  1. I waited until my one week post op appt with my surgeon. My husband was with me and of course he had to ask! We were told as long as I'm feeling up to it then go ahead...just be gentle! The last thing you want is to get your insides bounced all over the place 😄

  2. You are not alone! I had surgery Jan 9th and went through the same thing! It will pass. The first 2 weeks were rough just being on liquids and feeling so bloated, like I was 10 months pregnant, the gas pains :( , "growling" (gurgling) stomach, the second guessing my decision and fear of failure...yep...pretty common! Keep coming to this forum and read others testimonies so you know you are not alone!

Are you sure the pill is still there. It may be that it has scratched your throat which is causing the discomfort.

YES! I actually felt it when I stuck my finger down my throat to induce vomiting 😫 but it wasn't in a position where I could sweep it out.

  4. OMG am I the only one who has had the misfortune of getting pills stuck in their throat? I've never had a problem taking pills before. Tonight is the third time I've gotten one stuck in my throat and I don't know why. Im taking it with plenty of Water. It's hard not to panic when you feel it and start getting a burning sensation. I walk around, sip water, sip warm liquid (all things my surgeon's office told me to do) and it doesn't help. I then ate a few small pieces of bread with Peanut Butter on it (again, recommended by surgeon's office). Tonight I tried making myself throw up and when I stuck my finger down my throat I actually felt the pill but it wasn't where I could scoop it out. Instead, I gagged and threw up liquid but no pill! Anyone else?

I'm now, unbelievably, 11 weeks post op! where did the time go? I'm a slow learner and a very slow loser! ha ha

But, I can confidently say that solid foods make such a difference! I was experiencing everything you have all said during the earlier days of post op. Now, as long as I have the right combination on my dinky little weeny plate, then by the time I've eaten the Protein bit I'm really too full to eat much more. So, I am having some of the veg/salad on the plate as well just so that I don't get completely bored with plain Protein.

Still learning, and still very much in the 'OMG, I'm going to fail at this and do it all wrong'... I'm freaking out every damn time I eat something that isn't 'good'! I've become obsessed and guilt ridden because of my slow loss.

But, I keep having to remind myself that the scale is going down, I did have a band before revision to sleeve and I am freaking old! ha ha

    It's a marathon not a sprint for me ... x

    Thanks for sharing!

  6. I'm not crazy about the Protein Shakes myself, they all seem to leave an aftertaste however I came across a "recipe" on Pinterest for a Butterfinger Protein Shake that is delicious! I use one vanilla Premier Protein shake, one tbsp. sugar free butterscotch pudding mix, and one tbsp. PB fit Peanut Butter powder...mix together real good and allow to chill so the pudding sets up a bit...DELICIOUS!!!

  7. So here I am 2.5 wks post-op, on pureed foods, and trying to get in enough liquids and Protein but it's not easy. Before surgery I loved Water, always kept a huge mug of ice water with me and chugged it all day long. NOW I don't like the taste of it! I thought maybe the filter on my water faucet wasn't working properly so I started drinking bottled water that someone bought...nope...still does NOT taste good to me :( How does that happen?!

I had surgery 12/20 and no one told me I would feel ravenous ! U get very hungry on liquids and purées because once the inflammation goes down the liquids go right through! U don’t feel the restriction of the sleeve until U start eating real food , fish , steamed vegetables and fruit . That said I still do one shake a day because I can’t eat enough to get all my Protein in . You will feel the restriction at a month plus .. no worries

Thank you so much for your reply! That is a relief because I was thinking something didn't go right with my surgery :o

Had my surgery on 1/10 and started full liquids on the 18th. The last couple of days I have also felt hungry. I’m a little concerned because I’m eating my 2 ounces of food and it doesn’t make me feel full. I’ve decided I’m not getting enough Water - so focusing on that. It’s tough but I’m powering through this. Can’t wait until the 30th when I can have mashed potatoes. Really hoping they make me feel full. I feel your pain.

I'm eating 4 oz of pureed foods right now and I DON'T feel full on that! I was freaking out about it until I read other's comments regarding not feeling restriction until you get to solid foods. As far as water...I used to love it before surgery, drank lots of it everyday, but now I don't like the taste! How does that happen?!

I had my surgery on Jan 9th too! My doctor put me on two weeks of Clear Liquids which included milk. This has been key for me...I take a four cup measuring cup and pour in three cups of FairLife skim milk (13 grams per serving) and mix that with one bottle of chocolate (or vanilla) Pure Protein Drink (30 grams per serving). This equates to 69 grams of protein and 35 ounces of liquid. I pour some in a glass and drink one in the morning and one in the afternoon and finish the little bit that is left later in the day. It is like drinking chocolate milk around the clock! I am getting in my 60+ grams of Protein a day and taking in a decent amount of liquids as well. Maybe this will be something you can do to mix up the liquids that you are currently taking in.

That sounds delicious! Thank You :)

You know what I would like today- know I can't have it - Martin Luther King Weekend- no public transportation in my beknightened locale- collard or mustard greens in pot liquor, a little ham either real or Turkey to flavor it. Been on liquids and purees too long, my mind is "writing checks" my body and especially Precious Pouch refuse to cash. I'm still not quite as bad as my Brittle Diabetic friend Ellis. Told me one day " As soon as my sugar levels stabilise I'm gonna get a giant sundae with hot Fudge, whipped cream and a Maraschino cherry!" All I could think to retort was " And won't THAT do you a world of Good!" Blood sugar of 500-600 and THIS TIME you might not live through it!
Someday I Shall have my greens , a piece of corn bread 2 inches square, and I'll Keep it all down. You got to have a dream, if you don't got a dream, how ya gonna have a dream come true? That's Bloody Mary's song from South Pacific, in case anyone wants to know. I have so much music in my head that sometimes it bursts forth!🎼🎶

You are too funny! Always a great sense of humor in your replies :) I have to ask what is "pot liquor?"

kygirl - absolutely love your graphic icon! Hang in there - it WILL get better! Your feelings are totally understandable and normal.

Give your new tummy/stomach grace as it needs to heal from the trauma and all liquids is soothing and key internally. You are in the most daunting phases, no doubt. It was in those times I'd review my bullet list reasons for having surgery. And, when your eating phase does progress - cottage cheese never tasted better! ;]

Another hope and promise, at least for me, was to purchase two excellent, quality food bariatric cookbooks by Sarah Kent. I hated all the artificial tasting liquids from too sweet, bland or chalky. It gave a glimpse into favorite dishes edited for the new sleeve tummy. I have used her cookbooks through-out all phases which made things bearable. I am currently in week 5 of soft foods which I and my husband (fit and lean) are enjoying together. I am only able to eat ¼ cup at each meal, but again understanding the healing process of this vital organ while encouraging it to slowly regain its' function to digest + absorb solid foods for caloric health and well being.

kygirl, I have found that this surgery is not for the faint hearted. It requires much grace toward your body and a determined kind of patience. Ergo, be good to yourself and pace accordingly. Tomorrow and the future will indeed take care of itself. You can do this! It will get better...

Thank you so much for your reply!...very comforting :) I do feel better today mentally and will continue to visit this forum for encouragement! I will take a look at the cookbooks you mentioned as well. Here's to a successful and awesome 2019!

  13. Hello everyone! I finally had my surgery on January 9th! Everything went very well, no complications...no nausea, no real pain other than the expected gas discomfort. Spent one night in the hospital and home the next day. Within a couple days time I started feeling anxious about what I just did to my body 😞 and could not stop thinking about food! I got to thinking that I'm never going to be able to eat my favorite meals again which caused me to get all worked up. I then started fearing that I'm going to be a failure at this 😢 I did 3 days of Clear Liquids post op and I am now on full liquids for 10 to 14 days. Please tell me these feelings are normal 😩

  14. I work in medical billing and deal with insurance companies ALL DAY LONG! First off, if you didn't get this agreement with the doctor's office in writing, then you are S.O.L. in that regard. Secondly, it can take a year or longer for medical offices to finally get payment from insurance companies. It is an extremely frustrating process. Insurance companies will repeatedly come up with one reason after another to not pay and drag it out EVEN WHEN THE PROCEDURE IS PRECERTIFIED BY THEM! That being said, you should've been following up with your insurance company all along and looking over your EOBs to see what was getting paid etc. I definitely recommend starting there.
