    December 2018 Sleevers!

I gained a quarter inch on my waist in one day, but I think it's gas and bloating. I have been taking 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar before every meal (in 8 ounces of water) and it seems to be helping. I had my first movement in 2 days that didn't feel like I was passing Haley's Comet! Didn't change my weight on the scale though. Sent from my SM-G965U1 using Tapatalk

I lost 9 pounds the first week post-op, now stuck zzt the same weight for a week give or take a pound. It's annoying, but it's a long journey.

    December 2018 Sleevers!

The was me. The gave me tuna salad in the hospital after I passed my radiology test. I am on soft and purees for a month. I did have a strict 14 day pre-op liquid diet. Anyway, here is my updated:. I am a 5'9", 44 year old man. I was diagnosed with T2DM I February 2018. I also had high blood pressure, cholesterol and triglycerides. I am also one of those people that never thought of myself as being fat. I had reverse body dysmorphic disorder. I was in good shape most of my life but slowly gained weight in my 30s (when I got married). My highest weight (recorded) was 256.5 on April 9, 2018 at my first bariatric consultation (it was probably higher but I was afraid to go on the scale). I lost 15 pounds during my 6 month medically supervised diet. I was 243 when I started the 2 week pre-op liquid diet on December 3. On December 17 (surgery day). I weighed in at 231. Post surgery I got lost weight really fast for the first week, but I have been stuck at 222 for the past week. I am getting in all my Protein, 100 ounces of fluids a day and I am logging every bite of food in the My Fitness Pal app (Garmin). This stall is really pissing me off!!!! I know it's normal and to be expected, but f-ck it sucks. I was cleared to return to the gym at my one week follow up for cardio only (walking on the treadmill, elliptical and spin classes (taking it slowly)). I wonder if that's contributing to the stall?????? Anyway, none scale victories. My natural waist size (measured just below the belly button) was 48.4 on December 3. It was a 47 on the day of surgery and today it's 43.75". Blood sugars are much better too. :). I just wish that first week where I was losing a pound a day continued a little longer. Any 35bmi sleevers?

Some of this is also about prevention. Diets don't work for you or you wouldn't have gone this far with surgery. If you weigh 235 at 40 and chose not to get the surgery, how much will you weigh at 50? The surgery is most effective if done early in the obesity process and you will have less issues with excess skin etc. Don't chicken out. I am exactly one week post op and it's been an easy recovery. No big deal at all. Just do it.P.S.I am a 5'10" man with a heighest weight of 256 and a surgery weight of 231 and a BMI at surgery of around 34. Statistically speaking my odds of reaching a BMI of 25 is around 85% and my odds of hitting a BMI of under 30 is 95%. Should I have waited to get up to 300 or 350 to do the surgery when my odds of success drop significantly--pushing me to consider more invasive procedures like RNY or SIPS? Of course not. I have T2DM and this was a no brainier for me. Sent from my SM-G965U1 using Tapatalk

    December 2018 Sleevers!

I am really glad you posted this. I have been a little worried because my recovery has been so easy. It hurt to drink on the first 2 days. But I am 6 days post-op and I can almost drink like normal. I don't think I could chug a whole Snapple, but I don't need to take small sips either. That said, I am in the soft/puree stage on my program's diet and an ounce of food will cause pain and make me pound my chest and have to take a walk. I am also losing a pound a day since surgery, so something is working. If you can drink with relative ease, I think you should just consider yourself lucky!! It doesn't mean your sleeve is too big or anything like that. You are just healing well and ready to move to the next stage.

True, but the zucchini (or I prefer eggplant) isn't ideal for the puree/soft stage. Sent from my SM-G965U1 using Tapatalk

    December 2018 Sleevers!

Made it up myself. Just the same as a meat lasagna but with low fat ingredients and not Pasta. I used one pound of organic 85% fat free chopped beef from Trader Joe's. I browned the meat in a large skillet with a tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil, clove of garlic and sea salt. I add some fresh tomatoes and Vittoria's Marinara a couple of tablespoons and cook until browned.I then used a pureer to make sure it had the right consistency (nice and smooth, no lumps). I ladled in the meat into a small cake tin. I covered the meat with a 4oz of low fat rigotta cheese (cottage cheese would work too). I them covered the rigotta with a few tablespoons of Tomato sauce. Then I covered the sauce with a thin layer of part skim fresh mozzarella and parmagean cheese. I then baked it uncovered at 375 for 45 minutes. When done let it sit on the counter for 20 minutes before serving. It is easy to make, delicious and went down easy and was very satisfying (even if only ate a few teaspoons). Even my kids loved it and asked me to make it again. Here's a picture of the leftovers: Sent from my SM-G965U1 using Tapatalk

    December 2018 Sleevers!

I went to a family holiday party yesterday and I made a bariatric friendly lasagna. For the first time in my life, I didn't think about having pre dinner appetizers. I had 1.5 tablespoons of my bariatric lasagna and was full (needed to walk off some chest pain). I also had absolutely no interest in dessert and some of my old family favorites were present. It was like a true Christmas miracle!!!! Sent from my SM-G965U1 using Tapatalk

Yeah, the no drinking within a half hour of eating is a guideline for the beginning. A little fluid can help move some badness along in my experience...but if you drink too much your going to to be pounding your chest like King Kong to make the cramp go away. Going to the gym actually slows weight loss when you are still so close to your operation date. Some doctors suggest staying away from the gym for a few months until you get down to a comfortable weight. Sent from my SM-G965U1 using Tapatalk

Seriously, tell the time you were on a diet and lost 24 pounds in 6 weeks (and could keep it off)??? This isn't about instant gratification.... it's about changing your life FOREVER! If you lose 1.5 pounds a week on average, that's 78 pounds in a year. I don't know where you are starting from, but that's a pretty impressive result. Some people are going to drop faster, but then slow down. Others are slow, but steady. It really doesn't matter if you end up in the same place. Sent from my SM-G965U1 using Tapatalk

    December 2018 Sleevers!

Sounds like your doing great. I am 4 days post-op (technically just started my fifth) and 4 ounce of cream of chicken soup is enough to fill me too. I had pureed turkey with tomato sauce for dinner, topped with rigotta and a little mozarella (around 3 tablespoons of food) and I had had enough. Full doesn'tit used too. Now I stop as soon as I get that sharp pain and pressure in my chest---which happens very fast! Here was dinner served on small bread plate and eaten with a teaspoon: Sent from my SM-G965U1 using Tapatalk

Yes, that's normal for post surgery. It can hurt a lot for a minute or two. It usually means you ate too much too fast. I am still learning so it happens a lot. Same happens if you drink to fast. I also get these pains randomly every once in a while. When that happens, it's a stomach spasm. It should calm down after a couple of weeks. Sent from my SM-G965U1 using Tapatalk

Sent the last I reply too. You need the protein to heal but also because during the rapid weight loss phase you will lose muscle mass if you don't have enough protein. The concern isn't about skeletal muscle, but critical smooth muscle tissue like your heart! A couple of days not meeting your protein goals won't hurt you, but if you are not eating any calories from protein you are going to end up back in the hospital with serious complications.
