  1. Dear Karen,

I've been worried about the pain of this surgery too, because of my fibro. and other issues. I'm sorry to hear you are suffering so much. When I had my gall bladder surgery it took me much longer to recover than the average patient. I did finally recover. Hopefully if you can bear this for another month at least - (it took me 2 months) I believe you will see a marked improvement. When were you diagnosed with fibro? Of course I'm not a Dr., but can tell you from experience that it is not unusual to suffer greater and longer than others from any invasive surgery due to our fibromyalgia.

Have you ever heard of 'going by the signs'? I wonder if the day of your surgery was not a 'good' day for that procedure. I firmly believe lunar cycles play a great part in all nature, from growing crops to having surgeries. I hope you don't think I'm a nut.. lol. This is not something I usually discuss with people...hehe.

I hope you feel better very soon. I will pray for your pain and recovery, that the Lord will ease your suffering. Melanie

  2. Hello All,

It's been a couple of weeks since I was last on-line. Catching up on all that's been going on was definitely worth it. I've seen so many praises and blessings that it would be difficult to name them all. Just a reminder of how wonderful is our God!

    Welcome to the newbies! -

    Congratulations to the banded! -

Blessings, hugs and prayers to the poor in spirit!

Lately I've been falling into the 'poor in spirit':huggie:category and would ask that you lift me to the Lord in your prayers. I do have some great news...

  5. Sorry I've been away for a few days. First, I just want SmilinApple to know I'm praying for her re: burning/pain on her lap band. Second, Diamond you are in my prayers re: you mother's health and your surgery date of 5/20. Next, Welcome! to Caelyn, Kvonbe and Numbrgirl and anyone else I may have missed!

I would like to ask for your prayers for myself. I've become very sick with sore throat, coughing til I'm sore and fever.

On the flip side, I have some great news!

  7. icon7.gifJust a 'mini' celebration!!

    Hey Guys!

I had to tell somebody of my HUGE accomplishment! Well, huge to me anyway. Yesterday was my seventh anniversary married to DH and the first time in 6 yrs that I weighed LESS than 300 lbs. Yesterday, I weighed myself at  299 lbs. I was so happy :tongue2: and  thanking God. I know there is a very long way ahead, but that seemed like such a big deal to me. Thanks for letting me share!

    Melanie

  9. Dear Angie (rainenroses),

Thank you for the explaination of the RSD/CRPS. It sounds extremely painful and I am very sorry to hear that your case was initially mishandled. Did you attempt to gain any satifaction through legal recourse? That wouldn't be my first recommendation, but it certainly sounds as though you had plenty of reason to do so.

On a lighter note, I was born in Indiana and lived there until I was 9. I loved it and still do. I used to live near Richmond, IN in a very small town called Lynn. Are you familiar with that area?

It's nice to find people who can become a support system. I feel a great need to relate to others during this lap-band life transition who also struggle with pain/fibromyalgia. Sometimes we can pass coping mechanisms on to each other as we press toward our goals.

I look forward to talking more as we journey!

    p.s. Thanks for the sites!

  10. Thanks for the responses re: what type of Protein drinks everyone uses. That helped me locate what I was looking for - I think. I am laughing at myself :tt2: as I type this because its like feeling in the dark for your glasses!!! Now that I've purchased one - I have been afraid to drink it  because I wasn't sure how many grams of Protein we were supposed to consume in a day. And, I also am wondering when I start drinking the supplement and am on a liquid diet, do I need to take less of my metformin? As a type 2 diabetic I thought I should ask about others experiences first. I hope to get started on this liquid diet soon!

Thanks again for being so understanding and helpful!

  11. hello. i dont have Fibro but i Do have Rsd/Crps. so i understand all about living with pain. i am also hoping the band /weight loss will help at least a little. any little bit helps a LOT .

Hi Rainenroses! I'm sorry to hear that you too live with pain. I'm also sorry to say that I don't know what Rsd/Crps. means. Would you elaborate please? And hang on to that hope - I think that may be half the battle.

  12. I was lucky that I chose a female doc first. I just feel more confident that they will listen. My ob/gyn is also female. My mom messed around for years with her male doc and her fibro. He kept telling her it was all in her head. Twenty years ago the docs didn't believe in fibro. That is why I am so glad there are more females now. I remember going to a male doc when I was 20. I asked him to explain about something and he told me not to worry about it. What was then called the "God complex". Tina

I know EXACTLY what you mean Taz!... both my Dr's are female - incl. my OB/GYN and it was only when I found them that my condition was seriously treated. I am ashamed to say that I did find one female Dr. with the "yeah right" attitude and God complex , but one visit was all I gave her..hehe ... no wasting time there!

My poor mother was ill just like yours for the last 20 yrs. and no one there to help her, its only been since I've been diagnosed that she was able to find some help. I thank God that Fibromyalgia is at last named and considered legitimate.

  13. Hi Sisters and Brothers!!!

    Brief Introduction

I'm a newbie from Cordova/Memphis, TN area and currently waiting on insurance approval for the band. My doctor is Dr. George Woodman here in Memphis. I am a born-again Christian and servant of the Lord Jesus Christ and THRILLED:hurray: to find this many believers on this site! I also am married to my God-sent soul mate and mother of my little miracle boy who is 3 yrs. old.

I am looking forward to supporting this thread and talking to you all! There is one question I have :) - would those of you who are banded please tell me what brand of Protein Drink you used pre-surgery and where you made the purchase?

God Bless and Keep You and Yours,

  14. Hi TLWick!

I saw your post and saw your Dr. was Woodman. He is also my Dr. and I am waiting for band surgery. I am from Cordova/Memphis, TN and a new member here. I would like to talk more with you sometime re: your surgery and experience with Woodman. I am hoping my approval/surgery goes as quick!

By the way, I've heard the same thing re: Woodmans' personality -lol! This could be a plus... maybe well be 'good little patients' if we're afraid of getting scolded!...(just kidding) hehe.

    Thank you so much!

  15. Hi Lana!

It took me forever to get a diagnosis and even longer to get a doctor who took me seriously and who would help me. I praise my doctor to all who want to know SHE is great!!!!! I think a lot of times, it takes a woman Dr. to take a woman seriously:thumbs_up:!!! I've been treated like a hypocondriach (not sure if that is spelled correctly or not..hehe) by several male doctors:thumbs_down:.

Question: You mentioned Protein Shakes, are you on those for pre-op weight loss or another reason?

Personally, I have found a high protein/low carb diet helps my fibro fog and minimally affects my pain levels. I think the crap  that is put into processed food is partially the cause of fibro. I'm not aware of any test that could identify any aspect of fibro or the causes.

  16. Hey Taz!

My (pain) meds are ; Lyrica - previously 3x/day, but I was in such a fog, everyday became a blur. I chose to reduce my Lyrica to 1x in the evening - so I can sleep - and the other symptoms have wained. My other pain med is Tramadol/Ultram. I take 1-81mg. aspirin/day and occasionally aleve.

I am looking forward to some relief with this surgery and weight loss!

  17. Hey Guys!

I just want to say I'm so thankful  to have found this site and all you supportive people . Hearing from you - all has encouraged AND is empowering me to stick to my guns. Also, it's great to find others with the same issues like chronic pain and obesity who are coming to the same decision - (the lap-band).

In addition, I have a couple of questions for those of you who are already banded.

How well were you maintaining your diet and faithfully

chewing and sipping PRE - Surgery?

    And, what did you do

    to help yourself be successful?

The reason I ask is, I don't seem to be doing very well:banghead:. I'll sip one drink - then forget on the next! The same may go with my meals - and at this point I'm still caving in on the chips when hubby brings them home.

    Still Trying!
