I'm on day 5 of the pre op diet, and some days are easier than others. Yes, I think more Fluid helps, and also sugar free popsicles and sugar free Jello. Im also allowed low carb Protein Shakes. I'm hungry all the time, too! We will persevere!

I don't know about the sodium, but i can't eat chicken, or regular food until 7 weeks post surgery. I think i can have ground up chicken earlier, though. Ask your team.

So at the tender young age of 30, you’ve probably not had to deal with many of the very unpleasant, inconvenient and downright awful side effects from prolonged obesity.
I first became obese when I was 28. By the time I was 40, I was diagnosed with TNBC (triple negative breast cancer). By the time I was almost 50, I was pre-diabetic, was getting high cholesterol, and had had 2 more cancer scares. My GERD was becoming more uncontrollable.
Working a 12 hour shift was becoming so painful that I was taking massive doses of NSAIDS and resting in bed whenever I could get a chance because my whole body hurt. Oh yeah, did I mention the thousands of dollars spent on the 2 cancer scares?

2018 was the year I decided enough was enough and I started the process. Took me from June 2018 through Feb 6, 2019 to get my surgery, but even though I’m only 6 weeks post, I’d still do it all over again—- even the 2 hell weeks immediately post-op when you’re desperately trying to figure out how your new digestive system wants to work.

Even at just 30 pounds lighter, I feel like a brand new woman.
Yeah, there are moments where I’d love to have my old stomach back for just 5 minutes, but then I think of how great it feels and how much better it will feel when the next 70 pounds come off that the food just simply isn’t that important anymore.

I’m convinced that someday I’ll be able to order off of a restaurant menu, but in the meantime I’m going to enjoy every step of this process and know that I’m giving myself the best chance ever of thriving in my 50’s that I couldn’t do in my 30’s or 40’s.

Just omit whatever information you don't want to share. Some people I'm open with and when others mention my weight loss, I just tell them I am seeing a nutritionist and am on a diet provided by her because my health was headed in the wrong direction and it was time to do something about it. You don't have to lie to people, you just need to be the one that chooses how much information you want to put out there.

Check with your program to see if you can do creamed Soups on this diet. I can't. You don't want to mess up the liver shrinking!

Maybe you should tell your concerns to your team. I think once you are approved for surgery at a certain BMI it doesn't matter if you drop below. The liver needs to be nice and healthy. Not fatty for the surgeon's ease in doing the surgery. I would do the diet as long as your doctor told you to.

Briswife15 got a reaction from Shanda_2019 in Psych Evaluation
I was honest. I have Bipolar disorder and a history of eating disorders including anorexia and bulimia. I also didn't have a great childhood. My psych eval wasn't that bad, and although I was honest, the psychiatrist recommended me for bariatric surgery. I have supports in place, and am medically stable. Best wishes to you! It will be fine!

That's quite different from telling a lie when asked about what you did to lose weight and I don't know why so many users on here react in the same way you just did. Nobody suggests that you wear a sign around your neck stating you had WLS and I have no idea why so many users jump to the conclusion that anyone who doesn't lie about WLS is actually suggesting "telling everyone" and get quite defensive about this issue.
The way I see it is that people will be gossiping about your weight loss anyway. Do you really and honestly believe anyone buys this "Oh, I just exercise and eat healthy" schlock? Especially when people know your for years and witnessed your past weight loss attempts?
If someone suddenly loses e. g. 100 lbs of weight and eats very little I'd suspect two things:
    1) the person is very sick
    2) the person had WLS
with 2) being more likely when the person is actually behaving like usual. If that person runs around telling everyone who wants to know how he/she did it that it's just exercise and "eating healthy" I'd think to myself "Yeah, right... tell some more fairy tales".
I personally wouldn't confront a person with weight loss (unless we're quite close and the person seems to be generally open about the topic), asking how he/she did it because I think it's not my business and I personally prefer not to be asked about weight loss but when I'm asked, I don't lie.

Im with summerset ... i don’t get why so many people fee the need to lie about having surgery. Who cares if you hd surgery to lose weight? It makes me think that part if the stigma is self imposed. If we treat surgery like it is taboo or worth hiding then isnt it always going to continue being thought of by others that way?

I was in a very similar situation and my dietician sent me this checklist:
o How often are you weighing yourself? Try not to weight yourself more than 1-2x week. Stress from seeing the number and being frustrated can actually stall our weight loss as well.
o Are you consuming liquid calories? juice, smoothies (not Protein shakes), alcohol, etc. can add empty calories and provide little satiation. Instead, opt for water!
o How are your food choices? Poor food choice may result in increased calorie intake. Try minimizing high-fat protein sources such as cheese and Peanut Butter.
o Are you consuming enough protein? Aim for 70+ grams per day.
o Are you drinking enough Water? Aim for 64 oz. per day.
o Are you getting enough sleep? Aim for 6-8 hours of sleep per night to reduce stress hormones causing sugar cravings and increased fat storage.
o Are you walking? Until cleared by the medical team daily walking and staying with light activity is recommended and encouraged.
I had been following most of these, but I was weighing myself everyday, only getting in about 60g of protein, and maybe 48oz of water. I changed all of those things and in one week I dropped 5lbs. If there is anything on this list you aren't doing or having trouble with, then I'd start there. Good luck!
