NSV for me today— The lady who works at our dry cleaners who I’ve seen for years didn’t recognize me until I told her my name. 😳 93 lbs down, 22 to go to hit my goal!

    A couple of vacation-related ones:
    * when buying hiking clothes, everything was a medium or a large. I could measure myself with a tape and order online and things actually fit - I was able to decide which fit me BEST, but they all fit and they even coordinate.
    * for 16 days of travel and two extremely different purposes (visiting old friends and hiking) I was able to pack in one medium roller bag. Some of this is being able to mix and match clothes more, but I swear some is just smaller clothes.
    * when I landed, I was not tired. I’d traveled for over 24 hours, walked 5 miles through airports, slept 6 hours on a plane, then walked another mile or two at my destination. Not only did I not need a catch-up nap, but I was able to be really active all the way to local bedtime.
    * one of the features of this city is neighborhoods built on steep hills, with the shortest route between these enormous flights of steep steps and 45-degree paths. When I used to live here it took weeks to get to a level of fitness to tackle them regularly, and I’d usually end up a red sweaty mess. Now I just get as winded as everyone else, but at the top of the steps bounced right back and was no worse for wear.
    * my friends haven’t seen me in a decade and more than one of them has burst out in delighted laughter when they realize it’s me and give me a huge hug, then accuse me of aging backwards. It’s really nice.

It took me about a week to get comfortable on my side too. Till then I slept on my back, except for the first night home when I slept in a recliner. Getting out of bed was difficult and painful for a few days also.

At one week post op (really for the first couple months) I was told to focus on Protein and liquids. Was not given a calorie range but I was at around 600-700 for the first month then 600-800 for months 2 & 3. Hope that helps.

I had one this past week. I have been buying business class seats to travel for years because of my size and never wanting to be embarrassed or kicked off a flight. I've always had seat belt extensions as well. I took my first economy flight in years and fit in the seat and the seat belt actually fastened without an extension. Great feeling!

Today is my 10-year wedding anniversary. Yesterday I went shopping for a cocktail dress for a special weekend we have planned.
When I was in high school, my friends and I would go to the mall and try on prom dresses in the department store junior section, just for fun. The largest size they ever had was a 14. I would ask my friends to try to zip the dress up, and it wouldn't zip, ever. I blamed my boobs or my large frame (shoulders/ribs too wide..) but the truth was, I was just too heavy. It still makes me feel shame, even 20 years later.
Well, yesterday, I found a beautiful cocktail dress in a size 12. I decided to try it on, despite having flashbacks to high school. It was tight and I couldn't reach to zip it myself, so I stepped out to ask an attendant to zip it for me. Y'all - it fit, with space to spare. I feel like Carrie Bradshaw in this damn dress, and I bought a pair of sky-high heels to match.
And the best part? This normally $298 dress was on clearance at Nordstrom Rack for $35!

I had my surgery 5 months ago and I'm down 49 lbs. Unlike some people, I am really happy with that result. I have never lost weight so fast, and doing it while in perimenopause is like magic to me. My size went from a 22W to a 16 regular. I can do business travel without bringing a seatbelt extender and not be embarrassed to have my picture all over my employer's social media. People have really noticed my loss, and I feel more comfortable in my body. One of the best decisions I have ever made.

Been on around five dates - only one hilariously dumb, the others were 6 or 7 out of 10.
But I am really busy and exhausted so frankly I’m not really following up on anything below an 8 (and I’m talking date quality here, not attractiveness). No one sparked enough yet to make me WANT to pursue date two. I may go on another date with an EMT, but he’s borderline as well....
What I will say is that dating has stopped being a terrifying trial. That plus not needing to recharge my introvert batteries as much has made this all much easier. I don’t have to hype myself up anymore, it’s just going out for a drink. The playing field feels a lot more balanced.
I am THRILLED to hear a Bumble guy is working out for you! Keep us posted!
I wouldfeel to intimidated to ask to fool around on the first date. This guy probably gets many dates and women keep complaining about him. I think he is what women want.
Good lord, why would you read that tale and come away thinking he’s what women want? He got one date. I listened to him yammer, then never contacted him again. So no, unlikely to be what women want - he looked good on paper, but in person he washed out.

Maybe try cottage cheese or Greek yogurt? Those were easier for me to tolerate early on. Or smooth Soups.< /p>

I get most of my Protein from dairy—Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, Fairlife milk. Plus eggs, Protein Shakes, Protein Bars. If you eat dairy, you should be fine.

I just wanted to share how absolutely ecstatic I am to have had this surgery.
I was never deeply unhappy with my weight pre-surgery. I mean, I wanted to be thinner, but lived a happy, successful, fulfilling life. For the most part it was the little things that annoyed me about being overweight, not being able to wear cute clothes, feeling self conscience when I order a non-salad at a restaurant, etc.. The only time my weight truly bothered me was while vacationing. I hated not getting the most out of my travel, and holding my friends back with the physical limitations my weight entailed.
I just returned from a fantastic vacation, and it occurred to me how dramatically happier my weight loss has made me. I didn't have any thoughts at the back of my head about being the "fat American". I walked for miles and miles everyday and it didn't phase me a bit, no foot pain, no exhaustion, nothing. I was the one suggesting to walk vs. take an Uber.
Thinking about it also made me realize how having all those negative thoughts about my weight being gone from inside my head has improved my daily life as well. I don't feel guilty when I sit next to someone in an airplane. I don't have to switch to flats as soon as possible after a meeting. I can wear pencil skirts and sheath dresses. When I see a stranger looking at me, I now assume it's for a good reason, not because my size makes me stand out. I no longer snore, and don't feel self conscience sleeping with my bf. Sooo many little things that really add up!

@Georgetown—I’ve never heard of a program that RECOMMENDS daily weighing. That’s strange. Usually the recommendation is weekly or less. If it’s not working for you, I’d say don’t do it. Go to twice a week or once a week and see if that is more motivating.
