard. Super hard. The debil hard.

Now put on your big girl panties and the only way through it is through it.

It's a right of passage. You will be through it sooner than you know.

Options from @Orchids&Dragons are mix Fairlife milk FF with a spoon of yogurt, a scoop of unsweetened Protein Powder, some frozen fruit and maybe Peanut Butter powder and ice. Mix it up in the blender and if necessary strain it to get any Fiber or seeds out. Enjoy.

Same thing with Soups. Make homemade Soup, blend it, thin it down with homemade broth, strain if necessary. Enjoy.

Also, mixing Premier Protein with coffee and ice or just black coffee makes it VERY palatable. I still love both hot and iced coffee!

I disagree about premier and coffee. It’s VERY unpalatable. Appreciate the suggestion though

  8. I can’t take it. I can’t consume one more chemical food-like substance! Protein shakes... blah! The thought of them make me nauseous. Creamed Soup? Gross, SF pudding? Why? There is no nutritional value.

I’m 11 days post op. Feel fantastic! I’m getting in my Water, and I can drink normally. I’m on full liquids but all I really want is plain water. I have had some Greek yogurt, but two bites and I’m full. I’m lucky to finish the single serving container in a day.

Just frustrated I guess... I just want some cheese, chicken salad, and green Beans, lol

  9. Highest weight ever - 408, first appt with surgeon - 386, day of surgery - 368, 10 days post op - 350. I’ve lost a shirt size, pants sizes are so screwy I was wearing 28’s through 32’s that fir before surgery. Anyone else have what I lovingly call “tree trunk legs” ? I’m slightly scared I will only lose weight from the waist up (I’m a pear with very large hips). Maybe it’s irrational, and it’s not stopping me from staying on track and doing my best

  10. Had surgery Monday, took my last dose of pain meds Tuesday (they just made me more nauseous), my mom flew in for the surgery and she flew home Wednesday so I drove home from the airport Wednesday afternoon (I even stopped by work for two hours to check on a few things). It was fine. Took Thursday off, went into work for 2-3 hours Friday, had the weekend off, working 4-6 hour days this week at work.
