  1. And as a former (I hope!) binge eater, it's so weird and delightful not to feel that compulsion...
  2. Bessler had me on a liquid diet plus a little crunchy veggies for 2w pre-op. It was HARD but doable. And if that's what it took to lower the risk of surgical complications, well, I can do anything for 2 weeks. But doing the work to think through your emotional component with professional help, and thinking hard about what you'll replace that crutch with, will be key to getting through this and making it stick...
  3. It's been pretty good, Assya - the first 72h postop were hard, and then things have gotten steadily better. My energy is great, eating full foods (sticking to the plan of course!), In the gym semi-consistently for the first time in a long time, and feeling positive. With the heat just taking extra care to hydrate and moved my exercise indoors. All doable!

    Time to be honest!!!

Was shakes only for 2w, and my only cheat was six small pieces of calamari and a half-hour of wine (was leaving my old workplace right before surgery and it was my going-away party...hard to balance health and social norms sometimes!)

    June Sleevers Lets Get Excited!!!

Purple girl, that's certainly a possibility - as is not drinking enough, which also can cause nausea. Hydration is key, get your protein in, and get some calories in every 3-4h, even if not many.
  6. I used Marc Bessler at Columbia - I'm a physician so asked around and he is widely respected as a careful surgeon.
  7. It took me about 2w post op not to need a little nap. Keep walking, get your protein and water, and rest when your body needs it. You're healing from major surgery!

I use MyFitnessPal to log food, make sure I'm getting my protein; weight; and exercise.

Numbness in left side of left thigh

Lateral femoral cutaneous nerve dysfunction - very common following rapid weight loss (or weight gain). Harmless but annoying. Don't cross your legs, that can make it worse.

    June Sleevers Lets Get Excited!!!

I was 6/1, at 500-600 calories per day, about 70g protein, 48-72oz water

Anyone else have problems eating eggs?

Soft scrambled goes down pretty easily - 3w out from VSG

Any June 2018 Sleevers in Here?!

Almost 3w post, and went to the gym today for first time! Felt good - just some treadmill jogging and light weights, but no light headedness or any trouble!

    Struggling!!!

Yeah those first few days just flat out suck, and many of us sleeve that time fearing that we'd made a terrible choice. It gets better pretty quickly - now going on 3 weeks out and I feel so much better!

    Dumb question about over eating

I was you, but I have no interest in overeating anymore. Granted it's only 2w since my surgery, and learning new eating habits (and learning to believe that you don't need to!) is certainly part of the process.

    Despair

You’re not alone, and not alone with these challenges. Get a therapist and put in the work with them - it’s going to be critical to your success and well-being (emotional and physical).

    Yikes!

The pre-op diet is really hard! But you can do it, and it is worth it!

    Month By Month Weight Loss

The average estimate is something like 60% of our excess weight (the difference between our pre-weight and our so-called ideal weight)

HattieB, it sounds like for most of us it’s just the day of surgery and 1-2 days afterward that are the worst. Stay hydrated, walk as much as you can, and once you’re home make sure you’re getting your protein. You can do it!

    June Sleevers Lets Get Excited!!!

Good luck sparkle&storm. The worst will be over soon, and then you’ll be feeling better and on to the next step in your journey!

Yes muzikmiss - I’m finding that water on the nightstand and sipping from the getgo helps. I think it’s hard to stay hydrated, especially overnight!
  25. I didn’t lose much in my 2w preop (8lbs) but it’s coming off quickly post-op
