Ok y'all so I'm 6 months out and nothing remotely sounds appealing. Like even stuff I normally crave and love just ewwww nope. Like the most that even sounds ok right now is apple sauce and really anything soft. Nothing too dense. Help me y'all what is this nonsense

I went through that at 4 months. I hated everything. My nutritionist said its extremely common 4-6 months out and it would pass, it did.

  2. Thank you everyone for all of your suggestions and encouragement!!!!! I took a bit of advice from each one of you and things are finally on the move, since Tuesday of this week I have lost 4 lbs. I too believe I am carb sensitive, I have limited carbs to about 40-45G a day. I am also eating more calories. I am 5'8" so I don't think I was eating enough consuming only 750-780 calories a day, now I am consuming about 1000. I am still working out every day, but to see the scale move (down) for the time in a month, has lifted my spirits again!

I don't know if this helps, but my program allowed mashed potatoes. Well, I ate them and it halted my weight loss for 3 weeks. We decided for my body, that I can't have straight potatoes like that. Now I limit carbs to around less than 50g a day.

I ate them when my dr told me to but then i gained so I stopped eating carbs as much as possible, hasn't helped

Forgive me if you answered this already but are you tracking in an app like MyfitnessPal? Can you screenshot an example of say two random days weeks apart from when you stalled to when you jumped up?

I would screenshot, but on top of everything else my phone screen won't turn on so I had to get a new phone, it will be here Thursday

I can't see the post with the meals. But try to first eliminate anything highly processed, too calorie dense & with more than 5g or sugar per serving or with added non naturally occurring sugar.

These could be an early stalls/plateaus. But it is very early

You may be carb sensitive. I am too. I stalled early out, I still stall quite often and usually for long periods so I often revise my pretty pure diet to suit my needs at the time.

So eat nothing? I feel like thats my only other option at this point

RIght now for Breakfast I either have 1/2 cup cottage cheese, a poached egg, or a fat free greek yogurt.

for lunch I have. Canned chicken in a leaf wrap, Ground turkey with a little mustard and relish, or grilled chicken salad with tomatoes, banana peppers and feta cheese.

I will add a Protein Shake if I haven't hit my Protein goal.I have one lost weight one week out of the 7 I have been home.

I'm a little over 2 weeks post and have lost 12 lbs. Anyone else getting discouraged when you see others have lost much more than you during the same timeframe? I know we're all different and that I shouldn't compare myself to anyone else but my brain likes to torment me sometimes.

I completely understand i am 6 weeks post op and I have only lost 21 lbs most of that was lost in the hospital. Since I have been home I have only lost like 11 lbs and gained 3. I am following the menus the dietitian gave me and exercising every night, 45 minutes on the elliptical. I have been in tears most mornings. I don't know if the weight will ever start coming off, but I know I am going to keep busting my butt. Just keep your head up and keep going.

  7. Today was weigh in day, I only lost 4 oz, but I am taking it as a win!

I’m so sorry your having this frustration. Was wondering if you had tried to mix it up a bit. I know what the doctor told = Protein and carb but for me personally I’m doing 75% Protein 15% carb 10% fat every couple of days I’m switching the fat and carb I’m 4 weeks out on the 29 th surgery was 8/29/18. 😉 you will find out what works for you best. I was 236 when I left the hospital and today I’m 217.

I started off doing about 75/15 I figured that was better, less carbs less sugars, but when I went to the dietitian on the 12th of this month he said I wasn't eating enough carbs.

I am preop so I haven't experienced any of this yet. In my information packet it does tell me what to expect to eat afterwards. It says ear Protein first then it has a list of other options. The biggest difference it says is that you shouldn't go over 1000 calories a day!?!? I noticed you said you are eating 1500. Here is a link to my doctor's site. https://www.ucsfhealth.org/education/dietary_guidelines_after_gastric_bypass/

1500 in TWO days not per day.

Yes I use bariatrictastic. I posted two days of meals on the thread. I haven't really lost anything so I guess my stall would be from the day I came home on the 10th of August to like the 1st week of September and then I lost for about a week and then I gained 3 lbs. So I am not sure what time frame you're looking for?

I was having the same issue. I was almost three weeks out and lost 10 but gained 2 back. It puzzled me because I wasn’t hardly eating. Well, after I talked to my nutritionist we agreed that I needed to eat and drink more. Literally two days later I dropped 8 pounds. Maybe you should speak with your nutritionist.

see that is what is confusing to me. The dietitian said my carbs and Protein need to be equal. 70g protein 70g of carbs 70 oz of Water. I am only doing exactly what they are telling me.

  13. 6 hours ago, GreenTealael said:

Also 1 lb of fat is roughly 3500 calories, Check this against your BMR and caloric intake for say two days. You need a deficit of 7000 calories to burn 2lbs of fat.

The numbers that move around more often is due to Water influx and retention due to various changes, increased blood volume, hydration level, even non excreted waste (constipation) can add fluctuations in weight.

When the dust settles after a few weeks (to account for possible stalls) and you no longer weight in range of a specific point, take it as a true loss, (or gain)

Don't let the scale have so much control

My intake is approximately 1500 calories for 2 days. Per my guidelines I should be eating 700-1000 calories a day, I burn about 200 per day exercising.

My numbers do not fluctuate on the scale, I think that is why it is frustrating. It's not up and down. It didn't move at all for weeks and then it just went up. and has remained up for almost a week now.

Technically I have only lost about 5 lbs in the 6 weeks I have been home.

I’d definately ask your dr and bring in a few days of meals written out to see what you could tweak. It looks pretty good to me but maybe no mashed potatoes and just eat more Protein to fill your stomach. I am 8 weeks out and have trouble meeting Protein goals so I never get to the veggies or carbs. I’ll be the odd one and say that does seem like a long stall to me so close to your surgery and I totally get why you are frustrated. Are you exercising yet? I’m a slow loser so I added in a 1hr workout and weight loss increased to 3lb.

The mashed potatoes were on the menu the dietitian gave me. He looked at my diary and said I wasn't eating enough carbs, everything needs to be 50/50. I exercise every day. i either walk, treadmill or elliptical. I am only doing a 1/2 hours but that's mostly because I work until 5 I get to the gym at 5:30 then workout until 6 and have to drive home and make dinner for everyone and then myself. If I stay any later I won't be eating until 8.

Hi, I had the same issue as you. I came out of the hospital 5 lbs heavier than I went in! Then I didn't lose anything for 2 weeks and I was barely eating. However, I think while you are recovering your body simply shuts down a bit to conserve energy (read calories) that it needs to help heal you. Once I was fully recovered the weight started to come off pretty quickly (around 2 lbs a week) and consistently for about 6 months.

You'll get there, so don't lose heart or hope. It's a journey and unlike with dieting it actually does work:). Good luck.

Well I'm 6 weeks post op so I don't think it's a healing thing, but I'm going to give it another two weeks and then I'm calling the dr.

  16. Another pound gained at my weekly weigh in, guess I should only weigh in monthly! My nutritionist said I should not be gaining weight a month out and I have gained 4lbs, I'm at a loss, but whatever I'm doing what they said so F**k it!

I wouldn't worry, have you started eating differently / transitioning to normal foods? If so, this will cause this. As long as you are tracking your intakes and you are consuming less calories than you are burning per day, AND you are getting PLENTY of Water (upwards of 128oz minimum) then you'll be fine. Fluctuations happen, stalls happen, gains happen. Just stay on course and you'll be fine.

You have not failed. Unless you are eating all sorts of crap and aren't trying, then you haven't failed at all.

I have tried increasing my Water, I know you've mentioned that before, I'm just having a hard time getting Fluid in at work. I get 60 in and then another 20 when I get home, but I'm having a hard time getting more than that.

I am sure I'm not being more calories than I eat though. I have a desk job so my only exercise is my nightly walk.

Just need to vent. I am about 1.5 weeks out of gastric bypass. Things have been going quite well. Today I had a terrible day at work and went back to eating like before. Of course the difference now is “over-eating” is maybe eating a cup vs 1/4 cup. However, my stomach is killing me and I feel so sick. And disappointed with myself.

I know everyone on the forum says people should not complain about loss not coming fast or stalls. And I know I am literally 1.5 weeks out from surgery. But I have lost nothing. Same weight today as the day of surgery. You wait for months, go through specific diet, pain of surgery. I did go up after surgery and that is all gone now- but I keep hearing about people losing 10 pounds first week and I’m starting to feel like I did this for nothing. I was already doing weight watchers and trying to eat healthy and exercise. Will my results be any different if I had just kept doing that? Losing 1-2 pounds per week?

I try to be upbeat most of the time and think positively, but this day has just gotten to me. Just a bad work day which is killing my self confidence and making me feel useless.

    Tomorrow is a new day.

    Thanks for listening.

@MassMom I'm sorry you had a bad day. Tommorow indeed is a new day and I wish you a very good one!!

I completely understand, I am just over a month out and having lost jack sh*t. Everyone said your healing, it wasn't that, then it's Water weight. It wasn't that. Then I was told well your weight fluctuates, this is very true, but no in my case it was gain. 3 lbs in fact and its taken another week of extreme cardio just to loose 2 of the 3 lbs. I gained eating exactly whats on the menu the dietitian gave me. So finally I am back down to where I started, I wake up this morning and of course another 2 lbs gained. My gain wasn't anything other than gain, I don't know why or how, but it wasn't healing, or water, or Constipation. Moral of the story is hide your scale because it will make you crazy and take it easy because beating yourself doesn't work either. Just take one day at a time, it's all we can do.

Hey there, check the total sodium content for your days ( if you log( and where you are in your cycle, these things do affect your weight because they cause Water retention.

Also Constipation is like a false gain. food (by oz) goes in but doesn't all get converted to energy and if nothing is coming out, but should be, it'll look like your up 1 or 2lbs until it's resolved.

Well not to be TMI, but I don't have a cycle. I will try and watch the sodium though. I haven't had issues with constipation yet.

Did? Did expect to be successful?

You are only one month out from surgery. You will lose weight if you follow the program, do not let the scale dictate your mood or how you feel.

If you cannot differentiate between a temporary gain and an actual gain then take a break from the scale.

There will be times when you stall out, it is just part of the journey. I lost no weight almost the whole month of July, I understand how demoralizing it is, we all do.

I know some people are huge advocates of drinking tons of Water, but do your best. I’ve lost almost 150 pounds drinking what I can, some days 64 oz some days more. Some of us just can’t drink as much, just drink what you comfortably can.

Through it all, stay positive! I know for an absolute fact if you stick to your program in six months you will not believe the changes you see and feel!

    :1296_raised_hands_tone2:

Not to be rude, but people with metal health issues can't always control their mood or always be positive. I am here because this is suppose to be a supportive community not one who that dictates how to feel or states I have unrealistic expectations in one sentence then that I don't know how to differentiate between temporary and actual weight gain. What I said was how I feel, the frustration and depression not a lack of understanding or intelligence I thought that is what these forums are for. I apologize, but I have really found your posts hurtful.

Ok, so what Protein Drinks are you taking in--what's the nutrition on them specifically prot, carbs, Fiber, sugar alcohols, and sugars?? Are you already eating Protein Bars? What puree/soft foods are you eating. Give us 1-2 days sample menus please.

    Thanks!

(I personally gained TONS of Fluid in my ankles and left arm because my body doesn't tolerate an ALL-protein drink kind of diet even though my drinks were low carb. It wasn't until I was eating real meat Protein and veg that I really started losing anything significant.

I drink Premier Protein 30G Protein 1 sugar, but today the dietitian said I am only to use the Protein Shakes if I am not getting enough by food. I am not on the soft/pureed diet anymore. I am on regular foods. Protein bars aren't allowed yet.

Prior to today I was having a Protein Shake in the morning. Usually 2 oz of chicken, Zucchini noodles, and string cheese for lunch. dinner I had 2 oz ground turkey 1/4 mashed potatoes and 1/4 riced broccoli

Breakfast was always a shake. Lunch the starkist chicken creations, 1/4 green Beans, 1/4 cottage cheese. Dinner shredded chicken, black beans, salsa.

I weigh myselff naked first thing in the morning after going to the bathroom. I always follow this routine so my scale results aren’t skewed by other factors such as weight of clothes, time of day, or how much I eat or drink before getting on the scale. I also find that if I don’t have a bowel movement or have been constipated for a day or more that the scale may go up or not move. I find walking everyday helps keep me regular, which helps my weight on the scale.

Remember: post-bariatric surgery weight loss is a marathon not a sprint.

Good luck and keep the faith.

Yes same here, first thing in the morning I put the scale away now, and I walk every day.
