  1. My surgery is also July 30th. Wow only the shakes and vitamins?
  2. Good day Today I began my 2 wk liquid diet. I have to take 3 shakes a day, (Proti Max) which I purchased at my doctor's office, and a light meal. In following my doctor's suggestions to the T, I chose to buy the frozen kind. (I.E. Lean Cuisine, Smart One, Healthy Choice) Now with some simple math, that's about 100 calories per shake, (3 shakes x 100 calories = 300 calories) and the meals I purchased, none have over 200 calories. That would give me a 500 calorie input per day for 14 days. I'm hoping for some weight loss during these two weeks before surgery. How much weight did you all loose? What was the most difficult part of this two week diet?
  3. Me too! I start my 2 week diet Monday.
  4. I did research for about 2 years before I made up my mind on what to have and go see the surgeon. I researched the surgeons in the area and their success records. When I went to my appointment, I knew exactly what I wanted and Dortor Pohl agreed with me. I found that a large amount of people that got the sleeve went back years later to get the RNY. I knew what I wanted and that this was a final decision. So its what I'm getting. I don't know why it sais I'm self pay. I have to fix that. I pay for my insurance $334.00 a month and my co payments and out of pocket expenses are crazy, so in a way I am paying a lot, but my insurance covers most of it.
  5. Hi, Yes a two week pre-op diet. Yes I knew why, but thanks for the info. It's good in case anyone else reads it and does not know why. About the caffeine addiction. I weaned my self out of it. I was drinking 6-10 cups of coffee everyday. Black. I knew that I was not going to be able to drink it post-op and did not want to suffer any headaches or anything else, and I hate decaf. I mean, if it has no caffeine, why drink it?) So I started only drinking 5 cups a day for 2 weeks, then I went to 4 and repeated until I reached 1 cup a day. Then, I did that for 1 week and the following week only half a cup for 2 weeks. Then I began skipping a day without coffee, then 2, then 3 and so on. Will I pick it up afterwards? Um??? Maybe, but not to where I was. A good cup a day will be good.
  6. Good luck! It IS getting VERY excited.
  7. What a great idea! Thank you and I will. My surgery date is actually July 30th. I start my liquid diet on the 16th.
  8. Is it just me, or did anyone else feel this excited to have their pre-admission testing date arrive? It make this so much more real. Like I'm not dreaming and this is really happening! This is just like the night before my wedding rehearsal

I've always been a happy person. My motto is "Happiness & Joy" I'm happily married and the mother of 4 grown children. I am also the grandmother of 3 beautiful and active little girls. It is for them and the grandchild that's due this Christmas 2018, that I decided it was time to get healthy. I want to run with my husband! (He is a marathon runner.) I want to play sports with the kids and make sure my grandchildren grow up in a healthy and active lifestyle. These are pictures of my happy self and happy moments... Very soon I will have a new album of my happy & healthy self.
  10. Don't worry. You've come far and overcame little battles just to make it to this day. Tomorrow is your grand day. Smile, you are about to open a new chapter in your life and your future looks so much healthy already. To keep your mind from racing too much, try reading a book or watching a scary movie. Play monopoly or dominoes. Do anything that keeps your mind away from any thought that might bring you stress. Go to sleep with some soft music or or an audio book. Keep us posted and please know that you will be in my prayers.
  11. Thank you so much, for your feedback and the work you do at the hospital.
  12. 7 day pre op! You are so lucky! I, like most of us have a 2 week pre op liquid diet. Personally I can't wait to start because that makes it so much closer to my surgery date. July 30th. Glad to have you join us. I find it so much easier to deal with all of this having so many of you to share with. Good luck. You got this!
  13. I have read that so many are having difficulties with their CPAPs and wanted to share my experience with it. I had my sleep study, as part of my requirements for the GB on April 2nd, this year. I can honestly share that my CPAP is my best friend. Before my CPAP I was lazy-tired and sleepy all the time. My libido was gone on vacation and did not even send post cards. I procrastinated on almost everything and had constant migraines. I was sleeping but not going into REM, so I was not rested. Now I’m a different person! I’m never home! At 5:30 am I’m up watering my plants and sipping my coffee. My libido is right back where it belongs and working overtime ; ) My house is spotless and I’ve even lost 20 lbs. I think that how you approach the whole “I have to sleep with a mask on” situation is the key. For me, it came as a surprise when I found out I had it. During my sleep test I had 65 events per hour! I was like WTF? When, how, why, me??? Then just like that I said f**k it. It is what it is. I was not going to let a mask get in between me and my GB, plus it was a requirement. I had posted some of my sleep test on my Snapchat and my cousin texted me to share her sleep apnea experience. She gave me some great advice. She recently lost 102 lbs with no surgery, just wearing her CPAP. She said, “take your time when you go for your measurements and CPAP equipment. Wear your mask a minimum of 7 hours per night. Lock your door when you go to sleep and do NOT let anyone disturb your sleep! Not even yourself with cell phone or tv.” When I went to get fitted for the mask and pick my equipment I finally picked AirSense 10 AutoSet by ResMed with a AirFit F20 full mask. I did try many out and believe me, I took my sweet time trying them with different pressures, closing my eyes and relaxing to picture myself in bed with the mask on. I believe the tech wanted to choke me at the end, but she was patient and kind. That afternoon I held a family meeting and laid the new law down. 1) If my door is closed and locked, do NOT knock on my door unless there is a fire or medical emergency! No excuses. 2) Do NOT call my cell phone after 8:00 pm, do NOT text me, do NOT email me. My cell is on silent and I WILL NOT answer. 3) Do NOT make loud noises. If I have to open my door y’all have hell to pay. 4) To my husband, if you wanna play you better be in bed before I put my mask on or wait till I take it of. (Did say it in a sweet way while smiling. For the record he loves it that I don’t snore and has threatened me to steal my CPAP for himself since I sleep so peacefully now and have so much energy) 5) No more babysitting past 8:00 pm! If grandkids are not picked up by then, don’t pick them up. They will be sleeping. ( My grand daughters, ages 10, 9 & 6 know its for my health and the cooperate and add brownie points with Gram Grams) So far it’s been great. I feel so good and even if I were not getting a GB (which I am this July 30!) I would still use it and recommend it. Reacquaint yourselves with your CPAP. Fall in love with it. Make it your best bud. It truly does help and when you look at it as something benefiting your health, you will open your mind and heart to it. Try out different sleeping positions. Use lots of pillows if needed. I use 7! 3 full sized, 3 squared and on long neck pillow. I use them under my legs and arms and my neck pillow and if you walk in and see me you would laugh your asses out, but it works for me and that’s all that matters. Do what’s best for you. This is your time. Your health. Your life. Give your CPAP a second chance and allow it to change your sleep.
  14. Wow there is so much I want to do! Let me focus on the top 10. 1) Run a 5k at my husband’s side.
