Never let an interaction with 1, affect your interaction with all. I can't even dance around all the things I'd like to say because it will *ALL* come out wrong in this wonderfully PC world we live in. But, not all men think that, not all men act this way, etc etc etc etc stereotypes are bad no matter who we are taking about, etc etc etc.

Take each interaction as it's own. Not sure what this guy is "bringing to the table" in your interaction (meaning his thoughts, feelings, history, moral compass, etc etc etc). I've got a friend that has no idea when girls *ARE* hitting on him... even when it's beyond obvious that it's happening. So... that's my 2 cents.

I am not a part of the PC generation. You wont offend me. Feel free to message me the things you would like to say.

  2. Need a place to vent/rant A guys perspective would be appreciated.

I could be all wrong about this. Could someone explain some things to me about men and social interaction. I'm clueless. When I talk to some men they think I'm hitting on them. When I was obese they never thought I was hitting on them..So why now?

Had a casual conversation with one of the gym regulars I've known for about 2 years. I teased him about being on the phone and not running the track. Nothing inappropriate. It got back to me that he thinks I'm hitting on him. Now when we talk he feels the need to say "you met my wife right?"

I had a conversation with a acquaintance. I asked how his wife was doing. He explained her fibromyalgia was acting up. It got back to me that I am hitting on him because i asked how his wife was. He interpreted it as if I was seeing if he was single...What the hell????

I'm an old fart and married. I don't get it. Should I stop talking to men???

I find that whenever I eat food that tastes good, I eat way too fast and get sick/uncomfortable. This has led to me avoiding foods that I really like and sticking with foods that I can tolerate the tastes of of but that are not my favorite. Anyone else have similar experiences?

Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app

You know yourself and what foods trigger you into eating fast. Some things that may help with behavior change.

    https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/mindful-eating-guide#section1

Mindful eating. Slowing down and savor every texture and flavor.

    • Eat more slowly and don't rush your meals.
    • Chew thoroughly.
    • Eliminate distractions by turning off the TV and putting down your phone.
    • Eat in silence.
    • Focus on how the food makes you feel.
    • Stop eating when you're full.
    • Ask yourself why you're eating. Are you actually hungry? Is it healthy?

    1. Challenge Starting weight: 133
    2. Todays weight 136 up a bit.
    3. Maintaining weight 125 to 135.
    4. Fitness/exercise goal: New lifting plan is fantastic. It's embarrassing to know how weak my upper body is. 💪. Less cardio has made a big difference. ( I run once a week)
    5. Total weight loss at the end of challenge: (Post January 1st 2019)

Check in: I have my temptations in check and I'm enjoying the craziness of the holidays. I got brave and ventured into the sauna and steam room friday evening. It was heaven.👼

  4. I am supportive of anyone at any size at the gym. People will see your hard work and the pounds coming off. You never know who you will inspire. Most of us have been judged by negative people in places besides the gym. You know who is supportive. Keep them around you.

I am the wrong person to make a negative statement in the gym or anywhere about weight. Its funny because most don't know I was obese.

Ok so don't laugh. I'm 4.5 years post VSG. I lost about 90 lbs, had some regain, had some health issues, had a doctor put me on LCHF eating (keto) and have lost all of that regain. But I never made my initial goal so I have about 25 lbs to go before I'm there.

That same doctor who gave me some ugly health news has ORDERED me to start an exercise regimen. I have a cushy membership to my local Y, which is PLUSH. seriously, very very nice, clean and a huge facility.

Bottom line? I'm absolutely scared to death to go. I've talked with a couple of the trainers, There is only one female, and I need to work with a female for sure. She is decently versed in exercise and fitness but not at all in the metabolic needs of bariatric patents nor anything about LCHF.

I have this really bad fear of being watched, laughed at, etc. Don't know why. Used to be a gym nut many years ago in college. How do I conquer this??

    Any suggestions for the gym-phobic??

Fantastic that you lost your regain. I hope you find your gym comfort zone.

So the L-lysine are horse pills? :(

    Crap!!

This is a great question actually! Do you think that maintenance is as varied as all our pre-op liquid diets were? :D What a nightmare!

Are you saying you eat a lot? But that's because you are so diligent about working out like a beast? (BTW, I'd secretly not so secretly like to be you when I grow up. :D )

Yep varied plans maintaining. You know me, I indulge. I have times I carb load. If your in weight loss mode don't eat what I have in my food diary.

I posted it earlier, Hope it brings a smile your way. I want to see who can keep up with Henry. Everyone dance!

I had the gastric sleeve done May 1st 2018 and I am 6 months in and I was doing good for a little while after surgery and I had to moved. I kind of got off track and now it’s hard for me to get back on track ! NEED HELP DOES ANY ADVICE OR TIPS !

about 7 months out. Right? Take advantage of this first year. Your weight loss will slow down as you progress out from surgery. Start today. don't let a weight gain turn into 20, 30, 50 pounds or more. Time to get your head back in the game. Suffer the pain of discipline or the pain of regret.

    • Find your surgeons plan instructions. Follow them
    • Clear out temptation food . go grocery shopping for healthy food.
    • Log your food. Hit your Protein and macro(carb fat) goals
    • Hydrate
    • fit in activity/exercise into your day.
    • join a accountability/support weight loss challenge.

I'm not a good example for maintenance, or at least not in context of what we hear about here on BP. My goal always was to eat a normal diet, just smaller quantities. So that's what I'm doing. It goes against pretty everything preached here, so I'm keeping it pretty low key. That's why I'm not posting on the food Before and After Thread. So far so good, but these are still very early days. I'm willing to adjust and eat more mindfully if the scale begins to creep up. But whatever I end up doing long term it will always be more of a "normal" diet vs. restrictive. I will always eat out A LOT, drink alcohol, enjoy ethnic food, etc., I just may need to balance that with being stricter while I'm home.

I think I'm just at a standstill on Hair loss. Maybe it's growing back? I don't know I've always had tons of fly away baby hairs, hard to tell if there are more than there was before. If yours is just breakage maybe try some hair masks? (And for you too @Orchids&Dragons) I just bought one from Amazon that gets great reviews, because I flat Iron my hair more now then I did before. So you don't like your hair down? I don't like mine up, because my ponytail is like the diameter of a nickle, vs. a quarter before :(, and it shows the thinning through my temples.

I like the style a lot. Cause, it's basically my hair, only now it's shorter.. I like the color too, mine is similar as well. I had my colorist take some of the "golden" tones out last time because it goes a little too red for my liking, especially in the sunlight. So I'm starting to lean towards ash tones vs. golden tones. But my complexion tends to flush and go red, so I'm trying to counteract that a bit. You may not have that issue.

Is there a standard maintenance plan? My maintenance has changed and evolved over the years. I would hate to have anyone in weight loss mode look at my food diary and think they are going to lose weight.

How were you guys with veggies when you were new at the solid food stage?

I know we should focus on Protein but sometimes I need a bit of variety to pair my Proteins with.

    Any tips? :)

I had great surgery restriction in the first months. If I ate 4 0z of less dense Protein sources I could get veggies in. As I progressed out from surgery, I am able to add more variety with my protein without much effort. Eating becomes more normal over time. Hang in there.

  10. I was diligent with working out my first two months. Third month, I started taking the quick weight loss for granted. My home treadmill became a place to hang my clothing. It stalled out my weight loss and set me back. This was the moment I realized this takes work. The honeymoon was over. Sold my treadmill and bought a gym membership.

Worried about the fact that almost every time I eat. Even if I’m my opinion I’m not over eating. I keep gagging or having a food stuck feeling. Then I throw up. Almost everything I eat the past days.

Also simple things like Powerade zero and sometimes crystal light even make me sick or go to the bathroom a bunch. Or have stomach turning.

But I want something different than Water sometimes.

I also drink unsweet tea and occasionally will splash lemon juice or lemonade like Minute Maid into it at a soda fountain. But when I say splash. I mean splash. For the lemon flavor. But not so much that the sugars would make me dump or sick. Although sometimes I still worry about something setting it off.

Other than nausea and vomiting. I don’t recall dumping yet.
And I feel like I’d know.

    Call your surgeon's office.

I was wanting to buy carbquick so i could make pancakes, just wanted to make sure i could have it. I tried the Protein pancakes with chickpeas.. absolutely gross. I wont eat it all the time because in my book it is like having bread, but something different than eggs and cottage cheese a few times i would be eternally grateful. LOL. I start soft foods on Thursday.

Glad your food progression is moving forward. Things get better. Hang in there.
