  2. I'm less than 320 for the first time in many many years. I honestly cannot remember when. The lowest I can remember being is 325 back in 2015, but less than 320!?! I'm just over three weeks post-op and I'm down a total of 64.2 pounds lost since June 29, 2018, when I first saw the surgeon.

  3. I decided to stay in town for a couple of days to make sure I did not have to drive 4 hours to the emergency room if there was an issue. So good so far... I'll be heading home tomorrow and getting my dog out of puppy jail in the afternoon. (-:

Congrats! Recovery is easier at home since there will not be anyone stopping by every time you try to sleep!

Resting, yes, but I'm staying in town tonight because I'm still a bit high on the pain meds. I'm at the hotel now and exhausted... I need a nap and I have homework to do for school. I think the nap takes priority.

I had to stop and buy food for the stay. I've never bought baby food before so I had no idea what to expect. I got some chicken and some green beans, then some SF jello and SF pudding, protein shakes, and some yogurt. I think that will make it until tomorrow afternoon when I try to drive home...

Thanks for the kind words. I appreciate it!

  5. I may be going home today... I'm nervous about having to come back, since it is so far from where I live to this hospital and I do not want to go to the local hospital if I can help it...

  6. My small bowel seemed to be asleep last night but it appears that it may have woken up and is now functioning like it should. I may be able to be discharged tomorrow (Sunday) or hopefully by Monday!

  7. I have the hiccups and they are keeping me awake now...

  8. Surgery went well and I'm so far able to tolerate drinking water and eating SF jello. I think I'm finally out of the fog of anesthesia drugs. The pain is less than I was expecting, compared to what I remember of the surgeries last year.

How much Jello can you take in? I take 2 bites and can't take in any more.

  9. Four hours until surgery and I cannot sleep... I'm actually a bit nervous...

  13. I weigh less than 350# for the first time in over a year (naked, on my unofficial scale at home)! I am using the medical office scale at work as my interim official scale (until I get back to my surgeon's office) and I weighed 351# this morning. This is a big milestone for me, since I was stalled for a while in the pre-op phase at 352#.

Congratulations! One of my twins will graduate in December, too!

I started my master's at 50, so I know how hard college is for the non-tweener crowd!

  15. In a few hours, I will be traveling to Salt Lake City to see f'n Slayer! I'm so stoked, I cannot sleep... (-:

Also playing at the concert are Behemoth, Testament, Lamb of God, and Anthrax. I have VIP access for Lamb of God and Anthrax, which means I will be able to stand on the side of the stage for the first three songs for LoG and the first four for Anthrax!

  17. I got the word yesterday from my surgeon my CT scan of my liver shows no damage and I am negative for portal hypertension. He said if I had portal hypertension that he would not operate on me. So, I'm in! Onward and upward! I'm down 30 pounds as of today and I'm 29 days out from surgery. This is a great day!

My pre-op diet was for one week only. I can't imagine 4 weeks, let alone 6 weeks. You're bound to lose a lot of weight prior to your surgery date. How did you decide on a sleeve vs a bypass?

    3. macadamia

      macadamia

The doctor decided for me. I have other abdominal issues (which I have not revealed as of yet, but I will soon, I promise) that prevent the bypass surgery. I pretty much knew that it was either the sleeve or just do the diet plan and no surgery. I'm quite okay with this choice - I do not want my surgery to be reversible. And, actually, it has not been that bad. I do not actually feel hungry, but I'm fighting with head hunger each day. I've been strong so far and my weight loss to date shows that. That is a great motivation for me to keep from stopping at each fast food place that I used to stop at on the way home from work. What I really miss, though, is the Thai yellow chicken curry from the local Thai place. Oh boy, is it good! I need to learn a recipe that I can eat all of the ingredients and make it myself.

Ooooh, I'm a green curry girl, myself!

  18. Correction on my surgery date: it is September 6th, not 4th. I'm currently doing the 4-week pre-op diet, limited to less than 800 calories with greater than 90g protein. I've got this!

do you have a vitamix? https://www.vitamix.com/us/en_us/Recipes/Tortilla-Soup?referer_st=&sc=recipe

This one is very tasty. You can use this recipe regardless of whether or not you have a Vitamix. You can cook the ingredients on the stove top and mix it in the blender to smooth it out.

    3. TakingABreak

      TakingABreak

Sorry, I got carried away about the recipe! But, thank you! I know you will also be very successful!

    4. macadamia

      macadamia

I do not have a vitamix, nor will I be buying one after seeing the price! Ooooof! I have a Kitchen Ninja system that works fine and yes, I can cook the soup without needing to run a mixer for 6-7 minutes to "heat" it up... Thanks for the recipe - I think I can modify that with foods I like and can eat. I appreciate it!

  19. I have been told unofficially that my surgery date is September 4, 2018. I have my official pre-op appointment today at 11:30. Updates and my full story (that I have promised) once my surgery date is official. That should be at my appointment today.
