    Melbourne Get Together

Hi Glad to hear it all went well!! I look forward to (hopefully) joining you in any future events... Kaysha...
  6. Hi all, I am new to the site and not sure where to put this... I was banded back in May 2004. I have lost about 55kgs and am now about 85kgs - still wanting to lose at least 15-20 kgs. I have read others posts about how slow the weight loss can be. Initially, I lost weight very slowly, then it picked up, and now it is slow again. Part of the reason for it being so slow at the moment is that I appear to have become fixated by all the foods that I CAN eat with the band but SHOULDN'T eg. chocolate, icecream, chips etc.... I went without these for AGES and it seems as though now I have tried them again I can't stop. I have had to had my band loosened recently because it was forming a "pouch" over top of the band which was causing problems. (The doctor said it was too tight - I thought it was great because it really limited my food intake....). SO, bottom line - I guess I had hoped not to revert to my "old" ways of eating and suddenly I find myself doing this (but with a slightly different kind of food..) Bottom Line?? Weight Gain. I got down to 83kgs, then went up to about 90kg, back down to 84 and now up again to 85/86 kgs. How do others cope with the cravings of the food that does actually go through the band. One think I have learned - you still need lots of willpower with a band. What do others think? Its driving me crazy!! Kaysha.:help:

Cough w/Vomit only when laying down

Hi I had a problem with reflux and coughing when I lay down. I also had a problem of being generally unwell for a couple of months with respitory problems.. My surgeon advised that sometimes the band can be too tight and the coughing and reflux is because the liquid/food can't get through the band. He said that this can cause fluid to get into the lungs which may have been the cause of the respitory distress and infection I had. I am not sure whether this is true or not... I find I can even cough and wake with fluid in my mouth even when I have not drunk or eaten anything for several hours before bed..... However, he did loosen the band a bit (to my great distress). I am now a lot better - whether that be to antibiotics or to the loosening of the band - or both. The down side? My band is looser and will power is in short supply. At the moment it is a battle just to try not to increase much. But I am back to the surgeon on 07/02 - hopefully he will decide all is better and will refill. But will the problems return? Will have to wait and see!!! Cheers, Kaysha

    Melbourne Get Together

Hi to all, I live in Melbourne and am new to this site (I just registered today). I am absolutely thrilled at the idea of catching up with other people in Melbourne who have had the band. I had my band at The Avenue Hospital in May, 2004. I have lost 55kg, but at least another 15 to go (If I am aiming at 70kg... sometimes I dream of being lower than that.. but heck, at the moment I would be glad to be below 80kgs (that was my goal by my 2 year mark, but at the moment I have stagnated and it appears a bit unrealistic). I can't make it to a lunchtime activity because I have to work ... But please keep me in mind if you plan something in future - maybe I would be able to take some flex time.. or maybe outside normal working hours?? (although I know this would be difficult for those who have kids). Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself briefly and say that I am very excited to have discovered the site!! Cheers, Kaysha.
