  1. Wow Sal,

19 lbs. That's awesome. I don't have the surgery so I am onlyspeaking from the perception of others profiles that I've read. I think each person is different.

    1. men lose faster and more efficiently then woman.

    2. You are on liquids for the most part, and that certainlyhelps.

    3. You were already a huge Water drinkers, that's certainly an added bonus

    4. Your metabolism is picking up and trying to adjust to your body going into starvation mode.

so even though you are technially getting the nurtients, its still a change from what you normally ate.

All that to say, I think it is normal and you will see fluctuation as your body adjust.

Congrats and keep up the good work.

I've had a major set back. My doc, doens't except in -network benefits, and my insurance only does innetwork. The office didn't even want to give me a referral for anothyer doc, even though, it was there oversight when I originally gave them my card. So now I don't know when I am going to be banded, and I found out I am pregnant, yesterday so that certainly didn't help...

  2. hmm...my mother in law does not make hers with tomatoes, I guess that might add some irritation to you stomach. She turkey stock by College Park and sometimes, she make a cream based turkey Soup and a broth base. Since I know that I have to give up the cream, I am trying to do the right thing now and stick with the broth's.

Turkey salad....with mayo or without mayo?

I am in to trying anything as IDK, if I can do the pre-op without having a little flavor, those Protein shakes are horrid for the most part.

If anyone else has tried liquid alternatives made from broth based Soups, please post.

  3. I guess different Doc's have different requirements and that's not the first time, I've heard of some surgeons not requiring the Pre-op. The only thing that's good about it is I guess it's preparation for what you'll really be doing after the surgery which is controlled eating anyway. I've lost about 9lbs in the last 2 weeks just by increasing my Water.

I hate water..with a passion, but I'd gained a couple of pounds during my six month and the nutritionist said, that I probably would want to lose about 10 so I don't get denied. I drink about 1.5 liters a day, which is a lil over 60 oz.....it keeps me in the bathroom but I do notice that I am not as hungry....

I am hoping that I get a late Dec date because I'm on vacation from work..and since I am not telling anyone, it'll be the perfec topportunity to not have people think I did something outside of watching what I eat. I need to lose at least 140 or 150....

    How about you?

  4. oh, and since i'm far too old to be caught up in a name calling event, didn't i read somewhere that you cheated on your pre op diet? one might think that's a form of lying, to yourself or others, but i'm not one to judge.

look, i didn't post my "story" to be judged about my methods. but i guess i opened myself up to that. so be it.

now that i think about it, i don't know why i posted it. maybe because i saw it somewhere else here.

we all have our stories and histories. we all have our reasons. and we are all here for each other.

so if you feel the need to remind me of your moral upbringing in case i forgot mine, thank you.

Hey maybe, you saw it on mine because I am not telling anyone. I finally told my cousin because I need her to drive m to the hospital. I am not even telling my husband because I don't want to hear his mouth. Quite frankly, it is your decision and screw what anybody else on here says, you don't have to tell anyone. I've read other people's opinion about who you should tell and all and at the end of the day, it is just somebody else's way of telling you what they think is right. Some I'm going to tell you what I think is right........Tell who you want and if that means no-one, then that's your decision and no one else has the right to criticize it.

  5. Dawn we have alot in comon, im 36 band date dec 13th start weight was 265 i am now 257 . i live in NJ so no nice sun here..its been cold and windy :w00t:

i just joined a gym so i can do Water workouts.

i do walk with my 13 year old. she told my Dr the last visit that she dosnt think I need this surgery..he talked to her as if she was getting it done. explained why we get the LAP-BAND® what it will do for us. she is ok with it now... I didnt tell my 21year old yet. he lives on his own and is very good friends with my x (his dad) i didnt want my x to know.. i sometimes feel bad that I havnt told him but I dont want the drama from the x... so i dont know.....i do know I CANT WAIT !!!!

    Amy:thumbup:

I also live in NJ. I don't have a date yet, but my doc said if everything is in, maybe the last week in December. Very excited. I am getting my band done at St. Barnabus by Dr. Nuasbaum and his team. :blushing:

  6. Yeah the shake thing has me all weasy...i have tried EAS, Slim fast, Atkins and they all taste like a Vitamin..LOL that makes me sick to my stomach...or left my mouth feeling gritty i know weird right...the Isopure Alpine Punch was drinkable but i couldnt drink the whole thing..im in deep doo doo come Dec 1 when i start my pre-op diet

The shakes in general are disgusting, but I think, adding some ice to them will help give it a different texture, which may be easier to digest.

  7. 1. Are you setting up one large goal and giving yourself a reward at the end? If so what is it?

    2. Are you setting up mini goals and rewarding yourself at those, like every 25 lost or 50 lost? If so what are your rewards?

I know we get to do mini shopping trips every 30 or so lbs so we have close to fit us, but beyond that, what are you rewarding yourself with?

I know once I hit my goal I am going for a tattoo, or maybe a breast lift. he he I am going to get Gargoyles on my back one cover his eyes, one covering his ears and one covering his mouth.

    So what about you?

I am likely going to do small mini goals and one huge reward at the end. I think the small mini goals are more attainable and measureable. The one large goal might be a little discouraging depending on how much you have to lose, and me at 150 that's a whole person, so I think 25lbs are my mini goals. :)

  8. My tentative date is December 9th too!! good luck to you!

I reminded myself that I am a fighter and I hate when people tell me I can't or shouldn't do something, so all this past week I have been forcing myself to drink 60 oz of Water every day. I really dislike Water so usually I can go days without it. I am already down 6 additional pounds. I am hoping I can be at 300 or close to 300 by my last visit.

I am gamed now and I was never sold on bypass anyway so if I fail, I only have myself to blame and will cross that bridge if it ever happens.

  9. My PCP is all for it but just a few days ago the surgeon's office told me he has decided to cancel my surgery date because he thinks Im also a better candidate for the bypass. At 285 I knew the Lap-band® wasn't the one he'd reccommend but he said in the seminar that he always prefers the bypass but if someone wasn't willing to get anything else he'd perform a lap-band®. I'm hoping this is just a sales pitch and I can get him to go ahead with the lap-band®. I'm only a month away and done with all the pre-req's so I know how frustrated you must feel to have gotten your hopes up! Maybe you can find another PCP that will reccommend it! Best of luck...

Thanks, I still don't know what I am going to do. For almost 6 months, I was and now I feel lost even though I wanted this before the beginning of the year.

So are you going to have the lapband or will you move forward with the bypass?

  10. When I met with the nutritionist she said that she thought I should seriously consider bypass or gastric sleeve because of the amount of weight I need to lose (about the same as you need to lose). I told her that I had given this a lot of thought and had done the research and felt very confident that I was making the right decision for me. She seemed to accept that and it hasn't been an issue...

That said, I know that I will have to work hard at this because of the amount of weight I need to lose...the Lap-Band® isn't a magic bullet but I really think that it will be the right tool for me to help change my habits. In the end, it is a personal decision that only you can make.

Thanks Vicky, your advice helps but I have been pretty bum'd about the news.

  11. Very Disappointed, I am extremely disappointed. Went to my PCP today, to discuss the Band, and she said, she would not recommend it because she thinks I need the Bypass. Her rationale was that she's seen to many patience not lose enough and that technically, at 315, I would need to loose around 150 and that's not realistic on the band. I am upset because I read so many of the success stories and it seems the norm. Maybe I'm kidding myself, but I was really excited and now that carries a heavy weight on my decision.

Has anyone else Doctor advised of this?
