    Christian bandsters

Hi Sisters and Brothers!!! Brief Introduction I'm a newbie from Cordova/Memphis, TN area and currently waiting on insurance approval for the band. My doctor is Dr. George Woodman here in Memphis. I am a born-again Christian and servant of the Lord Jesus Christ and THRILLED:hurray: to find this many believers on this site! I also am married to my God-sent soul mate and mother of my little miracle boy who is 3 yrs. old. I am looking forward to supporting this thread and talking to you all! There is one question I have - would those of you who are banded please tell me what brand of protein drink you used pre-surgery and where you made the purchase? God Bless and Keep You and Yours,
  2. Hey Texas!

How did your MS150 for multiple sclerosis go? I hope there was a tremendous turn out! How long did you go before resting? Where did you sleep? Were you able to finish?

Can you also tell me what brand of liquid protein drink you used and where you made the purchase? I want to do a test run and press toward additional weight loss pre-surgery. Hope to hear from you soon! Thanks!

Hi TLWick! I saw your post and saw your Dr. was Woodman. He is also my Dr. and I am waiting for band surgery. I am from Cordova/Memphis, TN and a new member here. I would like to talk more with you sometime re: your surgery and experience with Woodman. I am hoping my approval/surgery goes as quick! By the way, I've heard the same thing re: Woodmans' personality -lol! This could be a plus... maybe well be 'good little patients' if we're afraid of getting scolded!...(just kidding) hehe. Thank you so much!

Hi Lana! It took me forever to get a diagnosis and even longer to get a doctor who took me seriously and who would help me. I praise my doctor to all who want to know SHE is great!!!!! I think a lot of times, it takes a woman Dr. to take a woman seriously:thumbs_up:!!! I've been treated like a hypocondriach (not sure if that is spelled correctly or not..hehe) by several male doctors:thumbs_down:. Question: You mentioned protein shakes, are you on those for pre-op weight loss or another reason? Personally, I have found a high protein/low carb diet helps my fibro fog and minimally affects my pain levels. I think the crap  that is put into processed food is partially the cause of fibro. I'm not aware of any test that could identify any aspect of fibro or the causes.

Hey Taz! My (pain) meds are ; Lyrica - previously 3x/day, but I was in such a fog, everyday became a blur. I chose to reduce my Lyrica to 1x in the evening - so I can sleep - and the other symptoms have wained. My other pain med is Tramadol/Ultram. I take 1-81mg. aspirin/day and occasionally aleve. I am looking forward to some relief with this surgery and weight loss!

Hey Guys! I just want to say I'm so thankful  to have found this site and all you supportive people . Hearing from you - all has encouraged AND is empowering me to stick to my guns. Also, it's great to find others with the same issues like chronic pain and obesity who are coming to the same decision - (the lap-band). In addition, I have a couple of questions for those of you who are already banded. How well were you maintaining your diet and faithfully chewing and sipping PRE - Surgery? And, what did you do to help yourself be successful? The reason I ask is, I don't seem to be doing very well:banghead:. I'll sip one drink - then forget on the next! The same may go with my meals - and at this point I'm still caving in on the chips when hubby brings them home. Still Trying!

Hopeful, thank you too for the information. I agree with you that bread and sugars make fibro worse. I'm sorry to hear that bread makes you sick - but in my case that might be a blessing in disguise since bread is a weakness for me. I have also heard several people say that bread was a problem for them as well, so you are not alone!

Thanks Lana for your comments. I hope your pain gets better. I've heard several people say that they are better after losing weight , so I'm still hoping! Fibro intensity is so variable - who knows, huh?

need to be band , before my wedding

I appreciate your dilema. In my opinion, I would absolutely get the band first - with no delay and also talk very honestly with your fiance about waiting. It's a health issue that is more than physical - also emotional and mental in becoming comfortable in your own skin. I also think ajoneen has a good idea - get the band/set the day for 1yr. post op and go for it!!! Love yourself sweetheart - we are all imperfect. I will remember you in my prayers. - Ducky
  14. All that energy! I'm jealous Texas! I think it's terrific that you wont need any surgery. If I can just walk again and not be so self concious - I will be blessed. You should be proud of your progress - it is not an easy journey. I think I fear failure more than anything. The way I feel now is that I'll never be able to do it. I believe I use food as an emotional crutch - I need to get that out of the way, huh? Congrats on the marathon - I'm impressed - for real!

  15. Hi Ddee!

I was looking at a thread and decided to check out your profile. May I ask what your second surgery was and why you had to have it? I am waiting for a surgery date and am looking forward to the lap band. I have heard some people have more than one surgery but haven't found any other information on it yet. I would appreciate any information you would be willing to share. If I'm being too inquisitive, :blushing: I apologize in advance. Looking forward to hearing from you whether you decide to 'share' or not. :-)

  16. Hi Molly!

I just wanted to thank you for your help. Everything seems to be working now. Drop me a line!

  17. Hi Texas,

Good to hear from you. Thanks for the compliment on my page. I did try to match my page to my 'duckiness' haha. Just wanted to let you know my final paperwork will be submitted to surgeon on Monday and then comes my wait for insurance approval. I can't imagine they would refuse me for any reason. I have several weight related health issues and a bmi of 59 [yuk].

I also looked at your page - very nice - and your photos were so good. How much excercise do you do per week? I hope to become more active very soon. I used to walk 4 mi. per day but not since the fibro/weight gain.

    Hang in there ! ;-)

Welcome Saqueen! and Congrats on your new band! How did you feel post - op and how long after were you able to start walking? I am looking forward to becoming more active, I used to walk about 4 mi. per day before my illness and weight gain. Also, I too have sleep apnea and can't tolerate the machine. I looked into other alternative treatments and none were acceptable to me, so I'm looking to the weightloss to resolve this issue (hopefully). Thanks for the 'good luck' and right back at 'cha! Any less pain with fibro is GREAT!

Hi Mom22! Glad to see you have started the journey! Is the 6 month wait going well for you? I also wanted to ask you another question. Do you remember how much weight they wanted you to lose pre-op? Thanks!

Thanks for the reply Long2B, I really do understand what your friend is going through. The first year of my marriage was when I became ill and was bedfast, like your friend, 90 % of the time...awful. It was then that I gained almost 100 lbs. I am so glad to hear that she reached her goal. It gives me hope and encouragment. Does she maintain any exercise plan? The fibro fog is what concerns me most. I have days when I fear I will forget what I'm supposed to do post op. I just pray the Lord will keep me and enable me to do what I must. Tell your friend - I will pray for her. God bless you both.

    Is anyone from TN.?

Hey Neighbors! I am from Memphis/Cordova TN. My surgeon is Dr. Woodman and I turn my final paperwork in tomorrow! Dr. Woodman's office told me it could be 2 wks to 12 wks before getting an approval from my insurance. Are any of you Dr. Woodman's patients? And, if so, do any of you know if he requires a specific weight loss before surgery? If so, how much and does he do the liquid pre-op diet like some surgeons? I worry that I haven't lost enough. My 6 month Dr. supervised diet only produced a 14 lb. loss for me. It's very exciting to see so many TN banders! I look forward to chatting and making new friends! Thanks! :hurt:

  23. Hi Texas! Thanks for the friendship request. I have uploaded a couple of older photos already on the computer if you want to see my baby. He's actually 3 now - so I'm behind on the photo thing.

p.s. You are doing great on your journey. It will be nice to have your friendship and encouragement.

Hey Memphis Lady!:tt2: Just saw your post and wanted to introduce myself. I am a fellow Memphian and also seeing Dr. Woodman. I am in the final stages of turning everything in to his office and waiting on a date. Were you able to find 'better deal' since you are a self-pay? I am very blessed that my insurance will cover this surgery although to my knowledge they cover no office visits, fill or post op general stuff. Where are you in the process now? Hope to keep in touch - since we're neighbors!!
