  1. I hope that you and your father can both be as comfortable as possible. With a sick parent, it can be so hard to find the time and energy to take care of yourself. But be grateful for this time with him. I finally started the ball rolling on my WLS after my mother passed from ALS. I am still glad I had the time with her at the end even though I put my own life on hold temporarily. It’s obvious you are a strong person. You’ll pull through this. [emoji177]
  2. @Brownidamy4 I had some luck with crushing pills and mixing them with a tablespoon of protein shake. Then I took it in a few small bites that didn't taste too bad. Good luck finding a system that works for you.

    July Sleeve

My surgery went smoothly according to my surgeon and I am recovering as expected - lots of discomfort but nothing over the top. So far, so good. A word of advice for everyone- Avoid being in the hospital over the 4th of July. Even in my fancy NYC hospital, operations broke down. Everyone was shocked when they couldn’t send me home with my meds because the pharmacy was closed for the day. WTF?! After a scramble we found some liquid painkillers for me.

    Happy 4th!!.. I'm So F**king Over Broth!!!

Congratulations on how far you've come and how far you are going to go. I'm another Brooklyn Sleever, surgery on July 3. I'm also over broth!
  5. Me,too. I had surgery on July 3 and I'm trying to get it together at home today. The worst part is getting all my pills down. The ones I got at the hospital and the antidepressants I took already. The pain meds make me sleep and then I fall behind on my fluids. It's hard.

    July Sleeve

This is day 9 of my pre-op protein shake diet and I’m down 12 pounds. Is it weird that I’m wondering if I should just keep doing this and skip the surgery? I’ve never lost weight so fast.
  8. I’m 2 years behind you. I’ll be with Dr. Ren Fielding on July 3. Any advice?
  9. Is anyone here doing their surgery at NYU Langone in NYC?

    July Sleevers...Holla!

I haven’t told a lot of people either. I’ve heard so many people make negative judgements and tell horror stories about weight loss surgery. Not first hand experience, of course. I just don’t want to be defending my decision to everyone, or even worse, doubting my decision. On the other hand, my father was one of the people I dreaded telling but, when I did, he was surprisingly okay with it. He’s usually a real suck it up and pull yourself up by your bootstraps type. I suppose once I start losing a lot, I’ll have to tell people something. What are you all planning to share or not?
  11. I was thinking about using StitchFix or another clothing subscription service so I could get clothing in progressively smaller sizes without buying things that I could only wear briefly. Has anyone tried this approach? How did it work out?
  12. I’m actually not till July 3, but I had to start my liquid diet this week.
  13. Well I messed something up there. I’m on day 3 too and counting on it getting easier. Hang in there!
  14. We’re on the same schedule. I’m counting on it getting easier in the next few days. I’m already sick of the protein shakes. Hang in there,@JayBSoFla !

Perspectives on Losing Fast & Slow

I totally relate to the frustration of stalls and even periods of weight gain that this graph shows. I found something that helped me deal with it the last time I was losing weight. There’s an app called a Happy Scale that uses statistical averaging to show you what your weight loss would be if you factored out the bloated days, etc. It gives you a smooth curve on the graph. It helped me a lot.

I’m having a VSG on July 3, at least that’s the plan. My feet are getting a bit chilly. I came here to find a community I can talk to about this whole process. Everyone seems so compassionate so far.
  18. @Cb1986, it’s scary going under for the first time but anesthesia has come a long way. You should be just fine. [emoji846]
  19. I am scheduled for a gastric sleeve on July 3 and still wondering if I’m making the right decision, but my knees are giving out so I need to act fast. I’m on day 3 of my all protein shake diet. 11 more to go. Sigh!
