About Me

Hello!

I am going to refer myself as a "Newbie Newbie," because I am only a couple tiny steps past the Starting Line of this journey. My screen name, 5XLNoMo does not reflect my current status. It's what I aspire to. I am very much a 5XL at this time.

Being a professional marketing person I’m going to shift into work mode and summarize my story in bullets:

  • I am Type 2 diabetic (controlled, insulin), have high BP, take an antidepressant, have neuropathy pain in my feet. I take a lot of meds
  • I don’t take any exercise due to pain in my lower back and legs and my work is sedentary
  • I am happily married and my spouse is supportive of this path
  • I’m currently reading a great deal and watching videos about procedures, pre- and post-op directions, guidance for success, problems
  • I had a consultation with a bariatric surgeon at the suggestion of my endocrinologist and PCP, and have received a stack of forms to complete and instructions to follow
  • I have not yet decided which procedure I want. The surgeon I met with discussed sleeve and bypass options. I see benefits and concerns related to each
  • I know several people that have had WLS, including a close friend that just had his sleeve surgery 3 days ago
  • There are so many reasons to move forward with surgery and hardly any reasons to not

I'm going to say it now, and probably over and over again, but thank you to everyone for sharing ideas, experiences and support here.
