I'm finding this post to be really helpful. I'm really nervous about not being able to handle the pain after surgery and I really don't want the fear of pain to hold be back from going through with it. It's nice to be able to hear from other people who have already gone through the experience so I have more of an idea of what to expect.

Sorry you're in so much pain. Do you know how long you'll have your drain for? I know mine keeps it in for a week

I just want to thank everyone again who commented on this post! Everytime I've started to get nervous lately, I just come back here and read these comments and it makes me feel better.

My surgery is approaching fast (October 2nd). During the day, I am able to stay excited and positive about it but at night my mind starts to wander and I work myself up into an almost panic attack thinking about all the "what ifs?". I'm just looking for some words of encouragement/support or to connect with other people who feel the same.

Hi all, I'm scheduled to have gastric sleeve surgery on October 2nd. I was curious as to how long afterwards I should wait to get a new tattoo? I plan on getting it on my forearm, so nowhere near my incision sites. I like to get tattoos whenever I go through major life changes so this one is going to signify my weight loss surgery/grad school journey. I usually have to book my tattoo appointments a few months out because of my artist's schedule. Ideally, I'd like to get the tattoo sometime in November, do you guys think this too soon after surgery, considering it will be an open wound on my body while my body is still in recovery mode from surgery? Thank you!

Hey everyone!! I've been stalking this forum for a few months now as I've been jumping through all the hoops my insurance required for surgery. I finished up all my requirements last month and found out yesterday that my surgery has been approved and scheduled for October 2nd, 2018. I'm a 24yr old female, 230lbs, 5'2 and this will be my first surgery. I'm extremely anxious about it and have had the last 6 months to drive myself crazy looking up all the information I can about it. I go back and forth from almost giving myself a panic attack to being eerily calm about the whole thing. I'm not worried about backing out, I'm simply not that type of person. I'm more worried about how to keep my anxiety in check as my surgery date moves closer. I'm worried over all the normal things such as the possibility of death, complications and extreme pain. Everyone seems to have such varied experiences that I really have no idea what to expect, which has me expecting the worse. I'm mainly just looking for advice, support, words of encouragement, prayers.. etc. Thank you guys!
