    April 2019 Surgeries!

Just wanted to check in. Had surgery on April 1st and I’m down 22lbs. I’m totally happy with that! I knew I wasn’t going to loose weight as fast as other people because my surgery weight was only 230 and I know that’s small for this procedure. I don’t know a lot of other ways I could have lost this weight. I also love that normally I would have given up during my 3 week stall but after surgery I didn’t have a choice but to stick with this. It’s the tool I need to be successful long term.

    April 2019 Surgeries!

I hit the stall in my third week and was stalled for the whole week. I started the process a little smaller at 230 so I’m only down 17lbs but I’m thrilled with that. After the stall ended I dropped two pounds and then about 1.5-2lbs a week after that.

    April Sleevers

Has anyone else had issues with diarrhea? I can’t keep anything in my body longer than a couple hours. 80% of the day I feel fine, but after I eat I get cramps and diarrhea. It’s not dumping, no rapid heart rate or sweating. But I feel like I have the flu.

    April 2019 Surgeries!

So last night my kids were eating ham and I thought I smelt really good. So I decided that a hotdog was soft food and I would try that. Well apparently my body disagreed and I had horrible stomach cramping and massive diarrhea. So I will be avoiding hotdogs for the foreseeable future. But on the plus side I dropped a pound and a half and I’m down to 216.4.

    April 2019 Surgeries!

So quick update, I had surgery Monday and I’m down 5 lbs in about 5 days. That doesn’t include the water weight I had to loose from the hospital. So I’m 5lbs lighter than when I walked into the hospital on Monday. So 5lbs in 6 days is pretty amazing in my book!

    April 2019 Surgeries!

Second day home after surgery. It feels so good to shower and sleep in my own bed. My energy is better every day and moving is pretty easy. So far so good.

    April 2019 Surgeries!

From the earlier today. Feeling better. It was tough there for a couple hours but finally the pain is more manageable and I’m able to get some decent sleep.

    April 2019 Surgeries!

Tomorrow is the day before surgery so I’m on an all clear liquid diet tomorrow. Doing the shakes for the past two weeks hasn’t been that bad, but the thought of only apple juice for 24 hours does not sound amazing. Oh well.....here we go. :)

    April 2019 Surgeries!

I just got the email from my hospital that my surgery check-in is Monday at 5:30 AM. I have such a crazy mix of emotions. I'm nervous, sad, excited, nervous again, and a little panicked (is that the same thing as nervous). I've been working toward this for the last year and I know I want it, I know I need it, but that doesn't seem to calm the butterflies in my stomach. Any words of encouragement or stories about your improved life quality would be AMAZING right now.

    April 2019 Surgeries!

Day three of my liquid diet today and I actually feel pretty amazing. It’s nice to know I’m purging all the crap out of my body and I was super hungry yesterday morning but once I got over that hump I’ve been ok. I’m in a really positive mindset and ready for what is to come!

Getting ready to start my liquid diet on March 18th. Is it weird that I'm kind of excited to start the liquid diet?

    Actual time off work

Hi there, So I met with the psychologist and nutritionist yesterday and was surprised when they told me I would need to take a month off of work, even though I work a desk job. Everything I'd read online said 1-2 weeks would be good. I see a lot of people here posting about 10-14 days is how long it took them to feel good going back to work. However, I would love to know if that 10-14 days is for those who got the sleeve or gastric bypass. I'm going to get gastric bypass and wanted to know if I should allot the 4 weeks that was recommended. If that is truly the case I will need to push off my surgery since I'm starting a new job.

    PNW Kaiser

Hi everyone, I am going through the process of getting approval for gastric bypass in Portland, Oregon. I am nervously waiting for the process to move forward. So the rundown is that I have a BMI of almost 39 with moderate sleep apnea, and a family history of diabetes and high blood pressure. My PCP approved me though based on incontinence. I don't see on any website where that is listed as a comorbidity. I've gone through the three months of weight loss class and have my appointment for the orientation in October. My fear is that since I don't have severe sleep apnea, high cholesterol or diabetes that someone is going to tell me "no" and I will have spent 6+ months going through the process. Can anyone with Kaiser tell me, have I jumped through the main hoop getting approval by my PCP or is there a more "official" approver down the line? I know the dietician, psychologist and surgeon can deny me, but do they generally go off the recommendation of the PCP?

    Kaiser Sunnyside Oregon

So I just did step 4 - meeting with the social worker and nutritionist and I have my follow up scheduled for January. But I’m wondering how the conversation with the surgeon goes when I get to that step. Can anyone provide me some insight on that step? Thanks so much!!

Hey there, sorry it took me so long to reply! I just met with the social worker and nutritionist today and wasn’t able to schedule my 30 min follow up until January 3rd (8 weeks out). This whole process is just draining because it’s so long. I’m going to start going to the support groups at the Salmon Creek location. And yes, I also got the feeling that unless something is wrong with my labs or the surgeon tells me I can’t get it then I’m gold. I would love to hear more about people’s meeting with the surgeon though.
