    No Pain Medications

I got a local block, Toradol around the clock and Dilaudid the first night, Percoset after that.

    Thanksgiving

Sadly there are several negative people in my family that are extremely judgemental about obesity and weight loss surgery, and I don't need that sort of negativity right now, that's why I have kept this to myself. They have never struggled with food issues and have no empathy for those that do.

That sounds so good, thanks for the idea!

    So Dramatic...

If there was one, which I guess there usually is, they put it in and took it out while I was still under the effects of anesthesia, I was never aware of one. This was a few hours post op in a big recovery room with lots of beds.

    So Dramatic...

Legit dramatic moment: Waking up after in the OR with pain in my chest. I am assuming this was extreme gas pain but I had expected belly pain not chest pain and I panicked so badly. I kept saying, "I'm scared, I'm so scared!" and tried to explain that my pain wasn't in my stomach but my chest and that I must be having a heart attack. They tried to assure me that my heart was being monitored but I kept saying, "But I'm so scared." The anesthesiologist went to my IV and that was the last thing I remembered, he must have given me something to calm down. I'm choking up now thinking about it, I honestly thought I was going to die. Stupid dramatic moment: In recovery, in the anesthesia and pain med stupor, I thought I had peed myself. I was mortified and told the nurse and she pulled back my blanket to see I was completely dry and told me this to my amazement. I guess I was hallucinating or something.

    Nirvana from the gods....

I'm so eager to get to that stage and be able to get at least some of my protein from food and not those vile shakes. Enjoy!
  7. I am recently post op so I have no experience with the surgery, but in my dieting experience in the past success with treats has a lot to do with whether or not they are trigger foods for you. I cannot put a fig newton or an ice cream sandwich in my mouth (not even a sugar-free or Skinny Cow one). It will trigger binging big-time. I would actually be really afraid to eat one after surgery because I would be afraid I would eat myself sick. However, fruit, popsicles or, a Choco-Rite or Choco-Lite candy does not trigger a binge. I have a big problem with soft, carby, chewy foods and I hope that I can kick that habit with the surgery. The good thing about protein is that it rarely triggers a binge. Who binges on chicken?

    Anyone regretting this?

I think it's normal at the beginning to regret it. I'm just 5 days out and have been having those moments. You're in pain, you're exhausted and you can't eat any of the foods you love...and yet it is too early to see progress, so sure, regret is normal, I think. I have a lot of trouble with water and protein but I'm just gonna have to keep trying a little harder each day. Keep trying different things. Good luck!

    excessive mucus anyone?

I am only a few days out but oddly enough I noticed a reduction in mucus. Maybe you aren't tolerating all the dairy so well?

    Soup options for liquid phase

I just tried the mushroom bisque for dinner, strained of all veggies and rice (I'm on full liquids). It was the first tasty thing I've had in a week, but sadly my stomach said "Uh-uh, no way". I started feeling lousy as I ate, so I put it in a container in the fridge to try again in day or two. It isn't as fatty as a bisque normally is, so I'm not sure why it was causing a problem. I hope I can tolerate it tomorrow because it was good. No protein through.

    November 2018 Sleevers!?!?

It seems like there are a lot of teachers with weight problems. I guess we have too much stress and develop bad habits.

    November 2018 Sleevers!?!?

Amen! I used to like it, even the sugar-free kind. They brought it to me the 2nd day in the hospital and it was repulsive. Your taste buds really do change, it is the strangest thing.

    Yogurt

I am Day 5 and my plan says I can add Greek yogurt today, but I was scared because the full liquids plan says to only have liquids that pour off a spoon and Greek yogurt does not. So I just had 1 oz., and took 20 minutes of baby kitten licks to finish it. So far I feel ok, it went down smoother than some other things. I'm frustrated by conflicting information!
  15. I thought I was prepared. I tried a bunch of shakes pre-surgery and found that Premier RTD was the most palatable, and almost good when mixed in coffee. All of the other shakes were gag inducing after one sip, and that was pre-op. Well, I moved from clears to full liquid yesterday and I nearly puked trying to choke down 2oz. of Premier...and I bought so many of them! I know it isn't a great option but this morning I used some Carnation Instant Breakfast (the sugar free kind) in the higher protein Fairlife milk and I was able to get down half (4oz.) because it was a lot less sweet. 4oz. of this combo has 9 grams of protein, which isn't a whole lot but I figured it was better than no protein at all. It took me 40 minutes to drink and that was with great effort and a lot of disturbing gurgling. Maybe I can add some unflavored whey to it to boost the protein. I knew to expect that tolerance for sweets would change (and that was part of the reason I wanted to get sleeved) but I was shocked that it happened immediately. Sugar free Jell-O, which I really liked before, is positively disgusting to me now. In an attempt to get rid of the dead raccoon taste in my mouth I took a sugar free mint and had to spit it out. This is a good thing, but not in the liquid phase when shakes are so important.

    These shakes, omg

Thank you, looking him up now!
  17. I'm only four days out. First three days it didn't bother me. Today it did so I had my pitiful chicken broth in another room as my husband ate his burger and fries. I could barely manage a few ounces of broth, so it's not like I could cheat even if I wanted to, but I just couldn't really handle seeing that food (this afternoon was the first time I felt hungry). I would have been ok eating a healthy salad or some plain grilled chicken as he chowed down but with liquids it's just sort of depressing. It's going to be a long couple of months until I can eat solid and satisfying food but you gotta do what you gotta do. My husband was supportive of me getting the surgery and didn't judge me for needing the surgery to lose the weight, so I feel lucky.
  18. I am 4 days out and I haven't gone in 5 days, which is to be expected when all you are consuming is a little bit of liquid. My belly hurts so badly from the surgery and while I'm taking Colace I'm worried about when I finally go it is going to really hurt me. Can you tear stitches like that? I'm trying not to take much painkillers because I know that makes the poop situation even worse. I'm terrified of throwing up too, I just started my chewable vitamins and I know those make a lot of people sick.

    NOVEMBER SLEEVERS

I was sleeved on 11/8 and I'm having a real hard time with pain and with getting fluid and protein in, I'm not coming even close to my goals for protein. Those of you that were sleeved in early November, how has your progress been?

    These shakes, omg

Thanks! Even if it doesn't come in decaf that brand will come in handy in a month or two!
  22. Swanton_Bomb

    These shakes, omg

Thanks! Do you know a brand of low acid decaf?
  23. Swanton_Bomb

    These shakes, omg

Thanks! This sounds like a good idea. Can we add fruit to shakes? I imagine it would be ok unless it has small seeds like strawberries.
  24. The conflicting information is really frustrating. What the dietician says v. the materials they give you, then v. other sources of information. It doesn't make sense that some doctors allow yogurt at a certain time and others don't unless they are tailoring the rules for an individual patient. Its so arbitrary. Like, Doctor X says SF pudding is ok on full liquids but if you have the surgery with Doctor Y SF pudding is for the soft food stages. So annoying.

    These shakes, omg

Thanks for all the suggestions. I liked PP in coffee pre-op, but my stomach is so sensitive that I'm afraid to try something as acidic as coffee just yet, even though decaf is supposed to be ok. I'm going to try thinning out the PP with Fairlife milk as Fluffy suggested. Thanks, everyone.
