Tomorrow I'm exactly one month post-op and been looking at doing more exercise besides random small walks during the week or hours long walks on the weekend.

Anyone with any tips for when you were about 1 month out? I know I'm not fully cleared yet to do any weight training or too heavy activities.

When I was 1 month out I was cleared to cycle on flat roads (no hills). It was amazing to change it up from walking.

Thanks for responding. My husband is very supportive and it happened to be a situation that I’m sure I’m going to be in a lot whether it’s home or work. I’m glad I was able to overcome. This was not a negative situation and my family shouldn’t have to suffer because of my personal demons a.k.a food. If they occasionally want to indulge in chic-fil-a, which is the worst we do in fast food, then I have to be okay with that. If I was not okay I would’ve said no when my hubby asked and he would’ve eaten later without me or dropped me off. Either would’ve been inconvenient options so it is what it is. As for packing healthy Snacks it wasn’t that kind of party nor was that on my mind when getting 3 and 2 year old girls dressed and hair done to leave the house. My husband is my biggest fan when it comes to weight loss and this journey and I’m sorry if others don’t have a supportive spouse. That is simply not my case.

Good to know. It is really hard to tell in posts. It gets SUPER hard when you'll actually be able to eat foods so we're just looking out for you. It is impressive that 6 days out you are out and about and as active as you are! Sounds like things are going great!

A lot of people may disagree but I seem to be in the same boat as you, it amazes me at how many people's SOs on here are totally unsupportive of their partner's wls/decision to lead a healthier life. Makes me relieved that I live alone and reminds me what I do and do not want to look for in a future partner. I remember reading a bit ago that we share over 80 percent of our meals with our future partner so you better make sure you choose the right one who is on the same page as you. I've been in that boat before, having a partner that eats **** food/makes poor food choices while you're trying to be healthy is major strain on the relationship and probably a lot of people's downfall when it comes to weight loss.

Totally agree! My bariatric support group meets every 2 weeks and the #1 breakdown is people saying their partners aren't supportive in their choices. Very interesting stat you posted!

That's perfect make the kids and dad starve because you all went out together and you can't eat what they can. Yeah the bring along healthy Snacks is a great idea but being 6 days out I'm sure no one was thinking of it. It's a new experience for everyone and they have to learn as things come up. If she didn't have an issue with it than it's a win for everyone. Sorry you got bitter at her experience and probably would have been angry if your significant other made the same suggestion.

It was a suggestion to carry healthy snacks....and unless she lives in the Sahara there is a grocery store on every corner and since everyone was STARVING they could run in and have some fun finding healthy snack options ..hopefully before they all passed out from serious starvation. Spousal support is huge and it's huge to find alternatives to break bad patterns and habits. And yes, I would be upset with my spouse if he did that, however, he's 100% supportive because WE get the journey and how hard this is and the lifestyle changes and decisions we need to make TOGETHER. And...personally.....you don't need to attack me and my post....if you don't like someone's opinion then kindly Piss Off.

  5. First, good for you. But seriously....you aren't even 1 week post surgery and your husband "had" to take the kids and himself for fast food with you? Perhaps you could learn to say "no" next time he asks and start to show your family that their support is critical in this journey. Go home and fix a healthy snack or carry healthy snack options with you for the family. Sorry but I just found the post more shocking with you being 6 days out of surgery.

Well, I was active in my late teens and early twenties but then went I started gaining weight everything halted, so I was not active at all in the 4/5 years (I’m 26 now). I work out 7 days a week and try for an hour. It was going great, it’s only in the last couple of weeks I can’t manage to do the full hour 🤦🏻‍♀️. Yeah you’re def right on the Protein, how do you get so much in? Like I have a shake for Breakfast, then lean meat and veggies for lunch and some sort of white fish for dinner with again veggies. I am allowed carbs but with barely getting the Protein in, I don’t want to waste my little space on food I don’t actually need? Do you supplement?

My nutritionist made me add a 1more protein to my day since I'm very active. I am extremely "boring" with my food. I keep it boring and simple and have worked so hard to look at food as a fuel not as having to be exciting. So..... I start my day with eggs whites (14g), My Snacks are 2 times a day ,small yogurts with 1/2 scoop protein powder in it (10g) . lunch is yellow fin tuna or tuna in general (16g), dinner Sauteed Shrimp(21g), and because I don't put garbage on my food (very plain) I have 1/2 a pure protein during the day (15g). That gives me about 76 easily. I have steamed broccoli typically with lunch and dinner. I'm up super early so my fueling starts around 6am and I'm done my last snack at 730pm ish.

  7. I am 2.1 months post op and I'm working out over 1-2 hrs a day 5 days a week, hitting 10K steps and energy is up. I would be curious to know how active you were prior to the surgery?. I was almost 300lbs and ran marathons and cycled etc so my body was "used" to the regime.

If you weren't super active prior to the surgery, that could just be your body just needing a little rest and adjustment. The big change of the surgery then changing working out is a HUGE adjustment. Congratulations btw.

I stick with minimum 70G -80G of Protein a day (never under 70g) and my 700 calories a day are "VERY" clean calories like fishes, egg whites etc with no garbage on them and veggies (so small carbs). So I'm getting plenty of food/fuel. If you are 40g of protein at times that is way too low (maybe try to be consistent).

Again, I think it depends on how active you were prior to surgery.

Congratulations though, I think it's awesome that you "want" to work out and exercise and are looking for solutions! You obviously have a great mindset!

  8. Hey! We have the same surgery date. I just experienced last week a "stall" where I lost 1 lb. I was mortified. The stall ended though on day 7. I'm consuming about the same amount as calories as you and I too work out 1hr at least a day. I also add in 10000 steps a day so I'm moving during the day alot. The only difference I see is that I consume over 70G of Protein a day up to 80g. I eat fish alot, it's high in protein and low in fat. For Breakfast I stick with Egg whites which is high protein too. I will also add a scoop of plain protein to my yogurt Snacks to bump it up. When I don't have at least 70g of protein I am STARVING. My nutritionist told me it's because I'm working out hard and more active than most. So if you like fish, it's a great protein option. I am down 46lbs since surgery ....and I started heavier than you so honestly I think you are right on par with where you should be weight wise. Try the protein increase and see if the hunger goes away (it should).

  9. The only person who knows is my husband. I have set some big fitness goals (ironman etc) and been vocal about them. I'm exercising a lot, basically I've done a full 180 to my lifestyle (cycling daily, swim lessons) and I think when you do that, people just don't ask questions because they just assume it is parallel to the lifestyle change. As to why I haven't told anyone other than my husband.....it's private. I don't know the medical details of anyone in my circle so why share mine? I have a food psychologist I work with and I am part of a bariatric support group that respects privacy so the support I get is very healthy and good.

  10. Here is a suggestion...instead of going to the state fair where every single terrible food you used to indulge in and likely will always still have an addiction or habit of wanting........ take up exercising, or go for a walk somewhere else. I don't know why you would want to put yourself through that less than 1 month after surgery? this is a life change and why choose sadness? Make better choices and take advantage of a new lifestyle by doing new things!

  11. My doctors cleared me end of week 2 to do 30 minutes of cycling (on flat roads) by week 4 I was cleared for Golf, running, and anything else I felt like doing. They only asked that i add in 1 extra Protein serving and monitor the color of my urine to make sure I was staying hydrated on the days I worked out. I don't push it, I listen very carefully to my body.

  12. I went back and read some of your previous posts.....you said "I ate 5 pieces of dark chocolate, some ice cream, and a chocolate chip cookie all in one day" and another post you mentioned eating a "brownie" and trailmix. It really sounds like working with someone in the therapy field to help you work through triggers and habits and understanding why you make those choices would really help you. It's a very hard journey (I am only week 5) and the biggest lessons I've had so far have been from understanding how I became this size in the first place, it's like going through withdraw. You can do this!

  13. I work with a psychologist. He has told me since day 1 that the surgery is a tool ONLY and all the habits, triggers, and addictions will still all be present...they don't go away and unless you are self aware of the "why" it triggers it can be very hard. It's about working with a professional to figure it out. Talk to your doctors and get a great referral for a bariatric psychologist.

  14. Just passed the 1 month surgery mark. I travel a lot for business and I had an entire strategy about sitting at the back of the planes, trying to secretly put on the seat belt extender, super humiliated if someone sees me do it, and overall just felt really terrible even using one. Today I flew without one on 2 different airlines. No one except me knew why I was smiling so much upon take off. Bye Bye Seat Belt extender!
