rebchief got a reaction from Frustr8 in Has anyone had surgery using Robotic Da Vinci?
I am having the procedure done with the DaVinci robot next Friday. My doc said that, like an earlier poster said, the arms have "joints" and can move more easily than the straight arm of the laparoscopic wand. Also in regards to the stapler, if the robot doesn't feel the adequate tissue needed, it will not staple.

I am drinking the LaBrada shakes pre-op and will be drinking them post op along with other avenues of Protein,

The chocolate tastes almost like a YooHoo. Salted caramel is ok too. NOT a fan of mocha.

I know I am VERY new to this great community but would appreciate any prayers given. I am excited yet nervous. Gotta be there early. The surgeon is calling everyone in earlier than normal tomorrow. My original time was 0645. Using the DaVinci system with the proctor present. See you all on the flip side.....

I tried sleeping in my bed the first night, but that didn't happen; it hurt. I ended up sleeping upright on the couch with my feet propped up on my ottoman for 2-3 nights. After that, I was able to sleep in my bed again. I also am a side/stomach sleeper, and I was able to return to that position quickly. Just try it, and if it hurts, adjust. Your body will tell you if it's okay to sleep that way or not.

I slept in my bed. I don't have a recliner, so that wasn't an option. First 3-4 night I slept on my back, and then I was able to sleep on my side with one pillow wedged under my side and hugging another pillow.

I slept in the recliner two nights, then my bed with extra pillows. It was awhile before I could comfortably side sleep though.

I was in a recliner for a couple weeks. Had a hiatal hernia repair at the same time though. That tends to refer pain into the left shoulder which is the side I loved, could ONLY, sleep on. Now I can sleep all which ways lol, but yes, recliner for 2 weeks ish. Hug, hope you begin to feel good soon.

I am exactly 1 week post-op today. Last night was the first night I was able to sleep in my bed. I slept on my side, propped with pillows so as not to roll onto my stomach at all. I have been sleeping in our recliner since I got home from the hospital on Saturday.

rebchief reacted to Matt Z in Hit a plateau!
That's considered a stall. Plateau's are generally when you are close to your lower limits and you get stuck there pretty much forever, so let's hope this isn't a plateau.

Are you tracking body fat % as well? Are you working out? Bodybuilding/weight lifting? What's your daily intake vs burn look like? Are you tracking intake? Hows your Water?

Something VERY important to factor is your BMR. Basal Metabolic Rate, the amount of calories you burn in a day just by being alive, think in a coma, alive but not moving, that's your BMR. BMR drops as you get older and it drops as you lose weight. https://www.active.com/fitness/calculators/bmr
If I assume you are 6 foot, starting weight of 408, starting age of say 35 would put your BMR at 3285 calories per day. Dropping that 408 to 330, with the same height and age, drops that BMR to 2799 calories per day. That's just shy of 500 calories less burn per day now. So, you can see, as we get older and thinner, it keeps getting harder to maintain the same speed of weight loss. We need to either increase our exercise or decrease our caloric intake, or both.

    Hope that helps some.

@rebchiefI love the Syntrax Nectar Line and the Pure Protein Bar but the ONLY flavor I like is the chocolate salted caramel. The other flavors, I was not a fan! There is so much out there. It's pretty much trial and error and stick with what you like Good luck Friday. I have my revision tomorrow.

After surgery, I switched over to Unjury Protein powders. It is a whey protein isolate especially formulated for bariatric surgery as is better absorbed by your new sleeve. I was on Premiere protein prior to surgery, but it felt to thick. I enjoy their unflavored and classic chocolate the best. They have a starter kit which is perfect for your first order. It's a sample pack of flavors so you can see which you like. They sell online or at some pharmacies.

I'm a huge fan of costco Brand (Kirkland) Protein bars. I like the chocolate chip cookie dough and brownie. They recently added a cinnamon roll and Peanut Butter one too. I think they are similar to the Quest bars.

rebchief reacted to sillykitty in Pre-op diet question. Please help!
I think this take is a bit extreme.
Many of us, including myself, had no pre op diet. So it certainly isn't a necessity. I'm not saying go against Dr.'s orders, but this isn't something universally agreed upon by Bariatric surgeons like "protein first". Also the OP's description of being forced to buy dehydrated food isn't the norm, and sounds worse than the normal pre op diet.
I have never felt "starved, angry, emotional", at all. Well only emotional when I'm losing my hair by the handful maybe. This isn't some kind of torturous process, for me at least. I have never lost weight so easily before in my life.

Been seeking it since August 2015, a lot of twists, turns, a few roadblocks, quagmires, and a rollercoaster of emotion, in 6 weeks I'll have my satisfaction. I am ready to make my remaining years better, healthier, thinner and I hope fitter. That last for a redheaded post-menopausal broad might not be achievable, but I will try very hard.
