  1. I’m having a hard time with the liquid phase. I’m only averaging 40 oz of fluids a day. My stomach gets mad with every sip. I’m supposed to start puréed food on Wednesday and it’s driving me nuts to think about. Is it going to be as bad as I think? I have absolutely no appetite.

    BC: conflicting dr. opinions

I got an iud prior to surgery (mirena) and it was almost as traumatic as this damn surgery. I literally passed out. They told me it would be more uncomfortable because my cervix has never been dilated. That was definitely an understatement. During my one year check up I plan to have it removed. I was in pain weeks later after insertion. NEVER AGAIN. I am on a blood thinner now and unfortunately My body is still having a period while on the iud so I’m bleeding like crazy. I thought I was dying when I stood up and blood ran down my leg. Maybe hold off on the birth control. Your body may need to rest in between. Trust Your DR more than us!!!

    Dr. Coker- John Hopkins

I had mine on Wednesday! I go for a follow up on the 10th. Good luck!!!!
  5. My first BM was magnificent! I had been trying for three days but it was so hard. Once I sat down for three hours and finally the hard piece came through and everything came flowing right out afterwards. They did discharge me with miralax and sennakot. I bought a stool softener on my own. Since we are already on an uncomfortable subject, did anyone else notice that their gas smells bad?

    Tolerating everything well

If you’re cleared for white fish(I assume) that means you can handle the puréed phase. Maybe contact your doctor to discuss which phase you’re in and what else you can tolerate. I would say solid food is still a no-no.
  7. Fill yourself up on broths and the protein shakes! If you do cheat just make sure it’s something healthy but you ate too much. I cheated twice once two days before and it was Popeyes. I had two chicken wings, a spoon of red beans and rice and 5 fries. My other time was chipotle with just meat, salsa, and veggies. I spaced the bowl through out the day. I did great the other days and went to the gym. Supposedly my liver was perfect. Haha! Just remember that they can cancel your surgery if it’s to difficult to reach your liver. GOOD LUCK!
  8. Stop eating the cheese nips! Your doctor should have you on a sugar and fat free liquid diet. Have you tried premiere protein? It taste a lot better than most shakes. I started out with powder and had to switch because it taste so bad. Some ideas to help you with liquid phase are sugar free popsicles, sugar free jello, and cream soups that are fat free and strained so it’s just the liquid. That should help tremendously! GOOD LUCK! P.s use skim milk to make your soup creamier and do not be afraid to season your soup to make it taste better. Broths help too!!

    3 weeks post op

It’s normal. You may be sucking in too much air when eating. Also, They put a lot of air in you during surgery. You should be burping and passing gas. Then, You’ll become more comfortable as gas travels out. Try coughing 10 times every hour too. It helps so much!

    Terrified of puréed phase

Thanks everyone! I’m gonna try to stay positive. I even bought some stuff to purée!
  11. Just wait until after surgery. The thoughts of pizza will soon make you miserable. Well, it did for me at least.

    Dr. Coker- John Hopkins

Give it a week to 10 days if they already told you that they’re sending it through for approval!

    Dr. Coker- John Hopkins

I wasn’t with John Hopkins through the whole process. I started out with Dr. sofronski(sp?). I did my six months with him and everything else was done with Dr.Coker. My first surgery date got pushed back due to my insurance changing. It got pushed back again because I had a bad stomach bug. When they called me the third time she had already sent the paperwork through and it got approved. They are great at communicating and are very organized! Maybe try contacting them? I usually deal with Marie Day, who is Dr. Coker’s assistant.
  14. I was in terrible pain afterwards. I kept asking myself why I did this and just fell back asleep from all the meds. This was my first surgery so maybe that’s why it hurt so much? My pain went down significantly the next day. By day three it was tolerable.

    Pre-surgery liquid diet

I relied on broths, sugar free popsicles, and fruit. The premiere protein helped a lot too. I did cheat twice on my liquid diet and my surgeon couldn’t tell. I did the gym during the diet. My two cheat days consisted of half a chipotle bowl with no rice, sour cream, or cheese. I considered it cheating because my portion was bigger than recommended. Honestly all of my one meals of the day were bigger than suggested but not overboard.
