well, i joined a stepbet. You bet on yourself (games are $20-40) and they draw your steps from your fitness tracker and create a daily goal for you to meet 4 days, then a higher "stretch" goal for 2 days. Its based on where you are, so someone who runs every day currently will have a higher goal than someone who is currently sedentary. If you meet the goals for the duration of the game (2-4 weeks), then you split the pot at the end. If you don't make your goal any given week, you lose your money.

So, I guess it works - to get my stretch goal for today, I stayed on the treadmill an extra 15 minutes. So, I guess its doing its job. Just need to keep it up for another 4 weeks!

Whatever gives you motivation. Let us know how it turns out.

  2. Be healthy, whatever that weight looks like for each of us. Finding a weight to maintain is personal. I was thrilled to get to an overweight BMI. I just happened to keep losing and I ended up at a normal BMI.

know what I look like at 140 and I look stupid. (I'm very busty.)

BMI is flawed. You have an amazing fitness level and look damn fine!

My bone structure/body type is an inverted triangle. My shoulders are wider than my hips. I look busty, but I'm not. I've learned to be comfortable in my own skin . I should say" loose skin."

I'm trying to decide how much oil to add to my tracker for my restaurant meal. I had about 2 oz of seared shrimp and less than 1/4 c. of charred broccoli. Clearly there was some oil involved. I'm thinking 1TBL is too much, but would rather over count than under count. Does that sound about right? Thanks!

Sounds about right. Most chain restaurant menu items are listed in your food app. (depending on which app you use)

So my husband decided that he wants to lose weight and look better too. He went to his doctor and got a prescription for Phentermine. I never took this before my surgery and really know very little about it. I was never interested in weight loss medications so strong you need a prescription for. Does anyone have any experience they can share with me? Good or bad?

I took it years ago. It was the equivalent to speed. Once the prescription ends, your appetite comes back. It was not a long term solution for weight loss.

  5. Whew. Thanks for giving me a better idea of what your eating. I understand Meal Replacement on the run. Many sites sell products marked to bariatric patients. Shop around and compare prices before you buy.

I feel like my sleeve is stretched, I don’t have that restriction no more that I use to have.😢

An eleven pound weight bounce is manageable. I maintain a ten pound weight bounce. When the scale moves up. I go back into weight loss mode to get it back down to 130's

Your not alone. Most sleeve feel less restriction year+ out. Its normal. Know that your stomach has not stretched back to its original size.** (revisions are rare. If you think it's stretched and you need a revision contact your surgeon to get it diagnosed)**

Now that you can consume more food, Its finding ways to fill the extra space without going over your calories/macros to maintain/lose weight . It's also finding foods that keep you feeling less hungry. Honestly, real food is how I manage the extra sleeve capacity/hunger.

I hope you find what works for you.

Do you have any suggestions in regards to the kind of products to purchase from BariatricPal?

As you can tell, I'm not a fan of proceed replacement products. To each their own.

Products that break down rapidly or liquids don't keep me full. (example Protein Shakes, Soups, chips) Items that have more bulk help with hunger. I keep Quest bars in my car for quick food on the run. (cost effective and easy to find locally)

Yes, I drink Meal Replacement shakes/ Herbalife in the morning or for dinner when I don’t want to indulge in bad food. I am more of a Breakfast person thing anything I like to eat pancakes, waffles etc.

You are maintaining right? Can I ask how much of a gain you are wanting to take off?

I hope I am wrong in understanding what your meals look like. I'm a bit confused and concerned. Is this your food instructions by your surgical team? This is only an estimate below. I have no Idea of what an actual day of food looks like for you.

    • I looked up Herbalife shakes 15 grams Protein 120 calories
    • 2 Eggo waffles 5 grams protein and 190 calories 27 grams carbohydrates.

This is only 620 calories per day and 40 grams of protein.

It would be, but I am only 6 weeks post op. I am eating 3 meals a day, spaced out at least 5 hours apart. I have done it a couple of times since surgery, but it's not something I would do on a regular basis until I am much further out from surgery.

Good advice, but the idea of spreading meals out is kind of outdated. It's based on studies done with athletes and bodybuilders (which most of us are not). Having 5 or six meals a day causes you're body to increase and maintain high levels of insulin throughout the day. This is a recipe for insulin resistance, which leads to more weight gain. The current science seems to support the opposite, which intermittent fasting. Most people seem to do very well going with a 16:8 fast, with a 16 hour fast a week (no calorie consumption at all after 8pm and then next meal/calorie would be lunch at 1pm). This can be done three times a week, with the other days have three meals a day spaced at least 5 hours apart. Most people tolerate it really well and even if the calorie consumption is the same, weight loss numbers increase because of the increase in insulin sensitivity.

That's great, intermittent fasting is your preference . I'm glad the original poster has many options to try to see what works for them.

Has anyone in this forum used the Trim Away pills after surgery? I was sleeves April 2017 and I am gaining my weight back 😢 I have ordered the Trim Away pills from Bariatric Pal they are suppose to suppress your appetite and I don’t think they are working for me because I’m hungry a hour after taking the pills and drinking my Meal Replacement shake. 🤷🏽‍♀️ Any suggestions?

Your not alone in having a weight gain after a year or more. I'm a sleeve four and a half years out. I've had to work off a regain. This is just a set back. You can get back on track. You can get your body back in weight loss mode without being dependant on pills.

    My two cents on pills:

Pills are not long term sustainable for weight loss. Majority of them don't work. Phentermine has side effects and most people gain weight once the prescription is over.

Weight loss and maintaining is work. There are no shortcuts.

    some things to try:

    • Log your food and stick to your weight loss calories and macros for the day
    • You are over a year out. Get rid of the shakes. Real whole foods will keep you feeling more satiated.
    • Sleeves can consume more food years out. Eat more veggies with your Protein to fill the extra space and keep your calories down. It will help with hunger
    • Spread meals out 5 to 6 meals a day
    • Get temptation food out of the house
    • Keep healthy options for sweet and salty cravings in the house
    • find counselor or therapist

I am 5 years post-op with my gastric sleeve surgery. I have lost over 220 pounds. I give all the credit and honor to God for this great blessing. Now, in the past couple months, I have gained 15 pounds. This to me is very scary - I do not want to go back up the scales. I am trying so very hard to never take advantage of this blessing. I have try also to stick very closely to my plan that I have used since the surgery, yet still I have gained this weight. I have read about taking a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar with Water can curve your appetite and help cleanse your system. Is this true or is it too hard on the stomach? Help! I cannot and will not go back up the scales.

Congrats on five years out and all your weight loss.

Weight loss takes work. There are no shortcuts. I'm glad you are taking control of this now. It's easier to take off a 15 pound gain than a 30, 40, 80 or more.

It sounds so silly to me that before my surgery, I would constantly be eating and now, I struggle to even drink my Water. Which I know is so unhealthy for my body.

I was wondering if any of you guys struggle/struggled with this? I'm so beyond not hungry that I can go the whole day and not have anything. I know setting alarms help, but truth is, it's on my mind to consume things I just don't really want to since I'm not hungry. I am slowly doing better but I wanted to reach out to you guys because well, I don't feel so alone with you guys!

I had my surgery Jan 15,2019 and I'm almost 2 weeks post op and about to start the puree stage.

When your sleeve is new eating may feel like a chore. (did you ever think you would say I don't want to eat?) It's pretty normal to struggle to get your Protein and hydration gaol at first. Keep trying to hit it to stay healthy. Your sleeve surgery restriction is still tight. First months will be your best weight loss. The restriction will become less over time.

Be prepared for less sleeve restriction. It's strange when you experience this for yourself. Know that it's also normal.

Congrats on your Jan 19th surgery. We are all adults. food choices and behavior change are yours. The only one that has to be happy with your weight loss results is you.

    Hi friends,

I'll be 1 year out from RNY on 1/31/19 - exciting! I was a naughty girl and didn't incorporate exercise until about 3 weeks ago. Since then I've been really diligent going to the gym 5-6 days a week, doing primarily cardio and core but strength twice a week as well. Since then the scale has been awful. I'm going up and down the same 2lbs over and over and over when I'm absolutely maintaining a caloric deficit (eating ~1100 calories a day). My diet obviously has been the key to losing for me, but now I'm so close to the finish line and trying to do good by myself with the exercise and it's stalled out completely.

Has anyone else had any experience with this? I'm trying not to be discouraged, and I'm so super happy about my progress.. but I am dying to get that normal BMI for the first time in my life!!

    Thanks in advance. :)

    Yep, I experienced this.

Weight loss may slow the closer you get to goal. Your body has less fat to burn. Give your body time to adjust to your exercise plan. Weight loss is diet exercise is fitness. Great that your lifting. Sometimes we lose muscle with rapid weight loss.

Don't get discouraged, You are doing fantastic.

I started thinking bout it since surgery. Im 5 months post op, Been working on my face, arms, legs, abdomin but havent found anything good or recommend for breast.
Extra skin might get in bad shape and might need to be removed but what if we can help a lil.

Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app

85 down! you are doing fantastic. Wow you look younger than 43.

I think most of us think about what our skin will be like after weight loss. Doesn't hurt to try to try things to reduce it a lil. Do they work? IDK.

My loose skin is livable. It was not as bad as I made it out to be in my head. 😉
