  1. Hey Banders! I have Fibromyalgia and am concerned about the Lap Band surgery's effect on people who have that disease. Can anyone help me? I don't want to falsely get my hopes up that losing weight will relieve some of my symptoms. But, on the same hand - I am so very hopeful! Thanks!
  2. Hey Texas!... It's been almost 2 weeks since I was here. Just wanted to let you know that I have an appointment with my surgeon for the 17th of this month. We will set the date on that day!!! Yeah!!! I can't wait - Lap-band here I come!

Hope you are doing well. Look forward to hearing from you. God Bless!

Dear Karen, I've been worried about the pain of this surgery too, because of my fibro. and other issues. I'm sorry to hear you are suffering so much. When I had my gall bladder surgery it took me much longer to recover than the average patient. I did finally recover. Hopefully if you can bear this for another month at least - (it took me 2 months) I believe you will see a marked improvement. When were you diagnosed with fibro? Of course I'm not a Dr., but can tell you from experience that it is not unusual to suffer greater and longer than others from any invasive surgery due to our fibromyalgia. Have you ever heard of 'going by the signs'? I wonder if the day of your surgery was not a 'good' day for that procedure. I firmly believe lunar cycles play a great part in all nature, from growing crops to having surgeries. I hope you don't think I'm a nut.. lol. This is not something I usually discuss with people...hehe. I hope you feel better very soon. I will pray for your pain and recovery, that the Lord will ease your suffering. Melanie

I hope to be banded soon - all my preop testing will be complete by the 30th of May, so I'm not far behind you! God Bless You Both!
  6. Yes, I am a 'girl' quacker...hehe - so chica would fit! Can you tell me how many grams of protein do we need in one day on the liquid diet? I know you said use 2 scoops (52g) and 8 oz. water - is that 3Xper day? It just sounded like a lot. Also want to let you know that the surgeons office called me to set up pre-op testing!! WEEEE! I'm so looking forward to losing! Thanks so much for your support!

  7. OH, Just wanted to let you know, I received a surgery approval letter from my Insurance Co. today. They cc'd my surgeon, Dr. Woodman and I expect to call his office Monday. This is so exciting! :w00t:

I Just have to do the "happy dance"... :Dancing_biggrin:...lol.

  8. Hey Lady! Just saw your note re: protein. I got a wal-mart brand called Body Fortress Super Advanced Whey Protein. It has 52g protein per 2 scoops. I wasn't sure how many scoops we were supposed to use, so I started meal replacement with 1 scoop/8oz. water. This is just to help me lose a little more pre-op and get used to the liquid thing. I actually have lost 9 lbs. !! yeah! p.s. How's the ole' t.b.? Hope you are better.

Just a 'mini' celebration!! Hey Guys! I had to tell somebody of my HUGE accomplishment! Well, huge to me anyway. Yesterday was my seventh anniversary married to DH and the first time in 6 yrs that I weighed LESS than 300 lbs. Yesterday, I weighed myself at  299 lbs. I was so happy :tongue2: and  thanking God. I know there is a very long way ahead, but that seemed like such a big deal to me. Thanks for letting me share! Melanie

  17. Your marathon sounds like quite an accomplishment! I'm so sorry about your tailbone. Are you any better? Hopefully you'll be back up peddling like a 'texas fire' a.s.a.p.

Also, thank you for the info. re: liquid diet. I have another question... How many grams of protein are we supposed to drink in one day? The brand that I purchased seems very high in protein content.

Dear Angie (rainenroses), Thank you for the explaination of the RSD/CRPS. It sounds extremely painful and I am very sorry to hear that your case was initially mishandled. Did you attempt to gain any satifaction through legal recourse? That wouldn't be my first recommendation, but it certainly sounds as though you had plenty of reason to do so. On a lighter note, I was born in Indiana and lived there until I was 9. I loved it and still do. I used to live near Richmond, IN in a very small town called Lynn. Are you familiar with that area? It's nice to find people who can become a support system. I feel a great need to relate to others during this lap-band life transition who also struggle with pain/fibromyalgia. Sometimes we can pass coping mechanisms on to each other as we press toward our goals. I look forward to talking more as we journey! p.s. Thanks for the sites!

Thanks for the responses re: what type of Protein drinks everyone uses. That helped me locate what I was looking for - I think. I am laughing at myself :tt2: as I type this because its like feeling in the dark for your glasses!!! Now that I've purchased one - I have been afraid to drink it because I wasn't sure how many grams of Protein we were supposed to consume in a day. And, I also am wondering when I start drinking the supplement and am on a liquid diet, do I need to take less of my metformin? As a type 2 diabetic I thought I should ask about others experiences first. I hope to get started on this liquid diet soon! Thanks again for being so understanding and helpful!

Hi Rainenroses! I'm sorry to hear that you too live with pain. I'm also sorry to say that I don't know what Rsd/Crps. means. Would you elaborate please? And hang on to that hope - I think that may be half the battle.

I know EXACTLY what you mean Taz!... both my Dr's are female - incl. my OB/GYN and it was only when I found them that my condition was seriously treated. I am ashamed to say that I did find one female Dr. with the "yeah right" attitude and God complex , but one visit was all I gave her..hehe ... no wasting time there! My poor mother was ill just like yours for the last 20 yrs. and no one there to help her, its only been since I've been diagnosed that she was able to find some help. I thank God that Fibromyalgia is at last named and considered legitimate.
