  1. Ouch UTI are not fun. I hope they gave you antibiotics that you can take.

I assume you are taking your supplements? On a different thread here, someone had a B12 shot and it helped with the lack of energy. Two weeks post op, is not long for your body to recover.

Before you add carbs, Check with your team and stick with your plan.

Smoked for 2 months regularly. Have my last appointment with the surgeon coming up on May 29th with some lab work that I know I’ll be having but unsure what it’ll be. I’m guessing there’s going to be a nicotine/continine test. Quit cold turkey on the 20th. What do you guys think are my chances of it being negative?? I’m starting to freak out a lot and I don’t want to screw up this opportunity that’s such a big deal. Any opinions??

How did you go with your tests? I have zero knowledge on how they test for nicotine, but am hoping you passed your tests and have joined the non smokers bench. Giving up cigarettes has been brutal on top of the preop diet.

  3. I have a cruise booked for 13 August. I’m planning on avoiding the buffet and eating at the restaurant instead. On my last cruise I gained 1kg using this strategy. This time around I plan on doing the morning yoga too.

I.m thinking of packing my scales to keep me on track, do you think this is a good idea?

My bruising was in two areas and both looked worse than the original posters, but I did have hernia repair at the same time and my surgeon also said he had to pull some fat from my stomach walls, so I would expect bruising.

Do you know what your surgeon meant by “pull some fat from the walls”? If this is too personal, my apologies and please ignore my question.

  5. I’m so excited for tomorrow!! One more sleep and then I’ll be on the other side. Im nervous and having doubts/concerns, but thanks to this forum I know that’s normal. This group has been a font of knowledge and support. I’m looking forward to us continuing to support each other as we all walk (and maybe jog one day) to all of our goals.

  6. It’s ok, this is hard. It’s important to be kind to yourself and try to understand why you eat what you eat. The more you understand and learn the more likely you are to succeed

So I'm interested in opinions from you all. I have my last nutrition class this Friday. This is the class where the go into detail about how to eat post-surgery, why it's so important to eat that way, and why its crucial to maintain a proper diet and exercise for life.

My nutritionist suggested that my husband come along because I told her that he is one of my biggest obstacles. He eats like a teenage boy, doesn't care about being healthy, and cares even less about exercising. She felt it would be beneficial for him to hear what is being discussed in the meeting. I absolutely agree with her.

He was actually on board to attend but now can't get the time off from work. I already have all the materials and I've talked to him some about my diet, but he hasn't done nearly the research I have. I do find information is more impactful when it comes from multiple sources so I'm bummed he can't attend.

What do you guys think I should do? Since I have plenty of time before my surgery, I was thinking about calling the center and asking if there is another session coming up that maybe would work better. I definitely want to attend the one tomorrow, but if we could both go again later on that would be best.

I'm really stressing over this because we watch My 600Lb Life and he yells at all the enablers on the show and talks a big game about what they should and shouldn't be doing. But I know him, and I know that when its our turn to be in that situation, he's going to see just how hard it really is to support me the way I need it. lol

I think going to a future appointment with your husband is a great idea. I think it’s a great way to include him. I think I’ll start doing the same thing with my husband

  8. Hang in there strawberry, and take each day as it comes. If in another 2 weeks you are not ready to go back to work take some extra time. Going back to a stressful job is no fun when you are not feeling yourself or can use your normal coping mechanisms, ie your bath.

For now focus on healing, not returning to work in 2 weeks. I’m still preop so can’t offer any advice re the hunger, I wish you a speedy resolution xx

  9. I’m not telling anyone at work. I’m only sharing this experience with my husband. I’ve chosen to keep it private as it is one of those things everyone likes to give their opinions on, whether you asked or not lols. It’s hard enough without helpful friends/coworkers giving their advice.

    Hi Everyone!

I am new around here. I have been lurking for months but this is my first post. I am scheduled for bypass surgery on June 4th! I am so excited. I was hoping to get a surgery date buddy to go through this process with for support. I'm 37 years old with 3 kids. I have yo-yo dieted my entire life and am looking to get things under control. My BMI is around 38 but I have a co-morbidity of sleep apnea so I was able to be approved. I am looking forward to meeting people to share this journey with!

Thank you Ylime for making the spreadsheet. That was so sweet and helpful.

There are a few of us scheduled for June 4 so you’ve come to the right place. I’m 46, yo yo dieter for the past 10 years. I never had a weight problem until I was 30, and switched to a desk job. Then all my unhealthy eating patterns came home to roost. With this, I’m learning to eat better and reset my bad habits

Thank you for the kind words. I still struggle bc I felt like such a ding-dong after posting Picts. Still so insecure about having people purposely look at me. But thank you for being so sweet. Yeah, the social anxiety piece was the main driver. It was no way to live!

Thank you for the photos, you look wonderful and very happy. You mentioned you had Hair loss, how long did it last?

This is a very touchy subject. One that I’m even ashamed to be saying. Last night I found out I’m 4 weeks and 5 days pregnancy. I’m scheduled for surgery in 19 days. I already have 2 kids, and I’m a single mom. I’m doing the surgery because I need to be healthy. I have prior health issues and my last pregnancy took a toll on my body. It caused more health issues than anything. I’m scheduled to have an abortion on Tuesday. The doctor said that I could still have surgery since it’s a little over 2 weeks away. My friends surgeon said that you need to wait at least 3 months. And I read somewhere else that you should wait 6 weeks. What do you guys think? This is already the second time I rescheduled the surgery and I already bought the plane tickets to go and get it done. It’s a few states away. Any insight would help!

Sending you hugs & love as you walk down this path, be kind and generous with yourself.

It’s not clear from your post if you spoke with your friends surgeon or if they spoke on your behalf. If your treating doctors are saying all is ok to go ahead and you are ready I’d say go for it. If you need more time, then wait.

My surgery date isn’t until July 10th but, since I have somewhat of a sweet tooth, I thought I’d completely cut sugar out now. Any tips for stopping cold turkey?

I’m a pretty healthy eater for the most part but I really do enjoy chocolate.

I’m not sure why it works but if I have a craving for something sweet I find a little pickled ginger satisfies it.

Hey there! I just had my sleeve surgery on Monday. Physically I’m doing really well... I’ve dropped 15 lbs already. I’m being active but not over doing it. My main issue is the fact that I WANT to eat. I tend to get mad that I can’t eat... anyone else having these issues? I need a buddy and support... my family is great but they don’t fully understand since they haven’t gone threw it. Any takers?

I’m not there yet, 1 week to go. I’d love to talk with you about this as I worry I’ll be the same.

I'm 7 weeks post-op and can't seem to get to solid food. Still on shakes and sometimes can't get more than one shake down. That's only 25 grams Protein. Everytime I try a food (pureed) it hurts my pouch. Is this normal?

From what I’ve been reading everyone is different. I’d call your team and check in with your doctor for peace of mind and to make sure everything is ok.

  17. I am planning on going back after 2 weeks. My surgeon has told me I’ll spend 5 days in hospital and then go home. I’ll see how I feel at the end of the 2 weeks. I can either return to work, work from home or take another week off. I’m lucky I have a flexible work place and a job that can be done from home.
