  1. Did anyone have to do this after bypass - my nutritionist mentioned it casually yesterday but it sounds awful - and strange for someone with a brand new egg-stomach to swallow "as much and as quickly as I can" What were your experiences? did you have one?
  2. Oh whew! I was worried - but I think I can do that! Thank you!
  3. I switched to a lactose-free milk when I couldn't find soy milk. I have switched back to soy and I now have no problems, I don't know if the lactose free milk was bad or what but I will NEVER drink that again!
  4. I am pre-surgery but my plan doesn't have "real" food for 8 weeks - purreed and soft foods only for at least the last six weeks. Maybe you are on solid food too soon?

    I'm struggling.

Thank you everyone - I can't tell you how happy I am to have found these forums. I did much better last night - right on track and feeling much better. Thank you all so much for your support.
  6. I have two weeks to go until surgery - I was doing great on the pre-op diet but today, completely without a second thought I ate a piece of apple bake bread a co-worker brought in. I'm feeling like a failure, and feel frustrated from not feeling well from the protein shakes (struggling getting my Lactaid dose correct!) Anyway - I needed to confess to someone, back on the horse, right?

    I'm struggling.

I do use Lactose free milk - and soy, I suspect its the whey protein in the shakes. So I use the Lactaid pills as well.

    In preop weight wont move

I have to be on my pre-op for 5 weeks - I'm 3 weeks in and I have lost about 22 lbs but have totally stalled the last few days. I figure they told me what to eat, which I am doing, they didn't require a specific amount of weight lost so I am good. I wouldn't worry - if you are following their plan, your liver is shrinking and getting healthier and that is all they really wanted.
  10. I looked and most of what I’m consuming base sucralose. I can’t find anything definitive as to whether they are known to cause those symptoms or not.
  11. I do. I have also found that it is worse in the afternoon - maybe I'm not getting enough Lactaid in - I'll try doubling up and see if that helps. Thank you!
  12. I have a Surgical consult next week - I'll ask him if they have any approved ones - thanks!

    Protein shakes

My program only allows Unjury or GNC Wheybolic AMP they aren't bad,
  14. My stomach does not care for whey protein, I use my lactaid but sometimes, its just not enough. only three more weeks to go (and then some more shakes....) LOL I keep chanting "its worth it, its worth it"
  15. Oh! I would love to hike in Scotland Walk the Freedom Trail in Boston with my husband Cross Country Ski again Buy whatever clothes I want wear cute shoes!!!! Ride a horse again NOT have to knit the biggest size sweater - I will be able to knit any sweater pattern I want!
  16. Down 22 pounds on my pre-op diet.  I mourned spaghetti yesterday, but I haven't actually EATEN spaghetti in years!

  17. I see we have a horrible metabolism in common! took me 6 months to lose 10 lbs on STRICT-NON CHEATY weight watcher diet many years ago! GREAT FOR YOU!!!! GOOD LUCK!!!!
  18. My awesome surgeon has told me I can decide which surgery to have up until they wheel me in. I have a lot to lose 188 pounds to get to the weight suggested by my height and age. I don’t expect to get that low- at all. But I want to optimize my chances. I first chose sleeve but now I’m leaning towards bypass. What was it that cemented your decision? My insurance will pay for either and the surgeon is not making a firm recommendation either way. Which should I do??
  19. I have a surgery date of September 24! I find myself endlessly calculating what I might end up weighing at the end of this - I'm not fixated on an amount so much as amazed that this could actually happen! Turns out that even if I do lose 65% of my excess weight I will still be in the "overweight" category. Is there any chance I could lose more than average AND keep it off?
  20. Oh don't worry at all - I know it was coming from a protective and good place. Thank you!
  21. No, he was definitely kidding
  22. Thank you so much for this, I think with the amount I have to lose and the struggles with portion control - I think bypass is the right choice for me. Its weird but the program I am in just will not recommend one surgery over another, they leave it entirely up to me so I've been waffling a bit, which isn't like me. I know my surgeon will support my decision so I am glad about that - he told me I could change my mind while they are wheeling me into surgery if I wanted!

    Toxic relationship with food

Food was love and soothing for me. My mother was untrustworthy in her affection and food always helped me feel safe, secure and loved. Yikes! I started therapy a week ago to hopefully deal with some of this baggage. But food is definitely an issue!
