AS above, a food log is good. I use MyFitnessPal on my phone and I like being able to see how I"m tracking through the day with overall calories and particularly Protein, so I can make sure I'm getting enough protein in by the end of the day. Water intake tracking is really good too.

On 24 May I'll be getting a gastric sleeve. I work a crazy day job sitting behind a desk for hours on end, rushing from one meeting to the next and eat all kinds of junk whenever I can. I have some serious anxiety/emotional eating issues that I am working through with a psychotherapist. I've booked in for weekly visits post op with the nurse at my GPs clinic so trying to stay accountable.
Any other tips on staying accountable with weight loss?
Anyone else an emotional eater that may have some advice for me?

    Hi!
I can relate - I have (had?) PCOS and insulin resistance - am 6 months post op (last week) and have lost 25kgs (55lbs). I hit my surgeon's goal weight right on the 6 month anniversary, which was a nice surprise. I've found weightloss to be incredibly slow and have stalled more times than I can count within that 6 months, but the scale always eventually moved. I do believe this is due to the PCOS and IR, and I also believe without surgery I would still be plugging away at the gym and eating well but not seeing the scale move - so frustrating. I'm happy to accept the slow loser card

Same here. That's how I ended up in the drive through, because I didn't have any healthy quick options available. Now I make sure I do.

Great tips on here already. I would just add keep plenty of tasty healthy treats on hand, both savory and sweet. When you're tempted you can grab one of these instead of an unhealthy choice.

So last week I had to have an imaging test done. The tech had to line up the machine where it needed to be over my abdomen, usually they feel to see where your ribs and hip bones are for landmarks. She walked over to me saying "I need to press on you a bit to line this up", then she looked and said, "Oh, never mind, you're so skinny I can see where it needs to go." And I was wearing jeans and a thin t-shirt! She had no idea how strange that was for me, I still can't believe I was referred to as being skinny!

This week, my kid took off running across the park area near his after school care... and I ran after him and caught him. He was as delighted as I was. I don't think he had ever seen me run.

I parked in a tight parking space and was still able to squeeze out of my door, without touching the car next to me. In the past I would not have been able to get out of my car.

I had surgery on 11/29 and I’m trying to not focus too much on the numbers on the scale or on my clothes.
My non scale victories since 11/29
Had to have a spacer put on my wedding ring
    I’m wearing a coat I haven’t worn in 2 yrs
I got rid of my pre-surgery work uniforms
I’ve cleaned my closet twice already
What are your non scale victories?!

Ouch, sorry to hear that. What form of laxative did you try before that didn't work for you? Are your poops still very hard? You may need more of a stool softener rather than a laxative (the coloxyl with senna tablets I got and have used a couple of times are a combination of both softener and laxative).
Also look into getting a "squatty potty" to assist with a more comfortable/natural positioning of your legs while pooping?

I have found that keeping a food log that you actually fill out through out the day keeps you honest. At first your stomach will likely keep you honest on its own but I found that seeing it written down added just enough of a guilty feeling to stay on track.
Of course I also found that keeping such a log was a great big chore and the minute I stopped logging my foods I started eating poorly....yo yo... Now that I have finally joined the 21st century and got me a smart phone it will be easier to do than carrying a big sheet of paper around.

It sounds like you've got the right approach. Are you going to continue to see the psychtherapist for a while after surgery? I would. Best of luck on your procedure!

SydneySleever reacted to anonymom26 in 1 year surgiversary and reached my goal!
I know some people here have enjoyed seeing my progress, so I wanted to do another update. I recently had my 1 year surgery anniversary from my gastric bypass. I have also reached goal and am no longer losing weight, so I figured now was a good time!
I am so happy I had my bypass. I am running, hiking, and doing all the physical things that I was limited in before. I eat well and don't feel any loss or limitation emotionally. I have added carbs back in now that I am at goal, and have maintained well (even lost a little) over the past 5 months since hitting goal and going off Keto.
I had my 1 year follow up with my doctor, and he congratulated me for losing 100% excess weight and for doing it in less than a year!

Raptly reading this all, I won't be a sleeve but many of these things could be me in the future. Your biggest forest scar is where they pulled your stomach remnant out, I would not be exempt because in. bypass the same place is where surgeon puts his bigger gauge instruments.,I guess you'd have to have an endoscopic sleeve to avoid, this, but I guess they have their own cast of problems. No free rides in Bariatrics, are there?😓

SydneySleever reacted to Michelle_Lynn in Almost 6 months post VSG (pics)
I had VSG on 11/30/17 and I feel AMAZING! I've lost 105lbs so far. I was 343lbs on the day of surgery and 238lbs at the moment.
The surgery has been an incredible tool. I'm at the gym every day, I mean prep and stay away from carbs/sugar. The liquid diet after surgery puts your body in ketosis and I stuck with it when I moved to regular foods. I stay under 20g of carbs per day, 50g if I'm carb cycling (complex carbs only) and I try to get around 1200 calories in - some days it's a struggle to hit 1200 because I don't feel hungry and/or I'm satisfied by a few bites.
I'm halfway to my goal and getting closer to one-derland!

I think most of us have been emotional eaters! I had my surgery on April 25 and work in an office where, almost everyday, someone brings in doughnuts, Cookies, pastries, pies, etc. Before surgery, I was the first one to partake. Now, I can go in there and not have anything. I changed my mindset...food is no longer my "comfort". I worked with my psychologist and after the weight started dropping off, I'm determined not to put it back on.
