  1. So I’m about 18m post-op, below target weight, and now working on adding muscle. Have been working with a personal trainer, and exercising 3 days per week for about 45min-1h per session. My problem, or concern at least, is that for the rest of the day after a workout, I’m just WAY hungrier than I’m accustomed to these days! I’m not sure how much is head hunger, but it feels different I think for my typical daily head hunger that I’ve gotten so good at recognizing. Anyone with experience with this, or advice?

    Hunger and working out

Sleeve here. It’s been wonderful, no regrets. Just still figuring out this whole adding-muscle thing!

    Gastric bypass or sleeve

My experience with sleeve has been very positive! Now about 15 months post-op. 5’11, down from 286 to 171, best physical fitness of my life, no heartburn or major issues. So grateful for the surgery. Pros and cons to all the surgeries, but I’m grateful I was recommended to undergo the sleeve.

    Gastric bypass or sleeve

Happy with my sleeve, one year out. Glad not to have to worry about malabsorption, no GERD (VSG cured my heartburn), stable weight loss, feel great. Both surgeries can be excellent!
  5. 88% here. Exercise, hydrate, rest, and stick to the plan!
  6. Good luck - lots of support here for you!

    Starting purées/soft food

It will get better. You'll feel pretty normal (well, a new normal!) in a couple months. Stick to the program, protein first, stay hydrated, move your body, and let time pass. The worst is behind you!

    Non Scale Victories

Took a day off while traveling for work and climbed a mountain! No way I could have lugged my pre-op self up here

    Non Scale Victories

Strangely (to me!), I now don’t feel right unless I’ve gotten exercise! Went for a 4K run yesterday and felt so much better after! Lifting more in the gym now than pre-op - have gotten past the initial muscle loss. 1 year post-op and NO REGRETS!

Six months post-op+ : The Sophomores Thread

It’s hard for me to not fall into ruts and eat the same things prettty much every day (eggs, protein bars, veggie soup, Greek yogurt - lather rinse repeat)

    Non Scale Victories

My team made me get a new headshot and new website content - I'm a physician, and new patients were weirded out that I looked so different from what they expected :)

    ADD/ADHD Meds Post Gastric Bypass??

The patch supposedly works well - I’d recommend giving it a shot.

    ADD/ADHD Meds Post Gastric Bypass??

The absorption of ADHD meds after RNY is not totally well understood. There’s actually a clinical trial currently measuring vyvanse absorption to try to answer the question. Talk to your psychiatrist about changing to the transdermal patch!

    ADD/ADHD Meds Post Gastric Bypass??

    How far post-op are you?

Six months post-op+ : The Sophomores Thread

8 months post-VSG here, and officially 100lbs down (286 to 186). Weight loss still going at about a pound a week, but am way past my original target (219), off all BP meds, and feeling good. Still not spending enough time in the gym - got to focus on that next!
  16. Very happy with my sleeve - surgery 6/1, down 94lbs, feeling great. No regrets other than waiting so long.

    Chewable Multi Vites - thoughts?

Yep! Men's ultra mega for me, but same idea :)

    Chewable Multi Vites - thoughts?

I’ll second the GNC chewable multis. Cherry flavor is totally palatable. Those, vit D gummies, and sublingual B12 are my daily regimen.

    ONEderland!

Well, almost exactly 6 months post op (VSG 6/1) I weigh less than 200 pounds for the first time since...since I don’t know! College probably? Feel great, no longer stressed about getting my protein. At the gym 2 or 3 days a week, actually enjoy working out! Down 86 pounds, 10 inches in my waist (size 46 to 36), no longer snore, and have so much more confidence. My wife and kids are proud of me, for the hard work I’ve done and continue to do, and for taking care of myself. I’m off all meds, only taking vitamins (instead of 2 blood pressure meds). My work is scheduling new professional photos for me because I don’t look like the person in my old pics anymore. I always figured I’d be obese forever because I lacked willpower’s. I kinda figured this would fail too, despite my best efforts. But VSG does work - at least, it sure has for me!

    Surgery pain!

I had pain for a few days. This next two weeks will be hard, but you WILL feel better. Stay hydrated, get rest, walk, get your protein in, and let time pass and your body heal. The worst is behind you!
  23. If sitting makes it worse it is likely related to the disc bulges rather than your WLS.

    ONEderland!

Karl A, my surgeon gave me an estimate of 210. I'm sure he'll be glad I proved him wrong, and I'm not done yet either!

Can I still eat Halo Top?

Can you and should you are separate questions. It would probably go down fine, but whether you want to spend your precious room in your new stomach on halo top is another thing altogether. My nutritionist preferred I go with sugar free popsicles.
