I called the surgeon on call yesterday (due to the holiday). It was not my surgeon. He mad it sound like it was no big deal just take some Benadryl. It maybe an allergic reaction to Pepcid. Call tomorrow if it still worries me and get in with my surgeon. I now have large itchy bumps at the top the steristrips on two of the incisions. I am headed to PCP, now. Thanks for your help

I’m only 5 days out of having the sleeve after having had the band removed. Pain after surgery and recovery have been much harder than the band. I’ve been really hungry and able to drink a lot of liquids. However compared to the band the immediate effects are more noticeable.

    Hi ladies,
The universe just gave me it’s highly polished F U. I am on my third day post op, and my body decided it would be a GREAT time to get my period. But not just any period. No, no of course not. It’s like the mother of all periods. Severe back pain, abdominal cramping, and super sore breasts.
Go me. This is greeeeeaasaaaaatttttt. Nothing like a period almost two weeks early to Celebrate your new beginning. It’s not like I didn’t just have all during my husband’s surgery just 2.5 weeks ago.
Anyone else hoping for early menopause?

Please call your time and leave a message for someone to get back to you. If you are not experiencing other symptoms, it may be nothing, but they need to be the ones to figure that out.

I had gastric bypass w/ gallbladder removal and hiatus hernia repair on June 19th, 2017. I will be traveling the next two weeks and won’t be able to post pics so I didn’t then today.
    Surgery weight 276
    Current weight 149

The moment I was able to get out of the hospital bed I started walking and literally haven’t stopped. I was able to start running about 3 months after surgery. I have gone more than 2 days without being active. I run about 30 miles a week and do Orangetheory. I took 6 pills a day for my reflux (had been on them since 8 years old), blood pressure and cholesterol medicine. I walked out of Tampa General and haven’t had to take one single pill. My blood pressure is very normal, resting HR is that of a runner and my cholesterol went from 320 to 149 in 4 months.
This was the absolute best thing I’ve ever done. I’m so thankful for this surgery.
Now I just need to save up money for lower body lift. The doctor said I have at least 10 pounds of skin to be removed!

I am finding that everyone is so different as far as how fast and how long. So many factors. How tall, how active, health problems, gender, age. I know there are people that just don’t make and others take it off and gain it back... and those that take it off and never gain it back... that is the group I want to be in. I don’t care if I take it off slowly I just want it gone... forget all the negative stuff and fight for your life. Surgery is the last resort for lots of us... so yes, we are fighting for our lives. I think we are all worth that fight!

Hi. I’m a 66 year old woman. My top weight on surgery day was 268, I’m now 4 months in and I’m down to 217. I’m not complaining about 51 pounds gone. I feel so much better. I had gastric bypass. I would do it all over again. Good luck

I’m feeling the same way too 5 days out. I feel I can eat a lot more food than I am meant to. I dream about cake. Don’t feel alone! I got no suggestions though but can definitely empathise!

Until you're certain that weight loss surgery is the right path for you, I would continue to diet...but delay your surgery until you've had a chance to discuss the issue with a therapist.
Weight loss surgery is a huge undertaking. It's life changing. And it's permanent. You need to be 100% committed to changing your diet and exercise habits. You need to be sure.
My personal feeling is that you might not be there yet.
If you're not? Keep soul searching until you are.
    Best wishes.

Hi, I’m scared as hell to share this but here I go. I’m very sensitive so please no nasty comments... I am scheduled for gastric bypass dec. 5th, my husband and I have two children already, I found out I was pregnant and am having a abortion. Nov. 11th. I’m afraid my hcg levels will not be 0 when I go in for surgery. And then not have the surgery. I’m afraid to tell my doctor but I think it is a must when I go in for my pre op with my PCP. Just in case when they do test my levels are still present. I’m very early 5weeks at most. I have not been on BC because of bloodclots with surgery so I have been watching my cycles and the last month I must have ovulated very late. Like 5 days before my missed period. This is not a easy choice but with my weight and to carry another baby would be dangerous and high risk. My husband is having a vasectomy soon. Has this happened to anyone?

I haven't told a single person (neither friends, nor family) and probably never will. I don't feel like being judged, and I don't want to feel like I need to justify my decision. I've been fat for 47 years (my mom put me on my first diet when I was 7) . I tried it the natural way...it has never ( permanently) worked for me.

I keep thinking of the same thing being told to someone with obstructive coronary artery disease...
"Did you do it on your own and correct your diet to avoid a heart attack? Or did you do it the easy way and have that pesky triple bypass they said you needed. That's not natural! You must have low self esteem!"

But anyway I am going to keep on keeping on until surgery and my new and improved life can start. Like you I don't know how long it will take to get down to my personal goal of weight but I am going to do it, Slim and trim I doubt but fitter and a smaller sitter, that I CAN ACHIEVE!😛👍

Hey everyone. I started around 310 (possibly, I always get the conversion of kg to lb mixed up) and I have lost around 35-40 lb already. Nearly 3 weeks post op.

Most people in my life have been totally supportive. Then there are the others lol... My best friend's first comment when I told her I was having the surgery was "God, now I'm going to be the fat one".

Well here it sets still. My biggest complaint with also being 320 and post'menopausal my metabolism is such I barely lose any weight with my exercise, whereas my younger sisters drop weight like a scared rabbit. Do you feel like life is not always fair?😕

So nice to know someone else is feeling what I am. Absolutely want to eat all the bad stuff. Like you, I too heard the words, you won't be hungry, the shakes will feel you up, yada, yada, yada. Not quite my experience. I do feel fuller after eating something from my meal plan, and I do struggle with finishing the meals I'm allowed, and then I feel hunger a couple of hours afterwards. I've come to the conclusion that the hunger afterwards, means it's time for another mini-meal or snack.
The cravings are harder. But a friend of mine had a strategy she shared with me you could try. She said that those cravings are mental and that she would take a bite of the desired food to get the taste in her mouth, but not swallow it. She'd spit it out. I don't know that I would do this, spitting out food sounds gross to me. What I like to do is find a low fat, low carbohydrate substitute that taste the same. For example, I warm up some marina sauce and dip some low-fat mozzarella cheese in it. Kind of like pizza, not all the guilt. Instead of ketchup (high sugar) try salsa. It actually taste good. These are just some of the strategies I use. You will find your own path eventually.
    Good luck
four days post-op, down four pounds.

    Because it is.
You cut out most of your stomach and you're eating starvation level calories.
Don't listen to the "head hunger" BS...when you're eating starvation levels of calories...you're hungry. Real hunger. Sally Struthers starving children in Africa hungry. Hungry. You're hungry because you physically can't and shouldn't yet eat the amount of calories your body requires.
In a few weeks when your stomach can handle more food...you will still be facing the same choices you always have. Ghrelin be damned. You will still be on a diet that will require thought, attention, and will power.
The good news....is that it gets better. Right after surgery, I could have eaten my leg off I was so hungry. After I was eating 1000-1200 calories around week three...I no longer felt like I was starving to death. I was much more comfortable, satisfied with much less, and found it pretty easy to stick to my calorie goals. Almost six months out....1200 calories a day still feels pretty satisfying. So that's an awesome change for the better.
Now..back to your statement "this feels like a starvation diet and nothing more at this point."
There are two ways to lose weight. Reduce input calories (Starve)....or.....Increase output calories (Exercise your arse off)
The surgery isn't magic. If changes your tummy, not your head. You will still have to work hard and diet. It's not a magic fix.
You will still be tempted. You will still crave old favorites. You will still get hungry. As time goes on and your tummy is healed and holds a little more...you will have to learn to resist temptation just like before.
The big advantage of this surgery....is that if you screw up and lose your mind and eat without thinking it through......you're more likely to screw up by 1000 calories, instead of 5000 calories in a day. It buys you some time to really look at your behavior so you can address it. It gives you some relief from the massive portions you'd worked up to needing to feel full. And rapid results will hopefully give you incentive to finally commit to better habits. That's the goal...changing how you mentally cope with food.
That's the reality. Work and diet. For the rest of your life. I'm sorry you were sold a steaming pile of BS. You're not alone.
But again...the good news...is that what the sleeve realistically does for you is a leg up on any previous diet efforts. You've got a real chance to change your habits. A LOT of people have tremendous success with the sleeve. Most folks will lose 60-70% of their excess body weight....which is a tremendous accomplishment and standard dieting efforts don't come close to those results.
Hang in there. It does get better.

This is my 8th day post gastric sleeve, and I just don't think I am having the intended results. Throughout my pre-op classes, I kept hearing that sleeve patients have a complete lack of hunger due to the loss of the part of the stomach that secretes ghrelin. I heard I would have no desire to eat and would have to force myself (with difficulty) to consume the required fluids, Protein, and calories. This is just not happening. I am HUNGRY all the time. I consume the small amounts of purees and Protein Drinks that my stomach will allow; I stop because I begin to feel pain, not because I am no longer hungry., Due to my pre-existing lactose intolerance and IBS, it all "goes through me" very quickly, and then I am HUNGRY again. I think about food ALL THE TIME. Even in the hospital, the morning after surgery, I woke up dreaming of pizza and Italian rainbow Cookies. The only thing preventing me from eating everything in sight is fear that I'll rupture my staple line or have a blockage. I really don't think the surgery is helping me as intended; this feels like a starvation diet and nothing more at this point. Has this happened to anyone else? Does it get better? PLEASE HELP! THANKS!
