Going into 6 months post VSG and I fluctuate between 55 lbs and 53 lbs lost. I should be farther on in the process but to be honest I am not being as disciplined as I should be. here is me on my birthday a few days ago as compared to me just before I did VSG. I was SO thrilled to go into a regular store (not a plus size store) and buy this flower dress which is a size 16. I wore a size 22/24 dress at the date of surgery

Well geez. I am 3 months post op and I had a convention and had to eat out. I tolerate soft meatballs so I decided to buy 2 tablespoons of soft beef stew for lunch. Oh boy that was a disaster. When I left the mall and was driving to my event I had to pull over twice to vomit. My gosh did I feel sick for about 3 hours. awful awful awful. I just don't understand why at this point I cannot seem to get meats down. Its protein! And low carb which is important to me as a diabetic.
Has this happened to anyone before? it was projectile vomiting UGH!I am getting ready to Celebrate loosing 50 lbs!! Its only 1 lbs away. I am SO thrilled. I am traveling for the first time since my surgery to my 25th college reunion. Really hoping that I will be able to get by being overseas and no access to my usual go to foods. Guess it will be Protein Drinks galore.
I remember feeling like I would fail at this but here I am getting ready to celebrate 50 lbs after 3 months. I can clearly see how loosing another 50 by the end of this year is possible and I am getting EXCITED!
I bought my first 'regular size' clothing 2 weeks ago. A regular size large. Ahhhhhhhhhhhh that felt GREAT! I have not been able to fit into anything but plus size clothing for about 6 years so I was real fussy

Total lost 58kg, total loss since surgery 40kg ; still loosing, albeit slowing, but still going down everyweek which is the goal. Officially under 100kg now as well which was a huge milestone for me

This is my first progress set of photos. I am 7 weeks post op and down 41 lbs. People are now starting to really notice. The one in the surgery gown was taken the day after my gastric sleeve surgery and the one in the grey t-shirt was taken today. I can't even begin to describe how GREAT I feel with just 41 lbs off of me! So much energy, I can move around normally and I even mowed 1.5 acres of lawn. Just incredible since I could only stand for no more than 5 minutes just under 2 months ago

    This is so true
WLS is a tool not a magic wand. I have a friend that thought it was, she didn’t educate herself beforehand, she didn’t change her eating habits , she ate ahead of her schedule etc and she lost very little. Now a couple of years later she is bigger than when she went for surgery.
    Personal responsibility is very important.

Just short of a few days from 5 months since my VSG surgery. So far I have lost 55 lbs. To be honest with you I could have lost more than this by now but my commitment level to exercise and to eating what I should not has not been as it should. I am not ungrateful for loosing 55 lbs, dont get me wrong, but I know i have also eaten crap that if i did not do that I would be at a better weight loss bracket. You really have to be fully committed BEFORE you start this surgery and I only realize it now. I had some misconceptions about the surgery and thought that it would 'carry' me more without the level of personal responsibility and commitment it actually takes. I thought that my appetite would be next to nothing but immediately following the surgery I felt starving. My appetite never really waned but its true that you do fill up quickly - thank God for stomach restriction! I still cant eat most meats and I do not have 'meals' yet per se, I like Soups, but I do get calories in by things that are called slider foods. A cookie, some chocolate, some ice cream……..all no nos for weight loss. So while I have lost a lot of weight and look quite different already (2 people I ran into last week actually did not recognize me!) I am doing better in changing my eating habits still compared to what I used to. And my glucose levels are MUCH better but this TAKES WORK!
You experience weight loss plateaus,. At 4 months I reached a particular weight band and I have vacillated in the 5 lbs up and 5 lbs down range for 2 months now. Its SO FRUSTRATING! I am able to eat a lot more than before so around 4 months you have to really make an effort to restrict your calorie intake.
I brought WAY TOO MUCH stuff before surgery LOL I am a type A person and like to be very organized. I bought too much post surgery medication. I bought lots of bariatric surgery paraphernalia like food measuring devices and things that I have never used once. I did use the waist binder for 2 months and was glad I bought that but not even the GasX strips work. Seriously, I bought so many of them and they don't really work. What works is a nice HOT cup of tea! Gas comes right up. All this bloody GasX strips I have and wayyyyyyyyy too many antacids. I need the antacids but I bought TOO many. I only get acid reflux occasionally. Buy things AS you need them.
Don't by bra's in advance anticipating weight loss. Your boobs change shape and cup size. I made that mistake. I am no longer a DD but a D and I bought smaller back sizes at DD and now the cup is too big!

I do the Biotin and special Shampoo and conditioner for hair loss but...….its not stopping it. Started to use a comb instead of a brush hoping it would help stop pulling out the hair. Sigh......
I have been stuck at 53 lbs weight loss and it aint going any further. Now I have to 'work' for it...…...can't be lazy anymore

Hiya my friend I have not been progressing well with weight loss. Quite simply I have not been disciplined. I have hovered over gaining 5 lbs, loosing 6 lbs then gaining all within a particular bracket. As at today I have lost 48 lbs. Which is not a good report at almost going into 6 months.
SO today I went to the gym which my best friend bought me a one month membership. Things are very tight financially so I was glad for this gift. I worked out hard and I am going to use this one month to kick this weight loss up another notch.
Now that I can eat more, it requires more self discipline. The honeymoon is over just relying on severe stomach restriction will not get me into the next level. The lifestyle of making good choices to achieve weight loss is now a greater reality. I will not let all this money go to waste!

Nothing you do at this point is going to stop or help the hair that's falling out. That's because your body decided months ago that it was going to stop feeding that hair that's falling out now. The reason it's falling out now, is because new hair is pushing the old hair out. Google Telogen Effluvium. It's when something shocks your system (stress, surgery, stressful surgery, etc) and your body has Hair growth cycles, the surgery causes a much higher percentage of hair to go dormant than normal. So, when the "Grow" cycle starts up again, all of that "Rest" cycle hair, gets dumped. It's just a temporary change to your normal shedding cycle. Nothing you can do about it now except deal with it until everything grows back in properly.

Same here, it sucks....waiting for the baby hairs to get longer. I do take Biotin, folic acid, and put peppermint oil in my leave-in conditioner - it was in a study that said it stimulated growth as well as rogaine. Hey who knows.

I had to research this because I am a type II diabetic so I have also done all the research. I was a diet coke addict for SO many years. I also had developed insulin resistance on top of diabetes.
I came off of artificial sweeteners but I use Stevia now. Praying and hoping they don't come along with something negative about Stevia.

Well, I thank God that I have lost 50 lbs. I have gone down 3 pants sizes which makes me quite happy. I have just gotten back 4 pairs of pants from the tailor that were all taken in. I can do SO much more than what I used to be able to do at almost 300 lbs. I can mow the lawn, weed whack, I can stand up long periods, I can dance, I can bend down and tie shoes and wear enclosed shoes because my feet are not as swollen as they once were. I have far more energy and since my blood sugar is more under control I just feel a lot better in general.
So here is the be honest with yourself part. I could be farther along in this process if I were stricter with calorie intake and if I were exercising. I am not writing this so that I can receive lectures - I am choosing to be transparent and honest. I know I could be doing better. I have not lost weight in 3 weeks. I have gained upwards 3 lbs and then got it off but not gone past my last weight loss mark.
I have reached the stage where I think the honey moon is over and now I will need to work to keep that scale moving. I can also eat more than I could before. Thankfully I can now eat chicken and I seem to be able to tolerate an egg even though that still makes me feel sick. I find that I am not hungry during the day time but my hunger starts from around 6 pm onwards.
I am hoping that the weight I have lost so far will be the catalyst to help motivate me to further changes and incorporate some kind of exercise that I enjoy into my life and be consistent with it. I do have a treadmill in my bedroom - geez - I know. I am not motivated. I by the treadmill. I have found a class on Saturday afternoons that does a community African dance class for adults and I am seriously thinking of that. My only exercise right now is when I mow my 1.5 acre lawn with a push mower. Takes me 3 days and that burns tons of calories but that is only every 3 weeks.
In general I do not binge eat. In general I eat good, whole food. I get most of my Protein from meat now but I do still use Protein Powder. I do not always drink my liquid goal. Actually, I don't get it done most days. I will have dark chocolate, ice cream and some chips. In small amounts.
I am encouraged though. Encouraged that I can still make the adjustments going forward to reach to at least 100 lbs weight loss in a year. I will not quit. My main goal in this whole journey of VSG is to be able to come off of insulin because of weight loss and day to day controlling my diet.
I am at 250 lbs which is still very big. I'd be happy with 60 more lbs off. I will be so happy to make that post when that day comes.
I am off to my college reunion where I have not seen friends in 25 years! I am so much bigger than I was back then but grateful that they wont see me at 300 lbs! It will be the first time travelling since VSG so we shall see how the eating regime goes when I am overseas.

I'm struggling with motivation at 6 months out. So I do get it. But I will remind you--cuz otherwise why post the mea culpa bs? LOL. Fuc* transparency. We are not your confessors. So either: A) You want confirmation that your actions are not seriously screwin you and permission to go forward on this path that can only end in disappointment --in it's present derivation. OR B ) You actually want motivation and a kick in the hiney to get your sh*t back in gear.
So which is it? Otherwise, this post is just a ginormous waste of your time.
I know why I'm posting here again. I want to be held accountable. I want to borrow motivation from others until I can generate my own motivation. So I read here about all the wonderful losers and how they succeed. And I plot and plan.
What I'm doing to get the love back is making small changes:
    1. Making sure to get my 100+ oz of Fluid in each day (plain Water + 3 cups decaff)
    2. Kicking crap Snacks or just snacks and bites to the curb. I can literally "taste" myself past the point of eating back all my exercise calories. A bite here. A bite there. A lick here...one little chip. It all adds up quickly. And kill any sugar in there...
    3. Eating to my Protein goal and trying not to eat beyond it of lean very dense protein
    4. Eating to my low glycemic veggie and low glycemic berry goal: 1lb per day raw weight
    5. Taking my supplements as prescribed/religiously.
    6. Meeting my daily exercise goals: 1 hour minimum of walking daily--7 days per week unless sick or dying.
    7. sleeping 6+ hours per night.
    8. Destressing.

I still don't feel the first fire in my bellah that lets me be happy on 600cals per day. I CAN do it. It's just not easy now. It's hard. And I want to rationalize and talk myself out of it. And I'm stalled between 163 and 165. But I will do this. I WILL meet my minimum: 145lbs or less.
You can do this. You just have to remind yourself EVERY DAM* DAY! How much you wanted this and why you did it. You can't forget, if you do, you will squander your golden shot to do this.
