    Minkin's patients

Hi Chris and Shelly, I had my first fill about 3 weeks ago and it was supposed to be done in the hospital but Dr. Minkin decided to try to do it in the office. Everything went well after the second little stick and I got 2cc. At first I could tell a differance and since then I have lost 5 lbs which is good for me. I havnt really changed much on my eating habits because I dont eat fast food and do-nuts anyway, just healthy stuff. But I have noticed my portion control getting much better and since I spent over 16,000.00 of my own money on the lap band, I have a just another good reason to make this new tool work for me. I am very pleased but ant wait for another fill in a month or so. Hope you all are doing good to. I understand Minkin has a support group that meets once a month at the hospital, I want to get involved with that and we should all get together and socialize a bit and share a good few laughs together. Lets keep in touch. Here is my personal E-mail roy4345@sbcglobal.net Roy
  4. Hi Olene, What line of business are you in? I know the feeling that you have about being frustrated. I have been that way to for a long time. In my early years I was quite the hunk but didn't really notice it. After I got a lot older I started noticing myself and as my wife got even more beautiful I started going down hill. But now I feel the Lap Band is going to be the perfect tool for me to get back on track. It will be for you to. You just got to stay focused and remain positive in everything you do. Being in business you allready know that now you just have to keep practicing it. Love to hear from you any time as you see fit. Where do you'all live. Here in Missouri it is getting very cold right now. Tonight is supposed to be down in the teens and even lower. I think tomorrow will be spent all day in front of the fireplace. See ya later. Roy
  5. Hi, Courtney, Queen and Ollie, First I want to thank Courtney for responding to me and helping get this going. All day today I thought about getting home after my first fill to tell you all about it. It was great. My Doctor did it in his office and had no pain. He uses a special needle though that is about 5 inches long for some reason, probably just to scare you I guess. I really needed my first fill today because I felt myself starting to slide downhill although I did not gain any weight after surgery and actually lost more weight than I thought I would. I have to confess though this morning only because I knew I could get away with it I went to the donut shop and bought the biggest one there and ate the whole thing. No after effects but probably the last time I will ever be able to do that again so I just had to do it just one more time. I haven't had a donut or anything like that for well over 8 months so I deserved it. The rest of the day after the fill was spent at the YMCA working out and now back on liquids for a day. Tomorrow will be mushy and Wednesday will be back to normal just a lot smaller amounts. As far as getting hungry Courtney, There is not much you can do about it until your first fill. Until then just munch on veggies and stuff like that. I even have a little glass of Bloody Mary mix before dinner and pretend its the real thing. Just be sensible about it. When I feel hungry I just ignore it and get busy doing something else. Like I say if it gets to bad out comes the celery, broccoli, and cauliflower. That along with a few olives and I am set to go. I am 59 and have arthritis pretty bad in my lower extremities thats why I got the lap-band in the first place. Its not like I am 400 lbs. overweight (Thank God) I just need to get in better health. I have 8 beautiful grandkids and a wonderful wife that is still totally gorgeous so I have to get in better shape to keep up with her. She is 63 and as I said I am 59 and yes She robbed the cradle. We have been married well over 30 years now and it still seems just like yesterday. We are both retired and have been for quite some time and as she plays in her green house I play in my shop working on a Hot Rod or 2. I still own my business www.roysauto.com but my children run it for me. I have been in business in the same community for over 35 years so I am well established. I do a lot of work at my church with the youth along with Mission work all over the world. Right now I am helping to build a girls school in Liberia, West Africa. Anyone knowing of a good running truck I can fix up and send to them would be a real blessing. Thats about all for me so you'all be good and write when you can. here is my personal e-mail address: feel free to write any time roy4345@sbcglobal.net http://www.LapBandTalk.com/images/icons/icon7.gifhttp://www.LapBandTalk.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Please I need all the support I can get.

All of you that are getting banded, please just relax. It's not as bad as you think it is. I had mine December 8th and will have my first fill in a few weeks and can't wait. It's the best thing that I have ever done. I went in the hospital on Tuesday at 11am was home the next morning at 11am. You will be a little uncomfortable for a week or so but then you will forget all about it. The worst part of the whole thing is when you have to do the swallow test for an exray before you go home. The liquid they make you drink is disgusting. Buts its only about 2 ounces. Other than that it was no big deal. I worried and worried before surgery just like all of you but then laughed at myself for being so silly that night. I dont get to Overland Park very often but if anyone would like to get together in a month or so let me know at roy4345@sbcglobal.net and I will try to come and meet a bunch of you. Roy:wink_smile:
  9. Dear Sarah, Whether you think it or not your a very pretty young girl. It's just that I have been where you are at and over the years I have learned that to be successful at anything you have to think positive about it. I dont know you and I am sorry if I insulted you in any way. But I am very blunt and honest with people in my thoughts. Hang in there and work hard on your goals, just dont let anger get in the way because it will only slow you down. Roy

  10. And saying I should grow up on a site like this is completely ridiculous, I'm pretty sure I have a right to bitch, especially because my health is being considered in this, if I don't get this surgery then I will die in probably less than 5 years so yeah you could say I should try being less negative but if you were in my shoes I bet you would feel the exact same way!

  11. Yeah fyi in my blog I clearly stated I was having a rant and that it would be a bitch session hence why I was speaking so negatively, if your going to comment at least read my blog properly before you post!

Looking for fellow bandsters in So. Missouri

Hi Dianna, I live in Pacific, MO. I dont know where Mountain Grove is exactly but I am free to travel most anywhere since I am retired. If you get a group together I would love to coma and meet all of you. It would be real nice having a live support group where we could all get together once a month for a meeting and to socialize. I had my band surgery just yesterday and I am doing really good. Its less invasive then what I figured and I am not having to many problems. If this is all the pain I am going to have then its no big deal. A support group where we could all get together would be very important. You have to remember that this is just a TOOL for weight management and not a  fix to being thin, its only a TOOL and how you use it will be the most important part of recovery. I cant stress that enough. I sure hope we can get a group together it would be really nice. Keep me in your prayers and contact me when you can. I am rather new to all this e-mail stuff so I might need some help along the way but talk to me when ever you want to Roy:smile:

    Minkin's patients

I got banded yesterday by Dr. Minkin at Des Peres Hospital. He is a super doctor. I feel terrible right now but thats only what is to be expected. Once the pain Meds kick in Woo! Hoo! The next few day will be bad but as long as I expect that I will be O.K. Even with the pain I am having I would'nt change a thing. I think the worst time is 3 days before surgery and thinking of how good I am going to feel and look next summer is my motivation to succeed. Lets get a group together. Roy
  15. Thanks Purky for all the support and info. I guess I am stupid but I cant figure out what PB stands for. I am getting banded on Tuesday the 16th and staying over night, it sounds like it wont be very hard but right now I have been on liquids for 3 days and I go to the YMCA 3 times a week and do water aerobics and just feel like I am about to give up the most important thing that satisfies me "FOOD" just to have better health. I keep trying to think about my grand-kids and my children and how proud they will be of me when I get smaller "especially my wife" and already know that they are proud of me anyway but knowing that the holidays are upon us and all the great Christmas foods are going to be a no-no for me it makes it hard. I decided to do this 2 weeks ago and get started before the holidays but now I am starting to think "What were you thinking"? I am going to succeed at this because I am determined to but just being patient is not one of my best attributes. Thanks for listening and I look forward to hearing from you. Roy
