    Not sure it's working

So nice to know someone else is feeling what I am. Absolutely want to eat all the bad stuff. Like you, I too heard the words, you won't be hungry, the shakes will feel you up, yada, yada, yada. Not quite my experience. I do feel fuller after eating something from my meal plan, and I do struggle with finishing the meals I'm allowed, and then I feel hunger a couple of hours afterwards. I've come to the conclusion that the hunger afterwards, means it's time for another mini-meal or snack. The cravings are harder. But a friend of mine had a strategy she shared with me you could try. She said that those cravings are mental and that she would take a bite of the desired food to get the taste in her mouth, but not swallow it. She'd spit it out. I don't know that I would do this, spitting out food sounds gross to me. What I like to do is find a low fat, low carbohydrate substitute that taste the same. For example, I warm up some marina sauce and dip some low-fat mozzarella cheese in it. Kind of like pizza, not all the guilt. Instead of ketchup (high sugar) try salsa. It actually taste good. These are just some of the strategies I use. You will find your own path eventually. Good luck four days post-op, down four pounds.

    Scared I won't be successful

Scared! Oh yeah! I was so stressed during the pre-surgery diet I had a stressed induced hive outbreak! That's how scared I was! I am four day's post-op. And, I still have fears of failure. Do I want to cheat? Yeah. Especially on my first day home from the surgery my family is eating bacon, sausage, eggs and I'm drinking protein shakes. No fun. I've pulled myself through be reminding myself how long I have struggled with my weight. I remind myself and focus on my goals. There is no other way really to get through this. I don't regret this path and I know it will take time. Just relax and focus on the benefits. Good luck!
  3. Hi, You must be really worried. I am four days post-op and I will share some issue's I've had, this early in the journey. First, the two week liquid diet was too hard for me!! I felt like I was going crazy. I'll admit it, I cheated. Many here will frown, if not yell at me, for this but I was just too stressed out on the liquid diet. I even broke out with hives! So, I had a small 2oz helping of skinless chicken breast and this happened twice. Now, I'm four days out and I am still feeling like I want to cheat since I'm still on a two week liquid post-op diet. I lost 4 pounds during the pre- diet and four days post-op I have lost five pounds. You asked the question about exercise and weekends. The answer is yes. You should be walking every day. (Surgeon direction to me). Maybe try some other form of exercise? I was looking for low impact aerobic yoga and something called cardio-drumming. Youtube will have videos of these exercise routines so that could give you some ideas. Another suggestion, did you work with a dietitian before the surgery? If so, I would call them. If not, I would try to find one. I hope it helps! Good luck!

    Busting outta hospital

"I had bloods done before but they were thinking insulin resistance. Then my bloods went all over the place in hospital!" That's odd that they sent you home with insulin. Prior to my surgery I was pre-diabetic (insulin resistance). In the hospital, my sugar levels were all over the map. But, the hospital I was at, called the endocrinologist I have been seeing for two years. He decision was not only, no insulin, but I was to stop taking my Metformin. My levels will be checked at my PC's office and the post surgery follow up, two weeks post-op. I agree with the others here that you should follow your doctors advice and diet, and I think once your body get's used to this new diet your levles should calm down.

    H pylori positive?

Hi, like many people here, I did test positive. I did the round of antibiotics and the surgeon I was working with also had me scooped. The check required me to check in for a procedure, I was put under twilight sedation and a scope was inserted to check for ulcers. It all came back clear and I, on my own, started eating yogurt with probiotics afterwards. Above all, don't worry!

    Hives and itchy skin

Hi, I am four days post surgery, but two weeks before my procedure I had a break out on my left arm. It looked like hives, slightly itchy. I saw my PC and he wasn't sure if it was stress related or perhaps due to the introduction of Whey Protein. We agreed that the course of action was to cut back on the protein shakes and ten minutes of relaxation. It helped. It took a while to clear, but the itchy feeling melted away pretty quickly. I also added some cortisone cream, and I would apply it once or twice a day. Two days before my surgery, it disappeared. So, I would say, go see your PC and discuss any diet changes, and find some relaxation techniques. Oh, please talk to your PC first, because the whey protein is important and you will need to find a suitable alternative. Part of my surgical team work was meeting with a dietitian. You could also call them. Hope this helps! I was pretty upset because I was worried that it would delay my surgery. It didn't. Good luck!!
