    Anyone scared

Mandy1013, it gets better. The first two weeks are really hard, everyone has regrets, everyone! But you’ll start to feel better, the weight will start coming off, and you’ll remember why you made this choice, and you’ll be grateful you took this positive step for your long-term health.

What did you tell people at work?

I told almost nobody at work. Lots of questions about and praise for my weight loss, but I politely thank them for praise and, in response to questions, simply say “yep, working on it - it’s not easy, but so far so good” and leave it at that.
  3. Steel cut oatmeal with protein powder added. Greek yogurt, plain with swerve seeetener and vanilla added. Chili!

    Chewing

Never counted. Post-op it was just chew everything to smithereens, now 3m out its just chew things well.

    How old were you when?

42 after years of yo-yo and steady gain until surgery made sense.

    Do you snack?

I definitely snack. There’s not all that much difference for me yet between snacks and meals! Is a 1/2 cup of green yogurt a meal, or a snack? How about a protein bar? Either way, it’s eating 5-6 times a day. Protein first.

    Lessons learned

Never got cold - just wasn’t radiating heat so crazily at that point

Not sure - I think it wasn’t unusual, the nurses were prepared with bags of ice and cold packs. I assume it was post-op/anesthesia related

    Lessons learned

I was crazily overheated for like 6h coming out from surgery. Ice packs and a fan!
  10. Hi everyone - trying to plan ahead for Yom Kippur next week - 26h of fasting (food and water). Years past, I would stuff myself leading up to it, and then gorge at its end. Now being about 3 months post-VSG, I need a new strategy. No way to overstuff myself before or after - for better and for worse! Anyone with tips for a full-day fast after WLS?
  11. It took a solid week for me, jingle123423. Maybe 2. It gets better! Stay hydrated, keep walking, and put protein first. Rest. Stick to the plan!

    Failing

Add whey powder to anything and everything. Make your drinks protein drinks. One bottle of isopure water gets you 40g of protein before your day has even really started! A third cup of steel-cut oatmeal with protein powder, and you’re on your way!...

    Isopure zero carb

I struggled with all of them, but found that alternating milky and clear was a little better. Most of the isopure flavors were manageable - the colder the better! - but coconut was particularly nasty.

    Anyone try a burger??

I’ve had more trouble with burgers than most anything else. Got a “protein style” cheeseburger at In-N-Out (lettuce instead of bun) with the family, ate 2/3 of the patty, and it took hours for the sense of overfull tightness to pass

    Non Scale Victories

On vacation in Yellowstone, have had no knee pain hiking up and down and all around. And in the gift shop got a size L sweatshirt - bye bye, 2XL rack!
  16. If this is within a hospital, not a private practice, they likely have. Patient Representative - I would look to connect with the patient rep to tell them what happened. They can work with the surgeon and his staff to re-educate them and reinforce how important matters like this are.

    Feeling depressed today

There is so much healthy and delicious food that you can order at an Italian restaurant! Seafood is easy, shellfish (shrimp and clams come to mind), broccoli rabe and spinach sides, meatballs even! Ask for them just to bring a half-serving and package the rest to take home if you’re anxious about seeming like you’re not eating a full serving, or just order off the appetizers. And soup! Don’t forget soup! So many great and healthy food choices. Go, enjoy both the food and your family, and be proud of yourself!
  18. Just a quick food tip - most of us know that Greek yogurt is a good food choice after WLS (higher in protein, goes down easy), but many brands with any flavor have a lot of added sugar. Skyr Icelandic Provisions is a new label for me, with great stats: in a big single-serving container (250g), it has 130 Cal, 11g sugar, 2g fat, and 15g protein. And it tastes great! Enjoy!
  19. Sounds like unless you have terrible GERD that VSG makes perfect sense for you. Either will be successful I'm sure, p4esuming you're ready, mentally prepared and committed to making a healthy change. Good luck!

    Testing almost complete! EXCITED

Almost there! It'll be here before you know it!

How often do you weigh in?

I'm daily - every morning, after using the bathroom. No, my weight doesn't change much any given day, but it helps me mentally keep accountable for my food choices.

    Skyrim Icelandic Provisions

The Icelandic Provisions is flavored - if I'm home I use unflavored and add my own what-not, but for something so portable and flavorful, I'm happy to indulge!
  23. Didn’t see the poll, but I’ll just add that my reflux is better after VSG - I guess for me weight loss made more of a positive difference than the revised anatomy did a negative one.
